    An amazing compact vacuum

If you are looking for a light, compact vacuum, this is definitely the one to get. The design is nice and slim, which is great for quick cleanups. This won't necessarily replace a full size vacuum, but does the job its intended to do. Assembly takes mere minutes to get this thing ready to go. The cord on this vacuum is actually longer than our full size vacuum, which is great for our house since it's small (and if you have a lot of walls). It's also lightweight, portable and glides easily. There are two settings - 1 for bare floors/area rugs and 2 which is for thicker carpet/heavily soiled areas. One thing that takes some getting used to is that when you're using the vacuum, it seems to "self-propel." You might end up bumping into the walls and anything else while using this. This is not enough to take away one star though. Another thing is that the dust container is not very big, so you might have to empty this often depending on how much you use it. There is a bright LED on the head of the vacuum that makes it easy to see what you're vacuuming. When you take the main head off and use the portable vacuum, there is also an LED that makes it easy to see. If you use this while cleaning your car, you can easily see it. This comes with a very nice accessory kit which includes an extender, a wall mount, and extender clip that attaches to the vacuum, a nozzle with a sliding brush, and an accessory bag, which is great for storing everything in it. The other thing that's awesome about this vacuum is its ability to get under cabinets with ease. We were able to get underneath the kitchen cabinets with no issues. No bumping at all! Hopefully this vacuum stands the test of time with the suction, but we will find out. The filter is washable, so you shouldn't need to replace it with another one.

What a great vacuum! It took very little time getting this out of the box and fired up. It comes with an upright that can be changed into a handheld which works awesome on pet hair. The upholstery tool makes cleaning my car seats a snap. The duster crevice is great for the back of steps. The appliance wand really makes getting under the stove and fridge a breeze. The LED light is bright and lights up those corners. Very lightweight and versatile.

    Very good corded vacuum

Maneuverability: relatively narrow head takes more passes than typical upright, but it works well around (and under) furniture and is just the right width for standard stair treads. However, on stair treads, the motor head is a bit unwieldy when attached with the wand. Cord: About 1.5 rooms worth of cord. It needs to be unplugged and plugged in frequently. This is the most notable flaw in the design. Canister: small size helps with weight, but needs to be emptied frequently. It is easy to empty either attached or detached from the body. Filters: three replaceable filters (2 before and 1 after the canister) can be removed and washed. Shark recommends that this be done monthly. Replacement filters are available on the Shark web site. Light: LED headlight is a nice feature, but you still need to get on your hands and knees to look under furniture. There is also a status light on the motor head to indicate when the unit is not operating properly. Tools: the unit came with pet multi-tool, duster-crevice tool, upholstery tool, extendable under-appliance wand, on-board storage clip (holds 2 small tools on the wand), wall mount, and accessory bag. The pet multi-tool is just an upholstery tool with a detachable brush. The under-appliance wand is OK for appliances that can’t be moved (e.g. dishwasher) or for those who can’t (or don’t want too) move appliances and furniture to clean under them. The duster-crevice tool is handy as it allows you to carry one attachment with you while vacuuming rather than two. Motor: Two-speed motor recommended for bare floors and area rugs (low) and high-pile carpet (high). Low speed seems to work for our low-pile carpet. Two-roller Motor Head: This is a really nice feature! It is very efficient at picking up dirt on bare floors. This is the best design feature of the vacuum. User comments: Wife… I like the maneuverability of the motor head. Son… This thing really sucks! (in a good way ;-). Me… It won’t replace our cordless stick vacuum, but it will be used more frequently than the full-sized upright. If the option had been available, I'd have given it a 4.5 out of 5.

The Shark Rocket DuoClean HV381 is awesome. I’ve used this machine for many months and it’s a workhorse. It has great pickup and leaves vacuum marks on my carpet that many more expensive machines do not. I like just about everything this has to offer. The long power cord, the waste container doesn’t need to be emptied all the time, and how the brush tries to propel the powerhead forward as you vacuum. It makes this less of a chore. If I had any issue with the Rocket DuoClean, it’s that the accessory holder is awful. It falls off constantly. I wish it had a latch on the clamp to keep it on the pole. But that’s it. It comes with a wall mount so the unit easily hangs in my utility closet and a great appliance attachment that I can use for under the stove and furniture. I’d recommend this to anyone that asks. It is a great tool.

I gave this 4.8 stars (not quite a 5 star) however there are a couple of 'things' that I had problems with that others may have as well. First-pro- It did NOT scare the daylights out of my cat!!! Very quiet and small. Second pro- I just vacuumed my stair and did not kill my back like lifting my upright does. Third Pro- a LOT less cob webs in my house now that I can reach my ceiling without lifting an entire vacuum. Fourth-pro- seems very nice to my hard wood floors. Fifth pro- Did not disturb the one spider in my house that I try to keep alive (she LOVES flys and mosquitoes) while I cleaned all around her web/nest. First con- No where does it say to release the handle to vacuum, you simply unclick the handle out of the upright place. I spent some time trying to figure out why I was pressing on the little foot symbol and the handle was not releasing. I see this as a potential wear area that rings of planned obsolescence . Second con- you cannot rest this while running to move something out of the way, like a table or cat toy as it is top heavy Third con-the 12" crevice tool with brush says the brush is removable but I can't see how I really like this vacuum and even though I only used it one, I think it will a nice easy to use appliance!

I bought this vacuum after I read reviews and I called a friend who has an older model. This is an incredible practical vacuum who can be easily handle on a daily basis to keep your house clean. You can have it close by and you can grab it and use it for 2 minutes or you can use it to clean the entire house. I have a regular Shark vacuum and I can not see any difference in suction. What is great is how easy is to finally reach places where you will never vacuum. Changing accessories, the type of floor between carpet, wood and vinyl, vacuuming on floors, under furniture, the ceiling, or on walls was never easier. One big difference is on hard floors due to the new brush system. The dirt doesn't flies in all the directions anymore.

This is a fantastic option for anyone who lives in a home with stairs. I hated having to haul our old traditional vacuum up and down the stairs, and try to maintain a balancing act to clean each step as well. With our new Rocket vacuum, with the push of a latch it becomes a handheld vacuum, making cleaning the stairs so much easier. I had my doubts about how powerful a small vacuum like this could be, but after using for a few days, I am impressed. Not only is it powerful, but Rocket makes good on their claims of no loss of suction when moving from carpet to hardwood (or vice versa). No more bending down to switch a dial if I want to move from cleaning the carpeted area to wood floor. The LED light is great, especially for making sure you get all the webs from the ceiling corners or when cleaning under furniture. If I had to find anything to complain about, it would be the small-ish "dustcup" needs to be emptied each day I clean and the power cord does not have an auto-retract feature (you have to wrap the cord). It's a small, lightweight vacuum, so I can't really blame them for that. Overall, it's a fantastic upgrade over our old vacuum and I am very happy to have it. PROS: - Lightweight - Powerful (don't let its small size fool you) - Plenty of accessories - Bright LED light - Easy to maneuver - Included wall mount for storage - Included filter can be rinsed and re-used CONS: - Small lightweight vacuum means a small dirt bin that needs to be emptied frequently - No retractable cord

This vacuum was really a pleasant surprise. It really does have nice power and does basically what it claims. We (The wife and I) even threw down some small marbles and it had 0 issues grabbing them all up. As far as "extras" there are the upholstery and pet brushes as well as the flat arm used to get under appliances. These all worked well. The appliance arm also has a mini scraper thing at end to help knock up the nasties under the fridge, stove etc.. We did have to take off the from cover on fridge base to get arm under from the front. The dual brushes really grab and bring up the really buried dirt. It also has a little hair remover knife/hook that we did get use out of, as with a family of seemingly shedding girls the brushes did get filled with a decent amount of hair. Cleaning the hair out was a snap and the front very easily pops off and you take the hook and grab the hair and cut it out. Actually using the device was a snap and the quick 90 degree turns you can do really help getting around sneaky areas. Overall it was a great product with my only negative being the coverage area. It would be great for an apartment etc.. but for a lot of area I'd prefer a larger coverage area. I would recommend this product. Only used for a week or so but so far, so good :)

The Rocket Complete Upright is great for quick clean-up work. It is relatively quiet, but very effectively cleans. The unit is powerful yet light, making it easy to handle. The vacuum head has a low profile which allows it to get to places where our other vacuums cannot go.

    Good, But Not Great

This mighty be an ideal vac for a small apartment or a a quick cleanup of a large family room. Since it is not a full size upright, it has many limitations compared to one, and when the hand vac portion is separated it is heavy and fatiguing to use for more than a few minutes. It lacks the ease and lightweight of a good stick vac. Positives: Excellent packaging and information on box. All necessary attachments are provided, including a terrific under-appliance wand. Assembly is really a "snap" and components are of good quality. LED lighting on the power head and hand vac. Ingenious easy access to brush heads for cleaning. Has a wall hanger for storage. Comes with long power cord. 5-year limited warranty Less Positive: Unit is somewhat awkward to use. Inconveniently will not stand up (despite pictures that show it in that position). It does have small rubber pads to help hold it when leaned against a wall, but they do not work well when on hard surfaces. Dirt collection cup is small and will fill quickly, but is easy to empty. In sum, it was designed to fill the gap between a large upright and small hand vac and it does so with the expected compromises. Note: This review based on a unit provided me for the purpose of evaluation.

What I like about this vacuum: Cleans well Good suction and power. Lights are really bright and helpful. Can clean hard and carpet flooring. Easy to empty dirt container. Very low profile; can get under most furniture. Potential Cons? Shark does advertise this as being a lightweight vacuum and I do have to agree that compared to any other vacuum it is. It's about 10lbs and I would have not mentioned weight at all except both my wife and mom complained about it. The actual vacuum is in the handle of the machine while the bottom piece is almost like a long extension with rollers and dust pads. This means you are holding the bulk of the weight in one arm which can get tiring quickly. The width of the cleaning surface is not as wide as what you would find on a conventional vacuum.. I haven't used it to clean a whole room or the house but I feel this would make it cumbersome to do so. I am using it on our hard floors for times when I just need to do a quick clean before guests come over. It works much better than using a broom and dustpan so I am happy.

So far so good. I haven't run into any problems using this vac. I love the fact that you can detach it and use for places the vacuum can't fit. The light makes it better also! My dog sheds a lot so having this makes clean up a little easier. This is the first time I've owned a bagless vac and I really like it.

When You Try To Do Everything...

PLEASE NOTE: What follows is an independent review based solely on my experience with the product. It was supplied to me at no cost by BestBuy for evaluation purposes. This is a tough item to review. For the right buyer in the right setting, it might be a useful product. Here are some of the positives: It's well and attractively packaged, and that makes it easy to get started. The instructions are clear and easy to follow; assembly is almost intuitive. Instead of confusing icons and graphics, each latch and part is clearly labeled, as is the packing material. Opening the box makes a good first impression. Also, the components fit together with distinct clicks. While the materials are not of the same quality of, say, a Dyson, they have great "feel" and inspire confidence in their quality. The cord is a sufficiently long for an average room, and the vac comes with virtually every accessory one might need including a great "under appliance" attachment that works well. There is a convenient on-vac clip for two accessories, and a sturdy bag for others. It also comes with a convenient wall mounted hook (not used or evaluated) for storage. As noted in my title, the vac wants to be all things to all users. It has a clever two-roller system which seemed to work well on various surfaces, and the easily accessible power switch controls activation based on the surface being cleaned. There is a clever easy-to-use access door to allow cleaning of the rollers. Very nice design! The vac has a five-year limited warranty which is comforting and a testimony to the manufacturer's confidence in the materials and workmanship. As I trust is clear in the photo, it "fits" between a full-size upright and a stick vac. I've shown it with two Dyson models as Shark often uses that brand for comparisons. Here are the concerns: Unlike an upright, it will NOT stand up. I called Shark customer service (and was treated very promptly and well, although I had made no mention that I was doing an evaluation) to see if I had somehow missed an assembly step as the photos show it standing. The agent explained it did not, but it had on the back of the upper handle two ribbed rubber "pads" so that it could lean against a wall. They are each postage-stamp size and worked on carpeting, but on hardwood, the wheels would not hold, rubber pads or not. The weight bias is very top heavy as the power unit is obviously located there. The weight, even with the floor power head removed is quite noticeable and the touted "above floor cleaning" would get tiring quickly. The"dust cup" (collector) fills fast in floor use, although it is easy to empty. In summary, it's a great looking unit with seemingly lots of appeal. However, it's not a very good upright replacement (and likely was not intended to be) and is a lot heavier than a battery-powered stick vac with above-floor attachments. The ideal use for this would be a small apartment (or larger room) that needed a quick cleanup. I am not sure of the price (on line at Shark it "lists" for $200), so with its good looks, nice feel, and useful attachments it could fill a need for some buyers. While they certainly cost more, for optimal cleaning I prefer dedicated vacs--an upright or canister and a stick vac--rather than this hybrid which has made a lot of compromises in terms of utility and usefulness. Sharks make plenty of those also.

I have to admit that is a different concept, however I get used to it, and I am able to reach areas that with the regular vacuums I wasn't able to do reach it in the past. The brushes are powerful, and don't get wrong because of the look of the vacuum, tiny, it is a design that offer powerful suction and cleanliness.

My first stick vacuum. I was hesitant to purchase but this particular model has a cord and the attachments I've become accustomed to and rely on. I have hardwood floors throughout and Turkish rugs. Im amazed at how well it performs. Only one very minor complaint-- it doesn't stand upright too well, not very sturdy. The unit comes with a wall mount. I wish it came with the motorized upholstery attachment but not a deal breaker. The reach for dusting away cob webs is awesome and easy to maneuver-- I'm 5' 2". SO glad I got this, makes dusting and vacuuming a breeze.

I was really excited to get this Shark vacuum. I have a Dyson vacuum and it was NOT worth the purchase price. I had high hopes for the Shark, based on reputation. The blue color was gorgeous, and I loved the appliance wand that came with it. I thought that was a really neat idea. I found that the vacuum, during the first use, was quite awkward. All the weight is managed in one hand, rather than being evenly distributed. Because the weight is in the upper part of the unit, the vacuum does NOT STAND UP BY ITSELF. I put the emphasis on this because it's so unusual for a vacuum. You have to find something to lean it against JUST SO, or plan on laying it down on the floor. The wand worked great - picked up a lot of stuff from under the stove. My refrigerator did not have enough clearance for it to go underneath. I was able to use the unit twice. Then it stopped picking up. I went to the troubleshooting online, found out that I had to check for clogs. I had to take it all apart and use a curtain rod to push out the clog (a mix of hair, bits of paper, and lint). I put it back together and...it still would not pick up consistently. It would pick up a bit, then spit it back out on to the carpet. I had to get out the Dyson and try to clean up the mess the Shark made. Based on this experience, I would not purchase another Shark product. I also am still looking for a quality vacuum.
