There were no Panasonics to be found anywhere, so we had to choose among available options. The Sharp model was about the same size, wattage, and had similar features so we gave it a try. The Sharp does not compare well to the Panasonic. In terms of power, it takes twice as long to heat a cup of water. The physical quality is poor: the alarm sounds raspy and sick, like it is nearly worn out. The door opener is lax and cheesy. Lastly, the digital time display is way too bright and there is no way to dim it. We have to put a towel over the microwave at night so the light doesn't keep us awake. I would not purchase a Sharp appliance again.
