Shark Ion F80 Really Sucks! But in a good way!

I have used a bunch of different cordless vacuums and frankly none of them lasted very long and none were good enough to replace our normal vacuum.
The Shark ION F80 is in a class all by itself. Powerful suction, great brush in the "head" and very versatile - you can use it like a hand held vacuum or like a more traditional vacuum and it will do a great job on carpets and hardwoods or tile floors.
Another thing - the battery it runs on lasts forever and there is a backup battery if you are going to vacuum all day - although, as easy as this is to use, I have been able to get my floors vacuumed, even vacuuming easily under tables and chairs without having to move the furniture. So it has saved me time as well.
A great Vaccum - cordless - and very easy to use - very easy to empty when the collection thing (whatever it is called) is full.
I bought My Shark ION F80 Cord Free Multi Flex Vacuum because of the high rankings on Consumer Reports and I am very satisfied with my purchase.

This vacuum does everything we expected. It does a terrific job cleaning up the large amount of dog hair constantly deposited on our hardwood and tile floors in between visits from our housekeeper. The canister is very easy to empty. Also, having two batteries really extends the run time when doing three floors! We're very pleased with the purchase!

We have had several versions of the cordless vacuum. All only make it about 3 years before the battery go bad. Prices range from $200 to $700 dollars. We are happy with the performance of this lower cost equivalent. Does a very good job of cleaning our carpets and floors. Comes with a second rechargeable battery.

Based on my previous cordless vacs, Oreck, I am not happy with this Shark at all. Years ago, when Shark rolled out 1 of their 1st cordless vacs, I bought it. Took it home & out of the box only to read it only works pushing forward, not backward. I wonder if this model has the same restriction. I have a German Shepherd. The filters get full of dust & hair very quickly negating the job they are supposed to do. The capacity of the container is good but hard to open as I have arthritis in my fingers. On my tile, wood & brick floors it does a good job picking up everything. The felt roller pad grabs dust/dirt & all dog hair is gobbled up, but the brush roller has the dog hair wrapped around it tightly. Again, that hurts my fingers & takes time. It seems that when I bump a wall or under a cabinet, the roller shuts off for 20-30 seconds before starting again. IT WILL NOT WORK ON BATHROOM OR THROW RUGS. It sucks them up negating a much-needed job throughout the week & I'm glad I have my old cordless vac for that. The batteries do last a very long time. I have not had to use the 2nd battery on my 2,100 sq ft house, not including the 3 rooms with carpet. On the 2 rooms with carpet, I recently used my full vac on, it did a fair job. On the 1 room with carpet, I had not recently used the full vac, the whole thing clogged with dog hair. The stick all the way to the container. That was an ordeal to clean out for my husband, so do not expect to use this Shark on carpet unless you use a full vac often. I do not like the fold over/down feature. I find it awkward & it will roll & fall if you do not fold it down. I do like the swiveling head with the lights to see under tables or chairs. I do not fold it, as shown in the photos, to go under things because it can just be laid flat enough not to use that feature. To use the handheld feature, it is difficult to pull off and is very heavy. I used it to try & vac lampshades & was heavy but did a good job. Shark needs to have housewives, older people & those with arthritis to design their next model. I would not recommend this model to most people for the price. I would buy a Dyson. My husband bought me this vac, even though I told him 1/2 a dozen times to not buy me a cordless vac without me looking at it. I do not consider spending $400 a light decision on anything. I still fuss at him every time I use it :)

I love the battery life and that the vacuum comes with two batteries. I previously had a Dyson and ergonomically the Dyson was more comfortable to use and fit into smaller spaces. I am 5' 6" and I feel the tube is too long. Would be great if it was adjustable.

Purchased this a few weeks ago to replace (under Geek Squad Warranty) a Shark IONFlex DuoClean IF201 that we loved but broke on us. The extra battery is great but this new model does not have nearly the suction and power that the older model had. We have to run on boost mode to get even close to the power of the other model running on normal mode.
I see other reviews talking about great power so wondering if we just ended up with a lemon unit somehow?

The Shark ION MultiFLEX F80 (IF281) is Shark’s latest entry into the handheld cordless stick vacuum market. As an owner of an older cordless stick vacuum by Dyson I was interested in how this compared and if it could match or exceed the performance of the other vacuum.
Opening the box was a bit of a mixed bag – on one hand, there are the two included Li-Ion batteries for the vacuum, which is vey nice when vacuuming a large area. Shark claims the two batteries can power the vacuum for 80 minutes…..but that is using the hand vac and not the power head. Expect around 20 minutes of run time per battery with the power head on and using the boost mode occasionally for stubborn debris. The batteries have a handy 3 bar power gauge in them so you know how much charge is left. On the other hand, outside of the power head, the included accessories leave a lot to be desired. The “charging dock” is just a pass thru for the included AC adapter and not a separate charging point, which means you can only charge one of the two batteries at a time. The crevice tool is ok, and there is an upholstery brush that has some lint brush type short bristles. Missing from this kit is any kind of crevice tool with a soft bristle brush (great for cars and leather seats), or a power head for the hand vac mode for cleaning stairs and furniture. My other stick vac came with both, and at this price point I expected a little more from this kit.
A couple of other feature notes – the power head has a lot of rollers in it, and even headlights! The trade off is that for a stick vac it is very large. You might find that it can’t fit into smaller corners like others in the market can. The size of the head also somewhat limits the other cool feature of this vacuum, the flex option. With the press of a button, the stick releases in the middle and lets it bend to go flat under furniture and other hard to reach places. I found it useful to get under things like an entertainment center, but the head was a little tall to get under a couch and low chairs. If you fold the flexible part all the way over it will lock and the entire unit will be free standing, which is extremely convenient and very clever.
I do really like that this has a push on and off button instead of the trigger that has to be held down like my other vac, and has two modes for carpet or for bare floors.
So, how does it perform? I found suction and cleaning to be pretty good, and it could pick up larger debris more reliably than my older stick vac. It is also VERY quiet compared to the other stick vac. One big difference is that the shark seems to be using a lower RPM motor with a larger surface area impeller instead of the ultra high speed impeller that Dyson uses to force air through their root cyclone system. The result is that more air moves, but at a slower velocity, than the Dyson stick vacs. This makes it much quieter with suction that feels about the same. Since this vac does not have the dust separating power of Dyson’s cyclones, it uses progressive filtering to clean the air before it leaves the vac. Air enters the bin area, where larger particles are separated, before being pulled through a screen filter, then into a foam filter, and finally through a final filter at the exhaust. The foam and final fine filter need to be cleaned regularly (recommendation is monthly) with clean water. I found that pet hair often finds its way wrapped around the screen filter and needs to be pulled off manually when the bin is cleaned, which is pretty frequently as the bin is not huge. Since the motor unit has to be separated from the stick and power head to empty, it is handy that the power head is free standing.
Overall, this is a very capable cordless stick vac that has some advantages over the competition in terms of run time, power head performance, noise, and flexibility. The vacuum system itself is more traditional, with two filters that will need regular cleaning, vs the advanced system found in Dysons. Finally, the lack of a couple of essential accessories at this price point make the overall value of the vacuum feel a little less than perfect.

Excellent vacuum for hardwoods, tile and short carpets, but not enough power for for the thicker rugs. Love the cordless! We have a 1500 sq ft home and can do the whole house on one battery!

It works well on hard floors and has a button to boost the suction if you miss something that was missed on the first pass. There might be better ones for 2 or 3 times the cost.
