Sound quality, better than I could've expected from such a small looking mic. Easy to install. the battery was tricky to install bc I didn't see which was the positive and negative ends....and the battery door doesn't close with just pushing it.....I thought I could just push it and it would click shut....you have to push the cover door to the battery compartment but you have to ensure the battery door shuts not just by pushing put by manipulating it manually. the micro SD card went in smoothly and it was up and ready in seconds. to playback, you can plug in headphones directly into the device. there are inserts for the headphones and also a red insert to connect the wire it comes with to connect the camera to the Shure. press the power button to turn on. make any adjustments to your liking as indicated in the manual for the type of sound that best suiits your needs and press the record button and start your project. I picked up on some awesome nature sounds, that brought nature to life in a whole new way for me. Even foot prints sounded amazing. Almost like a foley artist was in the making. Be careful the playback button for the level of the sound isn't set to high for the headphones while the headphones are on, bc it can be LOUD. ouch! I learned the hard way, but the adjustment button is a bit awkward and it controls so many things that pushing it without very much having the proper knowledge can end up causing you to inadvertently increase the volume of the playback or while recording. any camera/video camera enthusiast should have this device on their camera for their projects. The quality just makes it more enjoyable to record and playback and show others. it would make the difference between earning a higher grade for a student vs earning an award or acknowledgment from a society or contest. sets you apart from the rest for sure. I would highly recommend the Shure.

I love using my DSLR to capture great images, but I’ve always been dissatisfied when I’ve used it to take great video, only to have a sub-par audio track. Given the expense of DSLRs, and understanding that going beyond onboard mics would be necessary to achieve decent audio, I wanted something that integrated nicely and wouldn’t need external cords or other awkwardness. Even though this is one of the more expensive options, I think it pairs very well for anyone who frequently captures video with their DSLR. Additionally, while it’s great that you can mount this right on many DSLRs, it also offers the flexibility of detaching for better placement AND you don’t need a cord to do so. The fact that you can load it’s own SD card or record to the internal SD card is really nice. Obviously, if you record directly onto the mic’s SD card, you have to sync the audio afterward, but this shouldn’t be a challenge for most users who need this type of equipment. The option of not having to bother with that aspect and still go cordless will come in handy, I’m sure. It may go without saying, but Shure makes some of the best microphones out there and all the audio I've captured has been excellent. Finally, I am very happy with both the construction and form factor. It's solid and compact without sacrificing anything feature-wise.

    Great Microphone for the Money!!

Shure has built a great microphone for DSLR recording with the VP83F Lenshopper. Out of the box the microphone needs some refinement, mic peaks, tight dB range before you wreck the audio and captured way too much outside noise for a condenser mic. Once you refine the settings though (30 out the box tinkered it down to 20 db) and then it sounded incredible. Voice is studio level clear, and the noise you're trying to capture whether it be crowd noise or your own voice for vlogs, is rich and robust. It commands attention when you hear it back, making it perfect for online videos for Youtube or other platforms. The fact that also the mic is relatively lightweight and can function as a hand held mic away from my camera on the go with its flash recording is well worth the price tag. For someone who is budget conscious with their next purchase, and looking to get the most microphone for their money, this would take priority over a new lens or camera. I'd much rather improve my audio, and you cant beat the versatility or functionality of the mic at this price point. My only complaint would be you need a lot of AA batteries on hand as it will go through them fairly often with flash recording. All In all though I HIGHLY recommend this microphone for anyone looking for a solid option to their DSLR camera.

While this may seem expensive for a shotgun mic its actually not when you consider the sound quality you get from this setup. Its super simple to set up and you can be on your way in quick time. It works so well in many different ways. One on one, run and gun, and even does well in crowds when doing a one on one recording. Overall im super impressed with thsi mic and im still learning all the features. If you do Youtube or anything like that then this is a must buy for your Mirrorless/DSLR

This condenser mic is the perfect companion to any dynamic, portable videographer! The build in flash recording in this microphone is simply a game changer and worth every penny. If you’ve experienced the pain before of corrupted audio, too much background noise, or a camera that for some reason didn’t record the audio from the external mic, this will supply quite the backup to your workflow. In a perfect setup, it would be easy to deploy multiple microphones and numerous redundancies, but in a dynamic workflow having your microphone and videography device together in a compact package gives you a competitive edge to capture that perfect mobile shot. Pulling the Shure VP83F out of the box, first thing you’ll notice is the solid build quality. The metal shell makes it feel very sturdy, the design is simple and modern, and the shock mount design isolates the microphone very well. The screen is a little on the small side, but not a big issue. Everything is easy to use and understand, it just would be nicer to not have to get so close to the screen to make sure everything is still happy with the microphone. While the device is feels very sturdy it’s also still very light, so it doesn’t add a lot of weight to your DSLR or whatever device you’re using. Setting your gain, recording, and headphone/listening settings is very simple from the menu. The audio quality is excellent, especially in challenging situations where the direction microphone really shines. Shure certainly knows how to make a microphone! The low frequency filter (<170 hz) and foam filter work very well to cut wind noise. Shure also offers an additional wind filter should you need ever more filtering capabilities. The feature I really love best about this is the ability to dual record audio in one compact package. You can record straight to a SD card on the Shure while separately adjusting the output level going to your camera. This allows you to capture two different audio sources at the same time. Not only does this give you editing options, it creates redundancy is an extremely portable package. I can’t recommend this enough, if you need a well-rounded, reliable, quality built shotgun microphone, look no further than this Shure VP83F.

As I get more and more into videography and vlogging I keep meaning to upgrade my microphone. I have been very happy with this so far! It fits in my Sony perfectly and the setup was simple. Even the audio controls seem intuitive and I’m not an expert. Best part of this has to be the flash recording. That is what makes this stand out from all the others. The ability to record the audio separately makes this an easy 5 stars and should be on everyone’s wish list. I like that it has its own power supply and doesn’t draw from the cameras battery. It uses AA, everyone with a camera bag has some of those in their bag!

I was hoping this Shure LensHopper mic would improve the audio quality of videos taken with my DSLR. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. I am not an experienced videographer by any means. I haven't ever used video editing software. When I saw that this was able to record the audio separate from the video I felt a little out of my depth. Luckily there is a "passthrough" option that's sends the audio from the mic straight to the camera. I spent some time taking videos of family with and without the Shure LensHopper mic, and played them back to back on my computer. What I found was that the video clips using the LensHopper were louder, but the audio quality was not improved. I really don't know what I expected, but I was unimpressed. Perhaps if you're more into sound editing you'll get more use out of this than I will. Also, if louder is what you want (maybe this is indicative of its further reach?), then the Shure LensHopper might be for you.
