I went to the local store and checked out this vacuum after researching several sites and several other brands of vacuums. I ended up ordering online, taking advantage of the sale price plus and additional 20% off savings, so it cost me $220.
It was easy to put together. The first time I used it I vacuumed 3 rooms of carpet and it filled the canister. I emptied it and vacuumed the other 2 carpeted rooms and a linoleum floor in the kitchen. I emptied the canister again.
I bought this because I have a Dyson, which works great on carpet, but is a bear to push on non-carpeted floors.
After seeing how much dirt the Shark picked up, however, I wonder how well my Dyson actually worked??
The rest of my house has hardwood floors and it cleaned them nicely. The vacuum glides easily over any surface. I have a tile floor in my entry way and that cleaned up well also.
I used most of the attachments so far (only purchased it 10 days ago). The canister allows me to carry it up the stairs and vacuum with little effort. I have 2 boxers in the house and I could vacuum the dog beds and their chair (they are not allowed on the other furniture!) and feel confident I was getting them clean. I also have parrots and it cleaned up their pellets and feathers with no problem.
It is light weight, easy to move, easy to attach accessories, easy to empty canisters. I wish the cord was a bit longer. It doesn't feel as solid as my Dyson but for me that's okay because it handles better. It lays down to get under furniture part way and my Dyson roller ball wouldn't do that. Anyway, the Dyson is going to my daughter who only has carpet.
Glad I bought it. So far so good. Great price. I'm happy with it.

I did a lot of research on buying a new vacuum. I have many different types of flooring in my house and multiple levels. I also have a 100lb Labrador and old carpets. I wanted something that my wife could haul around, but I would the primary user. I gotta say that I love this vacuum. The power is way more than the other cheaper vacuums that we have had. So much so that it actually brought the nap back on some worn out spots. You can see and feel the power of the suction. That is good and bad because cheaper carpets will actually start to lose material the more you use it.... but I don't care. I am getting the dirt and pet hair out! I also love the swiveling head, the multiple heads for different heads for different surfaces (use the bare floor head for bare floors... duh) and the lift away option for carry around and doing trim. The unit has held up well over the last 8 months and I still enjoy using it. My wife likes the vacuum, but has been reluctant to use it with the right accessories. As I continue to encourage her to use the right tools with it (use it as it was designed), she likes the unit more and more. The only downside (and not REALLY a huge downside) is that the head is a little smaller in width than most others, so you have an additional pass or two. But, it's so easy to maneuver, you really don't care. The wheeled stand for rolling the unit around while using the wand really IS hard to tip over. The wand hose is just a bit too short and does bump into your ankles sometimes (even though is extendable), but you get used to that too. All I can ask of this unit is to last and so far it has done that. Get a shark (Rotator with all the accessories)!

I had watched the Shark Rotater vs. Dyson many times and finally decided it was time to purchase the Shark. With my Best Buy reward points, I figured out that purchasing through Best Buy was the most economical.
It is very easy to use right out of the box...virtually no set up required. I tested it first in my family room that has heavy carpet traffic and pets on furniture. WOW! I was shocked at the suction power as it sucked up all the pet fur that I thought I had been removing with my old Eureka upright!
I used the Rotater power attachment for the furniture, upright for the carpeting and duster attachment for ceiling fan , blinds and shelves. Worked great on the fan and blinds but I prefer a Swiffer duster for shelves. I also used the upright on spin brush mode which picked up more than when brush was not on.
On bare floor, the attachment for the floor worked better than just the upright and was super easy to use when the canister was placed on the base.
I have only two complaints. One, is that when the canister is on the base it is top heavy and tips over somewhat depending on how much one pulls the hose to drag it closer. Second, the hose is too short for the attachments once it is released from the upright function. It seems like there is an extension missing.....I will be looking into that.
My family has allergies and I have asthma so having the bagless sealed canister technology was a selling point and it really works! I don't have to wear a mask when I use it like I have had to before with a vacuum that used bags and a HEPA filter.
It is pretty lightweight and has a great headlight on it that is very bright to help see in dark spaces. I highly recommend this vacuum....I've had it for 2 months.

We have 3 pekingese mix dogs and the first time I used this vacuum, I had to empty the canister twice during the initial vacuuming of an 8X10 shag rug. At that time it became obvious the old vacuum hadn't been doing the job for quite some time.
This unit blows me away. It's a great vacuum for such a low price. I paid a small fortune for my previous vacuum, so I really didn't expect the performance this unit delivers. (Boy was that previous vacuum a waste of money!)
As I stated earlier, I use this on a shag rug and it did a GREAT job. I also use it on carpet and tile/wood floors. The handle removes easily so you can use the wand to get into crevices as you go along.
I fussed and fumed trying to make the decision to buy this unit. I saw great reviews, but didn't trust them because the Shark doesn't cost more than $500. I'm so glad I purchased this. I'll never pay too much for a vacuum cleaner again.

Definitely a great vacuum. It is the quietest vacuum I have ever had. It is great on hard flooring and carpets. Very easy to empty. Light weight and easy to move around and get into tight spaces. The hose disconnects easily so you can use it to get into hard to reach places and quickly replace it so you can continue vacuuming.Highly recommended.

I had bought this vacuum cleaner for my mother. She absolutely loves it. Out of the box assembly was pretty straight forward. She was a little confused at first but once I showed her she has no issue with it anymore. For the price versus other vacuums this one is by far exceeding our expectations, with phenomenal performance, attachments for about any situation, easy cleanup or emptying the canister, and the ability to disconnect the floor cleaner and carry around the canister with you. The allergen filters are all easily accessible for cleaning. On top of that it is very lightweight and versatile. All of it is backed by a 5 year guarantee from the manufacturer. If you don't mind spending a little more for a vacuum cleaner than most of your streamline ones I would highly recommend this product.

Dyson's are awesome but they're obviously super expensive. The Shark is powerful, yet quite. It's super versatile as it allows you to disconnect from the main component for use in the kitchen, vehicle or hard to reach places. It comes with 7 or 8 attachments and is very easy to empty the bagless filter. I love it

This is the best vacuum I have ever had. It works great and the suction is unbelievable. My husband usually vacuums the carpets for me and he was shocked as to how much dirt and who knows what came out of the carpet. We vacuum every week and we could not believe the dust, dirt, and hair etc. that this vacuum sucked up.The carpet looks like we just shampooed it. We have a very light color carpet and I shampoo it often to keep the color true and after vacuuming, the pile of the carpet is up and looks like new. The catty for the lift away to vac. the tile is very easy to use and glides right behind you. We love this vacuum cleaner. I checked out every review on the internet for 3 weeks and every thing pointed to this vacuum. I LOVE IT>>> I highly recommend this vacuum to every one that wants a clean house. LOVE IT.....

We had a (then) top-rated Sears Kenmore upright that we bought in 2003, and it saw a lot of use that wore it out. I was advised to spend the money for a Dyson, but their performance doesn't justify their price. Don't take my word for it--ask Consumer Reports! I saw an info-mercial on TV about the Shark lift-a-way, and it lives up to what the ad claims! It's light-weight, with lots of power/suction, and it's easy to use--what more could you want from a vacuum? The only thing that would make it better, would be a bigger 'bin' so you didn't have to empty it so often; but other than that--I have no complaints. Does a great job, at HALF the price of a Dyson!

This vacuum has a strong suction power. After one time of vacuuming, it collected quite a bit more dirt off the seemingly clean floor than expected. This vacuum is very maneuverable, both as a regular vacuum and connected the its accessory pull-behind stand. The accessories are very versatile. They have more then enough options for whatever vacuuming needs to be done. This vacuum is easy to use and light to carry.

After years of me complaining about our canister vac, my wife agreed to go to an upright. I read a ton of reviews about the Shark, and decided to give it a try. We love it! It really never loses suction, no matter how much crud it picks up. It really showed us what a terrible job our old vacuum was doing. Dumping the canister can be kind of a pain, but since the vacuum still works when the canister is pretty filled up, I just time emptying it when I have to take the trash out anyhow.
It'll either make you sad to see all the dirt it pulls up, or motivate you to vacuum more often! Maybe both!
I also like all the attachments, and how much easier it is to vacuum the stairs since I can lift off the canister and just set it on the steps as I go.
I highly recommend!

PROS
To date the NV501 has both met and exceeded my expectations. I put this product through its paces and this is what I’ve found…
Noise Level – This unit is incredibly quiet for the amount of suction it produces. This is my 3rd vacuum (2 Hoovers previously) and it, hands down, has the best power-to-noise ratio.
Fabric Furniture – The [Lift-Away Mode] is perfect for circling around furniture while cleaning my chair, sofa, and cushions. The [Wide Upholstery Tool] works well and does a great job of managing the vacuum suction when set a max. I was embarrassed how much dust and fluff the NV501 removed from my furniture. Blush.
Floor Cleaning – This is my first ‘rotor’ vacuum and the feature makes total sense; it ensures the brush roller remains perfectly flat over carpet and bare floors when pushing it around. It’s not required, but I normally empty the dust collector multiple times when vacuuming as the suction is really good on this unit.
Variable Suction – There is a [Suction Control] collar located conveniently near the ‘loop’ handle. You really do need this feature because this unit generates a lot of suction.
The Cord Test – A big test for me is what happens when you vacuum over a power cord/cable on the floor. My last vacuum failed this test miserably. Using the NV501, I inadvertently vacuumed over a cable, it became entangled in the brush roller without causing ‘motor strain’, screeching, or smoking; I had time to untangle the cord before any serious damage was done.
Headlights – This unit has headlights. I’ve always been skeptical of this feature, but it’s implemented well on the NV501. I’m converted.
Attachments – My last vacuum had fairly useless attachments. I was pleasantly surprised how well-constructed and practical the accessories are.
Filter Cleaning – This model has 3 filters. Filter cleaning is straight forward and I would suggest doing it more frequently than the user manual recommends. This vacuum simply picks up way too much dirt not to be cleaned at least every 3-5 uses. In my opinion, it’s the best way to prolong the life of your [Foam Filter] and [Felt Filter] and keep your [HEPA] filter pristine.
CONS
Minor – I will admit to having the instruction manual open and available the first time I used this model. There a lot of features to familiarize yourself with.
Nuisance – The [Hose Clip] secures the hose to the vacuum body when used in [Upright Mode]. It will occasionally detach itself in the course of vacuuming and takes a conscious effort to reattach it. PRODUCT SUGGESTION, replace the [Hose Clip] with a strong magnetic clip; this would hold the hose in place and require less effort when reattaching the hose to the vacuum body.

I am absolutely in love with this vacuum. I am very OCD when it comes to cleaning in general and have gone through more vacuum cleaners than I care to admit I know vacuum cleansers. I have to say this vacuum is hands down the best I've ever owned. It is easy to use, fairly lightweight, and all of the extra attachments make cleaning so much easier. I would absolutely suggest this vacuum to anyone who is looking for an awesome everyday use vacuum. I must also add that we have pets and it picks up pet hair with ease and does not clog.

This is the absolute best vacuum ever! It is effortless to push, swivels easily, and has great suction. The vacuum doesn't even eat the cord if it gets run over. This is the first vacuum I look forward to using because it is so lightweight and gets the job done. I get excited to see how much "stuff" I have vacuumed up after I am done! Hands down, best vacuum ever!

New item-Not a lot of use yet.
So far I love the vacuum.
I used my old unit, then re-cleaned after with the Shark Rotator. I was surprised how more much dirt/fiber/hair was picked up from the previously vacuumed carpet.
The things I liked:
1) Lot of features (the 'lift away' canister is great).
2) Plenty of accessory tools.
3) The Brushroll on/off feature is my favorite. (My old vacuum ate spots of carpeting when using the hose atachment, and preassure was applied to the continuous roller).
4) The hose is attached lower on the unit which helps prevent tipping (when using the portable canister base).
5) Easy to steer around, and propels itself forward with no effort to push the unit.
6) Lightweight compared to my old Hoover Windtunnel (and quieter too).
7) Easy to dump out the dust cup each time I vacuum.
8) A multi angle dusting brush was a bonus that came with unit. (it is perfect for ceiling fans & flat/angled areas above your head).
9) Suction control on the wand handle to avoid making your curtains disappear.
What I don't like:
1) Cord could be a few feet longer. (I can't reach the same areas as before without changing to a new elec outlet).
2) The unit is a little 'tippy' when using the wand while the motor is connected to the main base.
Watch smaller, lighter floor rugs & take more care to clean. This vacuum has a lot of suction, even when you adjust for less, and may pick up the carpet occasionally. The brushroll will stop if something jams, which is good.
Overall, this seems like a great vacuum so far. When I use it though, while pulling the vacuum backwards, I lower the handle to take weight off the roller. I just try to take some of the load off the motor. The motor works a little harder as it's still trying to pull forward. You can hear a difference.
Note: this is just me, and there is nothing in the manual that says it is necessary to do so.
Also bought the extended warranty. Don't normally, but it allows me to bring it back to my local Best Buy. (They cover a lot more than just 'materials & workmanship' like the manuf.) Otherwise, if anything happens I must ship it to the manufacturer, which would cost as much as the warranty.

I have three different types of carpet, as well as linoleum and hardwood flooring. This vacuum works well on all of the surfaces, including my stairs. It's easy to clean the stairs with the lift off base. With the different attachments, I can get all the pet hair off the two types of flooring on my stairs (carpet and hardwood). I absolutely love this vacuum! It's definitely better than the Dyson I had.

Had not been able to get me a new vacuum cleaner in probably 10 years. Could not believe how light it was, yet powerful suction and all the attachments that came with it. Spur of the moment decision, I bought a highly rated Dyson for an awesome price, but hadn't started my research yet.I didn't open it yet and figured I better start my research. My furry friend, whom sheds alot and also had the case of the Fleas, pushed me into this very quick decision.I was looking for a new vacuum that would pick up all the dog hair and also be so easy to operate. This product fit the bill.I can, with just a push of a button, go from carpet to hardwood floors.I also am able to do the carpet on my stairs with very little effort.I have dealt with back and neck pain for years, so I needed something that wouldn't aggravate my issues.I love that it can become a canister vac and with the tools it comes with I am able to clean under furniture, beds and even ceilings!I am amazed at how it never loses suction or clogs with all that dog hair. The volume of dirt and hair amazes me!I am able to inspect the contents for fleas very easily or find items that I didn't mean to suck up.I usually empty the canister outside the home so the dust doesn't get back inside.I have one area that is a higher plush carpet and that area takes a little more strength to vacuum, but it is not a deal breaker. The low pile carpets are a breeze. The vacuum actually seems to be self propelled on the low pile areas, so make sure you hang on :) I am so pleased with this product and very thankful I returned the Dyson.Love that I can convert it to a canister and back with so much ease.I have kids with Dust Mite allergies. It was important to me that this product does not blow out air from the vacuum. This product only blows out fresh air, allergy friendly.
