Good product, no internet required
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best thing about this is no need for internet connection. The downfall is the required monthly subscription of $30 per month in order to use the mobile app. The cheaper monthly subscription does not give access to the app.

insanely easy to install and use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This alarm system is incredibly easy to install and to use. It is almost so easy you feel like you are missing steps during the install. Whats in the box: 6 window/door sensors, 2 motion sensors, 1 keypad, 1 keychain remote, main base, outdoor sign. Setup: SO easy. You simply (or should I say Simpli?) plug in the base station, and use the double-sided tape (or screws if you wish) to stick the sensors to their respective spot. After that, you go online and set up an account (address phone numbers, security code, name sensors if you want etc.). All of the sensors come out of the box pre programmed and synced with the base station, so none of that is required. All in all, it took me 15 minutes from opening the box to having the system up and running. SO easy. Use: Just as easy as installing. You just hit "Home" or "Away" on the keypad to arm, and you just type in your PIN to disarm. No other buttons required to be pushed. When the system is disarmed the system can act as a door chime. There is also an App that allows you to get system status, or remote control, from your phone. Expansion: You can always add sensors or keypads later on by just using the online portal. Cons: Not many, but a couple minor ones. If you don't pay the 25 dollar a month plan, you don't have remote access via the web or app, which is part of what makes this so easy to use. If you decide to use the lower plan, or no plan at all, you can still change settings but you have to use a USB thumb drive on your computer, then plug it into the base to transfer settings. I don't find this too bad though, as any other major alarm system costs double per month and usually requires a ridiculous contract. The alarm is a bit quiet out of the box, you can add a loud siren if you want. The door chime is also quiet, and even if you add the extra siren that does not make the door chime louder. Overall: If you want an alarm system, get this. For the price and ease of use you can't beat it. The few downsides are far outweighed by the upsides. $25 a month on the highest monthly fee is worth it for an alarm system with monitoring. In the past I've had alarms by "alarm companies" and the system isn't any better, costs FAR more to have installed, and then costs $60+ a month for 36 months.

Easiest way to protect your home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SimpliSafe Defend Home Security System is definitely worth investing in. There are many great features that come along with this system, and a low cost per month if you chose to opt in to their 24/7 monitoring service. What I really like about this system is how easy the setup process is. The instructions provided included step-by-step pictures and frequently asked questions. I had zero problems during installation. Each security part (entry sensor, motion sensor) is wireless and uses their own batteries. That means all you really have to do is secure them with a screw or use the provided foam adhesive. The great thing with this system is how easy it is to expand. If you choose to incorporate more safety features (CO2 detector, water sensor, etc.), you can easily buy them and add it to your existing setup. Using the alarm system is about as easy as it gets. If you use the provided security key, all you have to do is press away/off to turn the system off or on without needing to enter a pin. If you chose to use the keypad, you have a minute to exit/turn it off before the siren goes off. If I had to chose a thing to pick on, is that I wished it would allow you to opt out of the monitoring service, but still be able to get notifications via an app or email if something goes wrong. For the price it is at, it really isn't asking for much. My router sends notifications to my phone when the internet was interupted, so I can't see why it couldn't be incorporated into this. Overall, it's an amazing product and I feel safer every time I leave my house. I would definitely recommend this product to my friends.

Easy Set-up, Not a lot more
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to set up the system. I'm not a super handy person (high school woodshop class aside), so I wasn't sure how install was going to go. But this really is a DIY system that is not at all difficult to set up. I had no issues getting everything connected, it was a smooth process. But that was pretty much the best part of the system. I have to be honest, I'm really turned off by the design/look of this system. It looks old right out of the box. There really is something to be said for a sleek, modern look especially when you're talking about a security system that you want to protect your house. The color reminds me of computers from the 90s. And since you are supposed to stick these things on your walls (some of which are pretty noticeable), I'd like them to look a little better than they do. Also keep in mind, a big part of the reason why this system is so much cheaper is because it doesn't have cameras. Obviously a security system doesn't have to have cameras, but I missed that more than I thought I would. Plus, the only way to access the system through the app is if you do a paid subscription. Maybe it was naive, but I wasn't expecting to have to pay a separate subscription for the basic features. I left the review at 3 stars because honestly, the system does do what it's supposed to do. But I found the whole thing fairly underwhelming.

Good for what you get
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to start off by saying this was a hard review. Reason being there is a few things extra that you have to consider before making this purchasing decision. First being does your county require a permit to have on of these systems because mine does but luckily only $10 a year. Second, which of the two monthly services do you pick the interactive one that gives you control of our system through your phone. That's the one you want and it's $24.99 a month or $14.99 a month for a hey we will call if you something happens. Before that when you unpack this system you get a lot of sensors for the money. 6 entry sensors which covered every door and window in my smaller home. You might need more if your house has more but luckily you also get two motion sensors which all ties in with the keypad and base station. First thing that you will love about this system is EASY INSTALL. Just some adhesives to put up instead of a complicated drilling holes kind of setup. Keep in mind you do get screws just incase the adhesives don't work for you but you should be okay. What's really nice about this system is it's a good starting base meaning if you need to add a camera or another sensor just get it and stick it. Setup was easy and I also appreciated the multiple way to do it, including a usb stick key fob incase you prefer a simple setup wizard way. My only gripe is what I mentioned at the beginning. I want the $24.99 option but I don't think it's worth and extra $10 a month. I almost feel like they should have just given only one option at $20 a month instead also everything is super cheap plastic. Other than that the system works well and gives you a nice grace period so you don't actually set it off and have to pay for the sorry alarms. Everything uses batteries so nobody can just disconnect the power to bypass the system.

Cheap, Safe, and Reliable. Very solid.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A friend of mine had an older Simplisafe system before and always recommended me getting one; so when I had the chance to try out the new "Defend" system I hopped on the chance to try. I have had it for about a week now to give my best possible review. The system instructions are clear and simple enough to install on your own (but personally I would get Geek Squad for something like this again.) Once installed though it's an awesome system that keeps you protected. It’s cheap, adorable, really simple, and straightforward. It says you can set it up in under an hour but that was not the case for me. took me about 3 hours to get everything set up. I recommend using screws with the sensors so they don’t fall from the windows while you are away. The sensors are pet-friendly and have worked for me to a degree but I found the pets have to be really close to sensor monitor for it to trigger. I don’t see this being a problem. Leaving doors open and windows will alert you which is fine with me. It does have a Cellular battery pack within so it's not easy to turn off or if the power just shuts off. it always stays on so you don't need wifi or a phone line. Let's talk about what you get in the box and the features. There are 11 pieces in total and they all serve for larger homes. The system is wireless so placing it in locations is easy. 1 Base Station: The base and the home hub of the system. Most of the best stuff lies here. Celluar, batteries, and other radio are in the base. 1 Keypad: The keypad is less advanced but works as intended. A pretty standard which just gives you the basics. Wish the light on it got brighter to see at night. There a home and away button but also a nice big red panic button. 6 Entry Sensors: For windows/doors. Give you plenty to put around the house. (you can add more at any time.) 2 Motion Sensors: Placing them around the room would detect/alert you of motion. (you can add more at any time.) 1 Keychain remote: Make sure to not have it pressing against your pockets because it will hit the panic button. It has happened to me a few times already. I stopped using this after a week. 1 Simplisafe sign and window decals: I don’t use this or advertise I have a home security system so to me this was the most useless thing in the box. HD Security Camera: (Sold separately) you can stream from your smartphone PC and also event triggers so you will always know whats going on inside your home. something I'm going to invest in. Simplisafe App: Its functional and smooth. Works well and it is fluent. You can always keep up on updates. you can use your laptop or phone to keep track of all the things. Others: I will mention it again that it is wireless but what I didn't say was that this goes up to 10,00 ft so you can put these anywhere in the home and be safe. There is no annual contract either and only cost $14.99! I know the price is insane! this price for always 24/7 protection? Sign me up! the first month is free so you can always try first, but believe me its worth the money. Overall I like the Simpisafe system in my home, it seems to be a good security system at a cheap price. it takes a while to setup but its totally worth it in the end. I'm a believer in this system and I love it. Glad I got to use this because it is needed.

Simply too simple.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SimpliSafe is a wireless monitoring and security system that is promoted to be very easy to set up , affordable and has all the modern “ bells and whistles.” On surface, it appears to be a great idea but there are many caveats and the bells and whistles are not so extensive. First, if you are tech person and into home automation, this is not the system for you. All the sensors , parts and pieces communicate through some unknown RF protocol . That’s right – essentially a proprietary protocol for the Simplisafe product. So what does that mean? No Z-Wave, no Zigbee, no wi-fi, no bluetooth . That means no integration into switches, dimmers, lights , sensors cameras ( except Nest) nor any other home automation devices. So no Google Home, Apple Homekit nor Alexa. Obviously, this is by design and you have to set the proper expectations if you buy this system. It is designed to be an easy to install system with virtually no mobile app integration and a gateway to offer low cost home monitoring. In review - Installation - First you plug in the key chain remote to your computer and run through the program. I had some trouble getting it to work on Mac but eventually did get it to run .I kept getting an error of “ cannot detect keychain Check firewall…..” After unplugging it and putting it back in , it worked partially. The screen that came up got stuck on “ Please wait while settings load.” I started the process over again and everything worked fine. The installation was very straight forward, basically follow the prompts and install each component. Activating the component is just pulling the tab on the battery and it is ready. Very simple. After everything is installed, you take the keychain remote and plug it into the top of the base so it can transfer the settings. It terms of installation, Simplisafe did a great job. One note, during the set up instructions , there is a page that is for setting up a siren ( which does not come with the basic package) but the top of the page states “Setting up keypad.” This is an obvious typo. Pros - Cellular connectivity. Rechargeable battery backup in base so the functions will still work if power is lost. Set up is very simple . Base has a loud clear voice. Can handle a lot of sensors. Cons - You have to carry a keychain remote for handheld, mobile operation. It is not water resistant. Bulky. Cheap and appears that it will not hold up. There is a cap covering the USB that can easily fall off and be lost. Entry Sensors – very large and bulky. Key Pad – standard back lit LCD screen that is 1/8 the size of the key pad. The pad is enormous. Dated ,archaic look and feel of pad and sensors. Everything has the look and feel that it was made 15 years ago. App seems useless other than setting up a Simplicam, activate monitoring or shop simple safe. Base package has plenty of entry sensors but no glass break nor siren. This is tough review. The product does what it says but left me wanting so much more. I installed a few sensors but did not enable the live home monitoring. I rated this on the merit of hardware side because live home monitoring is going to be pretty consistent amoung these types of companies ( most are very good and Simplisafe does have good ratings.) But today is a day of apps , integration and home automation. I can understand if they are trying to keep the security side tight by not leaving openings in their protocol but I think this product will fall by the wayside if they want to run with the big boys. The competition is simply ahead of Simplisafe in so many areas except ease of install, low cost monitoring and the built in cellular connection. If you are a techie person, you will be very dissappointed in this product. If you are not and want something simple and affordable, maybe this is the way to go. Overall, I would have to pass on the product.

Nice basic system with no contract required
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Home security system ever. Here is what comes in the box you get 1 base station, 1 keypad, 6 entry sensors, 2 motion sensors, 1 keychain remote, 1 yard sign and 2 windows decals. This set up lets you set up a nice size house. The square footage on my house is 1900 and I had no issues. Plus you can always add other sensors to meet your needs. Installation was very easy and the directions where clear which helped with making the installation easy. Set up took me about an hour. The base station that powers the system is a 10.5 inch tall large white plastic cone that glows to tell you that the alarm is on and pulses when there is an error with a sensor. What I liked best about the base is that there is a sim card that allows cellular communication for monitoring instead of a landline which is great since I no longer use a landline. Keypad installation was easy too. No wiring was required, I just peeled off the backing and stuck the keypad to the wall. The manual says that you can even change where you place the keypad and move it too a new resident too. The keychain also doubles as a USB drive and if you have a PC, you can plug it in and use the Easy Setup wizard to configure your system. There are three modes for activity monitoring. You can use home mode which activates door and windows sensors. Away mode which activates both the entry sensors and the motion sensors. Test mode lets you set up the system and to check that all sensors are working. When you arm the alarm and a sensor goes off, you have 30 seconds to enter your pin. If you sign up for their service, and you do not enter it, the sirens go off from the base unit and sends an alert to SimpliSafe. They will call you and ask for your safe word. If you don't provide the safety word, the police are sent to your house. If you pay the monthly fee, you have access to SimpliSafe's online dashboard to control your system. The Dashboard also lets you view your System Event Log, change your PIN, assign up to four guest PINs, and choose an optional Duress PIN. From here you can adjust entry and exit delay time, manage and rename sensors and change the siren volume. There is a mobile app too for Android and iOS. You will need to pay for the plan to have access to the app. The app basically lets you turn the system on or off and view your system event log. There are many different types of service plans, but if you don't want to pay a monthly fee you can use your SimpliSafe as a local alarm and it is up to you to contact the police. Where it can come in handy is if you have teenagers and you can set up entry sensor by a door where your liquor cabinet is and you will be notified each time the cabinet is accessed. You can even add cameras to the system. In the end here are my pros: This is a good price for hardware and monthly monitoring when you compare to other products There is no monthly contract required. Installation was quick and easy Works with Nest Smart Thermostat The system is easily expandable and customizable Battery Backup Cellular connectivity Cons: Mobile app is pretty basic- hopefully updates will improve this Hardware is a looks a little dated You won't be logged out from the online dashboard after inactivity Nest is the only third party device that it integrates with. Only use SimpliSafe add ons- cameras, etc If you want to monitor and secure your home from anywhere and not spend a ton of money this is a great system.

Extremely Easy, Flexible with a Minor Drawback
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The two main reasons I never had a security system in my current house were. One, wiring a 5-bedroom house is no easy task. Two, be tied to contracts is not my thing. SimpliSafe gets rid of both issues. Yes, there is the option of paying a monthly fee, which I recommend to make it a truly home security system, but there is no contract and it works in its simplest form without that option. Setup was a breeze. I did not time how long it took to install the 11 pieces of my kit but it felt like 15 minutes or less. It is so simple that even my 8-year old daughter could do it. No wires other than plugging the base station to a power outlet. After placing the sensors and browsing the option on your computer by using the included USB key - which is also a remote to arm/disarm the alarm - you just select your settings using the wizard and move the key to the central station thus updating the existing settings. It could not be simpler than that. One of the features that I love is that you can choose PINs for different needs. For instance, you can have your main PIN to control the alarm and change settings, another to call the police silently in case somebody forces you to turn the alarm off, and a few others to give to somebody who needs access to your house but should not be able to make changes to the system. The other nice feature is the voice feedback from the base station. Speaking of base station, it can be placed wherever you want as long as you make sure cellular signal is available there. My main dislike with the design is the white plastic look but it blended well with my window frames although not with my doors. My set didn’t include a camera which can be added but if you do add one, make sure you pay for their services so you can monitor your home using your smartphone or computer, and it didn’t include a siren which I think should be standard since the base station is not very loud. You should make sure it is located where you can hear it. You can purchase and add the siren later, of course. Overall, it is a great system with quick and easy setup. So flexible that you can easily take it with you if you move to another house. I gave it a 4- instead of 5-star rating based only on the plastic look and because it does not include a siren but I am happy with it and would still recommend it to anyone.

A Security System for the digital age
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't had a security system for over 20 years. The last one I had needed to be installed by pros and hard-wired throughout the house. It's amazing to see how far security systems have evolved. SimpliSafe Defend is an elegant solution for home security. Everything you need is in a box. The instructions were very clear. Installation suggestions were included so I didn't have to question where the security points needed to be placed. Connectivity to my home wireless network was fast and easy by way of the App. The monitoring service fee is offered at a fair price - especially when I consider what I paid for similar service 20+ years ago. I find myself checking the App constantly just to see what's going on around my home. SimpliSafe has created a very elegant and easy-to-use system for home security.

SIMPLE SYSTEM THAT WORKS GREAT
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SimpliSafe security system is Super Simple to set up and very easy to use! The look of the components of this system, to me, compare to older systems but ONLY aesthetically speaking because these are obviously more HI-Tech than they look! The base unit plugs into any wall outlet for ease of hiding it anywhere you'd like in your home and contains back-up batteries in the event of a power failure so that the unit will still be operational for 3-4 days and of course will automatically recharge when your power has been restored. -The Base unit also has a built-in 105db alarm which you can program it to either sound or not when an alarm condition has been met AND you can even program an alarm delay of up to 250 seconds which will certainly come in handy in the event of a "False Alarm" giving you the needed time to disarm before going off and (if you pay for the service) having the Police called. -Base Unit can also handle up to 41 sensors linked to it for ease of expansion. -All of the included sensors are wireless and run on internal batteries which are claimed to run for several years, Giving you peace of mind for sure. -ALSO each of the sensors can be programmed independently with delay times or instant alarm. This is a great feature for me! -After installation, all of the sensors worked very reliably for their intended purpose. -The Keypad: -You set your Master Code for it. The Master Code allows you to not only arm & disarm the system but also access all settings. -You can also set up to 4 additional "Guest Codes" which will be capable of arming & disarming the system, but will not be allowed to access the settings! Overall this is a great system and works as intended but DOES NOT come with any cameras -Nor is it compatible with Z-Wave or Zigbee smart home systems BUT You do not need to sign up for any long term monitoring service contracts. You have a couple of choices of low priced month-to-month subscriptions available. I'd recommend if you want a good, inexpensive & reliable security system where you don't really care about the lack of cameras or connecting to your other smart home systems

Good for someone with neighbors and thin walls.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have the SimpliSafe Defend 11 piece system, which comes with a base station, Keypad, keychain, 2 motion sensors and 6 door/window sensors. I did not purchase any of the no contract monitoring plans, so I cant comment on it. Some of the things I like about it are that It was easy to install and configure right out of the box. Every sensor connected to the base station and worked flawlessly. Aside from that, I really couldn't find anything else I liked about it. My first disappointment was that the motion sensors are supposed to be mounted in the corner of the room, about 5 Ft from the ground. This puts the sensor at eye level which makes it an eyesore for just about everyone. Furthermore, the entire system looks like it was produced with design cues from 10 years ago. My next disappointment was that it didn't come with a separate siren. The base station does have a speaker on it but it's not very loud. When I tested the alarm I could barely hear it in my basement or upstairs bedroom. Next was the app, it does not work or do anything for a stand alone system. I was unable to use it because I don't pay for the service. With all that being said, if you have a small apartment or townhouse and are looking for a cheap stand alone system, this probably will work for you. If you are in a single family home it's pretty much worthless without the service because your neighbors won't hear it.

Awesome Customer Service
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me just say SimpliSafe has some of the best on point customer service I've come across. After setting up my system, more on that in a second, I had to call customer service for some help in getting the cellular connection working for communication and monitoring. Not only was the time I spent waiting limited (under 5 mins.) but I got a very knowledge Customer Service agent who was able to quickly determine that the GSM T-Mobile connection they were using would not work in my area with limited information from me, but had an order processed for a Verizon Module at no cost next day air processed and ready. I know this sounds under whelming, but the fact that they didn't waste my time and solved my issue above and beyond what I was expecting, without any prompting from me was wonderful. In my mind this is how customer service should be, and because of this simple interaction they have a customer for life, just because finding a company who cares about the customer and trains there agents to solve problems quickly is rare. For this I'm already very happy with my System. With that gushing out of the way, lets look at he system as a whole. ***Setup*** Setup is very easy, they include a wireless key to arm and disarm the system that also acts as a USB Key with directions. While you can follow the directions included use the guided tour on the USB key as it will also help setting your Pin and everything else and transfer the settings directly to your base unit without you having to do anything. So use the guided tour. Basically it will walk you through attaching your various sensors. Its very simple and they include extra 3M Strips if you need to adjust as well as screws if you want something more secure. The only wire in the system is the power cord for your base station, everything else is battery powered and wireless. Setting up and testing was simple, though I recommend a second person to make testing the sensors are functional easier. The kit comes with enough sensors to get you started and cover a moderate sized house, and since once you enable the sensors they auto pair with the base station, setup is easy as deploying them. I did wish the kit came with one smoke detector however. Basically my complaint is more sensors, but for a starter kit this is great and additional sensors aren't expensive. I love that there is no wiring and using 3M Strips I can adjust my coverage any time. Or since they are wireless I can also alarm things like private drawers and get private alerts, handy if you have nosy roommates, you can get alerts if someone messes with your stuff. Now the system can just be used as a standalone system, but I do recommend setting up an account with them for monitoring and try it for a month. Since they don't have any contracts its no risk. If you don't like it or the app, you can drop and still at least have something to make some noise that will get the neighbors to look. ***Use*** Once setup using it is easy, either with the keypad or the app. The app does have a nice feature where you can setup private alerts as I noted above. Arming/disarming is easy, either with the keyfob or keypad or app. The system works so far for the few days I've had it. I do like the app since its new I might forget to arm it in the morning and I can just click a button and know it armed via the app saving me a worrying day. Overall this is a great way for anyone to get an alarm setup in there house with monitoring quickly and easily, plus, at least for me, my customer service interaction was great, what it should be and usually isn't, so I really feel like this system overall is a winner.

Great product and easy setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this kit. I think I have always been intimidated by the daunting task of installing or having a home security installed. However, I have always wanted one. This kit was my testing answer. I have a couple of issues but I am sure those are my errors more than the products. More about those in a second though. Out of the box, the user manual was easy to read and understand. I first started with the motion sensors. The sensors reach 30' out with a 45 degree (when upright) downward angle look. They suggest if you have pets that cannot get to a height of 5' to turn the unit upside down so your fuzzy friends can run around without recourse. There are nonabrasive self-sticking command strips for a no drilling required installation (however, if need be hardware is included for every device). Next, I did doors and windows with the same ease of use as before. The windows were a bit trickier due to window seals and trims. I then set the base tower and keypad up and was up and running. The longest part was a very nice transition back into "Those" couple of items. I took no stars away because other options are available. Meaning, the first was the downloaded video tutorial... never did work for me and I messed around with the computer files for almost an hour? The keypad is not backlit (at least my model). To remedy this I moved the keypad right next to a light switch (clever, I know). Finally, the command strips did not stick to most of my walls that have textured surfaces. Again, there was a solution that I choose the latter of; which was drilling or choosing a different wall / area. Overall, I am completely satisfied and will be purchasing at least one or two of the additional add-ons.
I would recommend this to a friend
