Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the Rocket DuoClean HV381 Bagless Upright Vacuum's ease of use, powerful suction, and lightweight design as significant advantages. Many appreciate its effective carpet cleaning and the inclusion of useful attachments. However, some users wish it could stand upright on its own and find the storage solutions inadequate. The vacuum's performance on various floor types is generally praised.

Prefer this over my Dyson animal DC07

This vacuum just works. It's able to remove very fine dust particles that my Dyson DC07 animal left behind. I was always disappointed in the Dyson because my carpet didn't stand up. The Shark leaves the carpet standing tall and looking like it has been vacuumed. Not only that, I get dust balls the size of baseballs every time I empty it and a bunch of fine dust too! The size of the unit is also wonderful. I was never able to vacuum under the beds with the Dyson. I had to strip the beds and move the mattresses away to clean. Obviously that didn't happen on a regular basis. The Shark with it's tank up by the handle and the pivoting head made cleaning under beds a breeze. I had one done in minutes. The appliance nozzle works great too. I was able to clean under my range with it and the first time I used it, I could hear that it hadn't been done in....forever. Lastly, storing the unit is easy. I used the included wall hanger and it stows away in my coat closet. It hangs close to the wall with the power unit folded down taking up only a few inches of wall space depth. All in all I have nothing but positive results with the Shark Rocket.

I had high hopes of that this Rocket would be as awesome as my other one, but it was not what I expected. I have never owned a vacuum like this it is small and very lightweight. It is good on bare floors with the dual brushes and decent on carpet. It has good suction and cleans nicely. The attachments are nice for cleaning vents, ceiling fans, and under appliances. The area where is hard for me to rate it higher is the motor is incredibly loud and made my head hurt to use it for more than 5 minutes at a time. If you don't have sensitive ears, you may be able really enjoy this vacuum.

It's a good vacuum if you have a small area to clean all the time. Canister is very small, and I wasn't so thrilled about it not being able to stand up by itself. I would forget and turn it off and walk away from it, forgetting to lean it against something.

When I first opened the box, I had flashbacks about how hard the last vacuum was to put together. But unpacking out of the box, it was a breeze and I had it assembled as a push / pull unit for the floor, similar to the operation of my old vacuum in 7 minutes. Essentially, you can use this unit for many purposes, even a hand vacuum similar to a dust buster. Since I had not cleaned the carpet that week I decided to give it a try. This unit picked up more dirt in our carpet than the other unit did compared to our old cheap vacuum. Even worked nice on our hardwood floor on the lighter setting. Unfortunately, the push and pull experience can be a bit of a struggle sometimes depending how I'm feeling in the day, it can feel "heavy" at times to do so when you pull the vacuum back and then push it. All the weight for this unit seems to be at the top instead of the bottom but it's just as heavy as my old unit. While the design is very compact and easy to store compared to traditional units, it may be a challenge for those with limited mobility or range of motion with their hands / body. Overall, nice unit, but can come with some challenges depending how you lift items with weight.

I bought this wanting it to be awesome and it wasn't. I bought a Dyson Multifloor for $250 vs the $220 for the Shark and it is night and day. BUY DYSON

The only thing I don’t like is that the bristles are very sharp and strong so they are hard on the carpet. I use it mostly on the floor cycle.

    Mixed Feelings about Mixed Floors

I really wanted to like this vacuum - I know Shark makes excellent products and this one is no exception. The HV380 Duo Clean is Shark's competitor for the Dyson handheld vacuums and it's well made! Things I liked: The cord is long. 30feet long. This is awesome for vacuuming. Build quality is very good, this thing is well made. A little heavy considering you're basically carrying the motor, but less so than the Dyson. Attachments are superb, and this model comes with ALL of the ones you could want. The Duo Clean part is awesome on my rugs and soft flooring materials, picking up all sorts of stuff. The Shark also did an awesome job in the corners of the room on the hardwood where dog hair and things tends to accumulate. Things I didn't like: Transitions between flooring types. I have all hardwood and tile floors with lots of rugs and runners to protect the high traffic areas and keep the floors from being uncomfortable on feet. I hoped this would perform well on both, It does with some caveats. Similar to my woes with a Roomba, it wants to push some materials in front of it and deposit them on the edges of my rugs, where normally it would push them until it has a chance to pull them in. It did the same with the transitions between tile and hardwood where there is a sill plate. I am confident if this vacuum had enough of a chance it could suck up those materials, but they get lost in the apparent crevasse that is the change in flooring types. This bummed me out. Also at this price point I was sort of hoping it could be cordless, but that might have added to the weight. Overall: This vacuum definitely plays in Dyson territory and has the ability to replace or unseat one of those expensive suckers. I had high hopes with the mixed flooring in my home, but it didn't quite pull through. I am confident that as these small appliances continue to evolve eventually they will get to where I am giving them 5 stars, and this one is a far step closer, just not quite yet for me.

I'm a long time user of another brand (at least 20 years) so using another vacuum was interesting. In store testing only goes so far. The brand we've been using has always come pre-built so getting the vacuum in a box was the first challenge. The Shark Rocket Complete was packaged well. Assembly instructions and diagrams were easy to read and follow. So far so good. The Good: The Floor Nozzle has good suction. Very good suction actually! The vacuum literally pulls you the direction it's pointed. It picked up everything. It maneuvers around objects and between furniture nicely as well as having headlights that actually point at the flooring in front of it. I really liked how clean the soft roller got the tile floor. That's another nice feature, no adjustments need to be made to go from carpet to hard floor. The power cord is nice and long. My favorite feature though is the AWESOME hair remover tool that allowed quick and easy removal of hair from the Brushroller! Human hair is always going to be found in the carpet and it was incredible not to have to grab a pair of scissors and disassemble the vacuum to get them off the brushroller. The unit comes with several attachments that work well with the Handheld vacuum. I liked the Under Appliance wand the best because it reached very hard to reach areas in the Kitchen, under my couch, the reclining chair and under the bed! I got very good at cleaning the Dust Cup since I was able to get to those hard to reach areas! I couldn't believe how much, um, stuff, was in those places. The Bad: The vacuum comes in essentially 3 parts. The floor roller, the tube and the actual vacuum engine. The Engine part doubles as the handheld unit. Because of this I did find the unit to be top heavy. You can't have the vacuum stand up all by itself. It has to either lay on the ground or against a wall. The handheld unit on top is just too heavy and keeps the unit off balance. They do warn you of this in the manual. Shark thought they would be smart/tricky and combined two tools into one, the Duster Crevice Tool. I did find the adjustment button difficult to push and the length of the tool wasn't long enough once the Brush is pushed up. Again, the actual vacuum engine is in the top part. Because of this, the exhaust comes out of that unit and it's strong and very warm. The vent is pointed down but the net effect is that the warm air is blowing on your leg. It makes for an uncomfortable experience if your either in a warm environment or have to do a lot of cleaning. Now in winter this may be a nice way to warm up! The Verdict: There is no doubt the vacuum is going to clean the floor. It sucks like nothing I've used. The Appliance Wand is pure genius so now those never vacuumed places will get clean. The unit is super top heavy and it blows warm air on you. The point being you do get a workout for your arm(s) and long sessions will leave you feeling a bit moist from the heat. I'm not sure I'd want this to be my only vacuum due to the weight and heat but it definitely has features that my old vacuum doesn't.

I previously had 2 vacuums. A standard "professional" upright with no tools that I thought was fantastic on carpet, and an older upright with all the tools in the world for all those other places. This unit is the best of both worlds in a small package! It has all the tools, but you can keep some on the unit or just keep them in the accompanying bag in a closet and use them as needed. We vacuumed our living room with our old unit that we thought was great. We then re-vacuumed with this unit and the receptacle was full! They both had great suction, so all I can deduce is that the dual brush head is that much better at getting the dirt loose in the carpet. Then we went straight to vacuuming under furniture with the accompanying flat attachment that expands to 5' or so, and vacuuming the chairs, couch, walls, blinds! The only thing that takes getting used to is you can't stand the unit upright since the motor is at the top. If you have to stop while cleaning you either lay it on the floor or against something, or detach the top unit (which is easy) and hook it on the base. This doesn't take more than 10 seconds and is my preferred way of handling the issue, but my wife prefers to lean it against something. I don't think you can buy a better product at this price point!
