It's a nice design, good suction, however I primarily purchases this for my laminate wood flooring and when you turn it on for the bare floor mode only, the carpet roller is still spinning???? I've seen this called out on other models too and well, my question to Shark is.... WHY WOULD YOU WANT US TO SCRACTCH OUR WOOD FLOORS? It indeed does leave minor surface scratches, which is why I returned mine within a week!!!

A great cordless Shark vacuum

The Shark ION F80 Vacuum (Model IF281) is the newest addition to our house. It’s like our older Shark corded vacuum, with only one-pound difference between the two. Weight could have been a problem for cleaning overhead items like lamps and fans. I figured the battery would have added bulk and weight, but that wasn’t the case.
Upon receipt of the F80, I immediately located the two battery packs to give them both a fresh charge. I’m not sure how I feel about this, but you only get one charger and one charging dock with the F80. Since the charging dock is only capable of charging one battery at a time, and since it takes about 80-90 minutes to charge one battery, it took close to 3 hours to fully charge both batteries. It is possible to have one battery loaded into the vacuum and one battery in the Dock, but with only one charger it’s only possible to charge one battery at a time. Additional chargers are available on the Shark website, but for as expensive as this vacuum is, a second charger would have been a welcome addition.
Okay, now that I’m past the battery issue, I can honestly say that this is a nice vacuum. The Head-Unit is nicely weighted even with the battery installed. It has settings for carpet and floors, as well as two settings for power. What they call ION Power is the standard setting for everyday use. It seems more than capable of meeting 99% of our needs, although the Boost mode is handy if we need it. Boost substantially increases the suction by what seems to be a magnitude. By design, the Head-Unit will only stay on ION Boost for 60 seconds unless you press and hold the ION Boost button continuously. I wouldn’t recommend doing so because the drain on the battery is substantial.
Shark provided a runtime chart that shows the impact of ION Boost on how long a single battery will last. For example, in Handvac-only mode one battery will last up to 40 minutes using ION Power. In ION Boost mode, the battery will last up to 12 minutes. When vacuuming a carpet, the battery will last up to 26 minutes using ION Power and then drop down to a maximum of 10 minutes using ION Boost.
I don’t know about other competing products, but the F80 is nicely thought out. For example, emptying out the DustCup was simple to accomplish. The same goes for cleaning the filters, the Brushroll and the Soft Roller. I was very surprised by how well the F80 cleaned after, I thought, thoroughly cleaning an area with our old vacuum.
When cleaning the filters, for which there are two in the Head-Unit, all you need is clean water - no special products are needed. Shark does they recommend 24 hours of drying time.
Getting under beds and other furniture is easily accomplished with the MultiFlex wand. Just press a button and the wand bends allowing the floor nozzle (the unit at the end of the wand that does the actual vacuuming) and a good portion of the wand to lay flat against the floor. As a back sufferer, this is infinitely easier than bending or kneeling to vacuum under objects. Plus, when fully bent it allows the F80 to collapse in half to reduce storage requirements after use.
Returning to the batteries, there are 3 LED lights on the side of each one. These lights are indicators to how much battery power is left in the battery when being used, and when charging, indicate the progress of the charging effort. If the top 2 or bottom 2 lights are flashing during charging, something is amiss and you need to call customer service for support. Again, well thought out.
I recommend keeping the box the F80 came in, in case you need to ship the unit back to Shark for warranty work. The F80 comes with a 5-year limited warranty, while the batteries have a 2-year limited warranty.

I like this vac. It picks up well from our hardwood floors and low pile carpet. Easy to maneuver and use. I did have to go over the upholstery on my couch multiple times to get the pet hair off and it still didn’t get it all off. But still happy with the product overall.

Loved this vacuum until the neck (folding piece) broke about a year later. Did have a lot of areas that were hard to clean and sometimes things got stuck in the shaft that needed to be poked out with a stick.

The unit works great but the battery does not last as long as stated, I can only get about 25 hours before it starts to slow down, but it charges quickly. It is easy to unload dirt and the adjustable arm is great for getting under things .

Works great on hard floors. My carpet is older so the Canister size limits the amount of carpet that can be done. Does work well on small areas of carpet

I can vacuum my whole house on one battery charge. The Shark
has plenty of suction and cleans well. My only criticism is I wish it came with a round brush attachment. This vacuum exceeds my expectations. Great buy.

It’s a little heavy in doing some work with some areas that could be streamlined. Overall it’s a great vacuum for pet hair or anything. The dual rollers and sureface face options are great.

This would be a great product for an apartment or a smaller space, but the battery doesn't stay charged long enough to vacuum the first floor of our home. Would also be good as a second vacuum in a home that had central vac.

We have had Dyson for several years but decided to give Shark a try and we have been very happy that we did.
The Pros:
- Light weight
- Quiet
- Swivel head with wheels and lights
- Two battery packs so that one is always charged
- Powerful suction
The Cons:
- We really only have one complaint and that is the stick has to be removed to empty the bin
So as you can see, we have only nit picked to come up with a negative for this vacuum and are very satisfied with it.
