Great addition to the SimpliSafe System

I’ve been wanting to put a smart lock on our back door to allow us to let people in when we’re away, as we often have guests or pet sitters come by when we’re out. We have a few spare keys that we pass to our regulars, but for other visitors or one-off helpers it didn’t always make sense to get them a set of keys beforehand. Thus, when I found out SimpliSafe had a smart lock that could integrate with the security system which we already have, and pay for the monitoring, I had to pick one up to try. Pros: - Easy to install. - Retrofits an existing single cylinder lock. - Works with SimpliSafe Security system. - Modern Look. Cons: - If the doors deadbolt is not aligned with the slot perfectly, the lock will have issues locking. - Keypad only comes in black, which will get cooked in direct sunlight. - Requires the SimpliSafe system to use. Installation & Setup: Setup was easy, with two ways to proceed with a step-by-step guide: Included Paper or the SimpliSafe App. Both covered the same steps with clear pictures and instructions to install the Smart Lock. Adding the device to your system will require you to use the SimpliSafe app, but you can click through all the prior steps if you use the paper setup guide. This is a retrofit style smart lock, which uses the existing deadbolt mechanism to add a smart lock function on the inside of the door. This works with most single cylinder deadbolts. You remove the internal thumb turn and replace with the included mounting plate that is attached to the back of the smart lock. Then add the right thumb turn adapter to the tailpiece on the inside of the deadbolt. After that, simply slide the Smart Lock device onto the mounting place and secure in place using the wing clips. Done. By far, one of the easiest installs I’ve done is for locks and looks modern on the door. You really cannot tell from the outside besides if the keypad is installed. Adding the lock to the SimpliSafe system to be able to use the smart features is simple, if you were not already using the app then open it up and select the 3 lines options, then select the “Add Device or Camera”. Select the Smart Lock and navigate through the setup instructions. It would be nice if you could skip the installation steps to get straight to pairing, but I was not able to. There are some calibration steps, which seemed to help the door figure out how much force to use, but the lock didn’t have issues on the first few tries. I did have some issues later in the week with the deadbolt not properly aligning unless I pushed the door in a little, this was after the temperature dropped quite a bit. I’ll have to do some adjustments to the door, but I figured out my overall door is a little warped which caused the issue. So not a knock against the lock, but something with the door. App: The Smart lock works well with the app and system, it locks automatically when you are the system or after a set time if you enable the auto-locking. I do wish the interface for locking/unlocking was more intuitive, you must click on the little blue deadbolt image to lock and unlock. It’s not the worst, but it doesn’t really feel good for me. Unlocking/Locking: The included pin pad can be attached via 3M sticks, but because it is black plastic, which if it is in direct sunlight, it will get hot and probably will fall off whatever it is stuck to. The placement for my door puts it in direct sunlight most of the day, so I will most likely end up screwing the pin pad to the door so it will not fall off. For now, the 3M stick is holding. So far, I’ve really enjoyed using the pin pad to lock and unlock the door. It has made going in and out much simpler. If the system is armed, then the pin pad will also disarm the system when unlocked, which is a nice feature. I do wish I could also arm the system from the pin pad, but I can also do both from the SimpliSafe app instead. As I found out throughout the last week Unfortunately for me, my door is just warped enough, that I need to adjust the hinges to get the lock to close on its own. This is not a knock against the lock, though the only thing I wished was that the lock was a bit more powerful to be able to push the deadbolt in if it wasn’t perfectly aligned. I will probably play around with the calibration to see if I can get it to work a little better. Conclusion: If you have the SimpliSafe security system, then this is a great addition to making the security system a little smarter, though your experience will really depend on the door more than on the smart lock. For anyone with a SimpliSafe, I would recommend picking up this smart lock as it’s easy and works with integration into the security system. If you don’t want a smart lock that requires a whole security system to work, then I would recommend looking for something more standalone.

The SimpliSafe Smart Lock Series 2 is easy to install and easy to use, and works great with our SimpliSafe’s Home Security system. First the lock comes with easy to follow: instructions, 4 AA batteries, Mounting plate, tailpiece adapters, PIN pad, release tool, deadbolt screws and wood screws. A Philips screw driver is needed to do the job and the SimpliSafe application. When arming the SimpliSafe system the lock automatically secures the door. The lock also has an auto lock function so when we open and close the door, it will lock by itself, and this is optional it does not have to do it. One of the best features we like is how easy it is to open the door, we can unlock the door using the PIN pad, as well as using the SimpliSafe app and finally using the key that our deadbolt had in the first place. And with the SimpliSafe App we can open the door from anywhere we are, for example if visitors or guests get there before we do, then we can disarm the system and open the door remotely. And we can lock the door from far as well, so we do not have to guess if we locked the door or not. I have done it a couple of times, wonder if I locked the door or not, I do not have to guess any longer, I can check and lock the door from the app, The application is also useful since it notifies us when the door is locked or unlocked, so we know when someone got home safe. As for the installation, it is easy to do and the instructions are easy to follow and Simplisafe even has a video to watch on how to do it. We really like having the Smart Lock, we like the color that goes well with the door, the installation was easy and the application is user friendly. Just know that the lock does require the SimpliSafe Home Security System as well as a single Cylinder deadbolt.

We've been customers of SimpliSafe for over 10 years now and have always found their equipment and accessories to be among the best available. I have no idea why we didn't go for their smart locks sooner, but I wish we'd done it a LONG time ago! I do almost all of my own work and repair around the house, so this type of install isn't something I'd ever be intimidated by, but the install was even easier than I anticipated. If you can turn a screwdriver, you can install this without any issue. The instructions included in the box are very easy to follow and, if you prefer, the same steps can be followed in the SimpliSafe app and, if you run into a significant issue, allows you to get help from someone quickly. Once we made it through the install process, the lock calibrates itself by rotating a few times and then it's done. Adding the lock to our system took maybe a few minutes and we were all set. Installing the remote keypad is also very easy and I love the option of hard mounting the keypad if that's something you'd like to do. I'm going to see how well the included command strips hold up to being outside before committing to the hard mount option but I like that it's available. I also love that we were able to just keep the lock we have and not have to run out and buy things to complete the install. As far as function, I love having the ability to remotely lock and unlock our front door from anywhere. We can open the door for friends or neighbors or for package drop offs or lock up if we forgot on our way out the door. It's nice to have that peace of mind. I do have one VERY small gripe that's really just a quality-of-life issue. The included key that you have to have to open the keypad to change the batteries is very small and it would be awesome if it could be stored in the lock so that it doesn't go missing. Otherwise, I'm extremely happy with this product in every single way.

About five years ago, I switched my alarm company to SimpliSafe. I like the price but mostly I was attracted by the simplicity of installing and growing the system throughout my house. Among the many accessories, I consider the SimpliSafe smart lock series 2 as the gate guardian of the house. This smart lock was replacing the previous version, SimpliSafe smart lock series 1, which made installing it a breeze from previous experience. Even if it’s your first time, the intuitive app guides you through every step and it is incompatible with most deadbolts. I like its design with squared corners that give it a modern look. Compared to the old model, the battery cover slides to the right instead of upward which is a big improvement in my opinion. It is also well built with a hard plastic shell that is smooth to the touch. Once installed, it quickly connected to the base station and after a short update, it was ready to go. The SimpliSafe smart lock Series 2 met my expectations. It comes with a keypad that you install on the outside against the door, either with the included tape or secured with the provided installation screws and base. The keypad is responsive and the numbers light up making it easy to use at night. Through the app, this smart lock is easily customizable with features such as auto-lock, setting up limited access for guests complete with an activity log. The deadbolt motor is powerful enough to assure a complete lock at every try. The smart lock is powered by 2 AA batteries which is half what the previous version required. So far, the battery is holding well and we use it a lot as there are four people in the house and a dog being walked outside 4 to 5 times a day. With the smart lock series 2, SimpliSafe has hit the right spot. The experience provided by the previous smart lock, which was already very good, has made the series 2 a winner. It’s easy to install, it’s user-friendly, it works perfectly within the SimpliSafe environment and makes me feel secure, it’s well built and it looks great. If you’re a SimpliSafe user, don’t hesitate to give it a try and you won’t be disappointed.

Another great device to add to SimpliSafe system

I've had SimpliSafe product(s) and service for over four years, and it is my primary go-to home security system. All their devices are affordable, have many different types of sensors, and are extremely easy to add to your main panel(system). The design is black matte with a squared design case. The outer keypad is a black hard plastic case and is oval-shaped. The knob case uses four double A (AA) batteries, and the keypad uses two small (coin size) CR2450/3V batteries. The keypad comes with double-sided tape for easy attachment, and there is the option of using two screws. The installation guide is straightforward to follow, with good instructions and diagrams. Installation only took me about twelve minutes. Adding the smart lock to my existing SimpliSafe system took me less than five minutes. It's amazing how easy and quick it is to add new devices/sensors to my security system. Auto lock setting sets a timer for the smart lock to automatically lock the door when it detects that the door is unlocked and closed; the optons for auto lock are: Disabled, 30 sec, 1 min, 5 min delay. The entire home security system alarm is on/activated/home mode; there is the option for the door to lock automatically. This option is valuable because other household members often forget to lock the garage door after setting the alarm. Overall, I am delighted with my new smart lock and its added protection to my home.

I couldn’t be happier with the SimpliSafe Smart Lock Series 2. Installation was a breeze—it took me just 10 minutes to set up. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and syncing the lock to the SimpliSafe station was easy ( I already had a system install ). I haven’t tried it without a SimpleiSafe system but I think it will work fine. I was worried this lock wouldn’t fit my door, however it comes with multiple adapters, making it compatible with almost any deadbolt. I was impressed by the thoughtful backplate design. I didn’t need to drill hole in the door. If fits well and just works. The included keypad Is another great addition. I mounted it outside (can drill a hole or use the double sided tape) and gives us another way to unlock and disarm the alarm.. Both the app and the keypad work well. The best part is I keep my current deadbolt lock and key access. The deadbolt operates incredibly smoothly, adding to the overall solid feel. If you’re looking for a smart lock that’s easy to install, works seamlessly, the SimpliSafe Smart Lock Series 2 is your answer. Highly recommended!

Just what you need if you have a SimpliSafe System

I’ve been a member of the SimpliSafe family for a very long time now. I have wired cameras, wireless cameras, and a SimpliSafe Gen 3 Security system complete with a ton of entry sensors, motion sensors, and sirens. I rate it very highly, even though the monthly cost has been increasing slowly but surely over the last few months. Having had several competitor alarm systems that 10 years ago were charging nearly twice what SimpliSafe charges now for their monitoring, I really can’t complain too much. When the opportunity arose to review the Smart Lock, I jumped on it. I have two security items in my house that aren’t SimpliSafe: my doorbell (I have a Ring doorbell, which was heads and tails better than the old SimpliSafe doorbell I had) and my door lock. My old electronic lock was made by Yale, and even though it is only a year or so old, it constantly drops WiFi, occasionally stops working, and overall has been a disappointment. Enter the SimpliSafe Smart Lock (Series 2). Unlike other smart locks I’ve had, the SimpliSafe Smart Lock has the keypad on a separate unit that screws in or can be adhered to your door jamb. The lock itself requires a dead bolt with key be installed already on the door. If you have an electronic lock Iike I did, with the key built into the lock itself, the SimpliSafe Smart Lock is not going to work for you. I ended up having to steal a keyed single cylinder deadbolt off of my back door to get the SimpliSafe Smart Lock installed until I could go buy another singled cylinder keyed deadbolt. Kind of a pain, but the box does warn you of that when you buy it. I just didn’t see it until I got everything out of the box and tried to install it. Installing the Smart Lock onto the existing deadbolt (once I had it installed) was relatively easy. SimpliSafe includes a small instruction manual in the box, and you can also scan a QR code and get walked through a nice series of videos that show you how to install. Hardest part was getting the lock to talk to my base station. I was trying to add the lock via the SimpliSafe app, and it did not let me. Kept taking me to the internet and the videos for installation. Finally, I looked it up on Google and figured out you add the Smart Lock via the keypad. Once I did that, everything went smooth as glass. I assigned the lock to the front door, synced it with the entry sensor for the front door, and then operated it no issue via the app. The only other challenge I had (I couldn’t find any directions for it) was figuring out how to program the keypad. Finally, not able to find any instructions, I typed in a 4-digit code on the keypad, hit lock, and it locked the door. I then punched in the 4-digit code again and it unlocked. I don’t know what I would have done if that hadn’t worked… But it did so good to go. In conclusion, the Smart Lock Series 2 is the perfect device if you are heavily invested in the SimpliSafe family and have a Gen 3 security system. The device works like a dream, and other than the installation difficulties, I have nothing bad to say about it. A solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I've had more smart locks than I can even count at this point, and they all have their individual issues (why is that?). Each one also seems to require their own ecosystem to use (in some way) though some are less reliant on that ecosystem than others. This is another such. Packaging: To start, the packaging is no frills and straightforward, the lock itself only attaches to the inside portion of your deadbolt making it more compatible with various other keys and locks out there, not having to replace both sides of the deadbolt also keeps a consistent look outside of your house if that's your aim. Looks: I love that the inside of the lock can be white. I hate that the keypad is black only. Why market something in white if the keypad is still black? I do love that the inside deadbolt doesn't take away from my aethetic, but why is the outside still black? Functionality: As mentioned, the lock requires the Simplisafe system, so if you are not part of the ecosystem, this is not for you. It pairs easily enough and 'just works', you can assign individual locking codes, and for the most part it all works very well. I don't love the idea of keeping up with two sets of batteries (other systems that have the integrated keypad has the one set of batteries in the unit which powers the lock and the keypad, not to mention the keypad uses coin cell batteries while the lock uses AAs). I also struggle with locks that if your door alignment is even the slightest bit off you'll be unable to lock your door automatically, it seems like the motors should be more powerful as I would argue that the vast majority doors aren't perfectly aligned. Overall: It's great if you have simplisafe so you don't have to find another lock (and possibly ecosystem) to add a smart lock to your house, but there's a few things that could just be 'better' (colors, motor, not multiple types of batteries).

Super simple simply safe product. At first I was skeptical about the product initially thinking that it eliminated the key on the outside. But that was incorrect. The key on the outside stayed. Let's get into setup. So first and foremost make sure you know how to open a door lock and know the various parts are. If not go and learn on a streaming platform or get a handy person to do this install. Also make sure you look at the type of lock you have and handle set you have to make sure it is compatible. Take the package out and parts and remove all of the battery tabs. After that remove the inside part of the lock cover to expose the pin. Look at the instructions to see which adapter to use. It is color coded for ease of use. Put the base plate adapter on and secure with the hardware needed. Then put the adapter on the pin. Secure the simply safe housing and push the 2 securing tabs and you are all set on the inside. Make sure you level the housing using a level if needed. Next stick the outside key pad. After that slide open the inside battery panel push the setup button and open the app and follow the on screen setup steps and you are all set. Operation is nice and easy through the app and at the door. No complaints.. On screen app is easy to use to remote operate the lock. So overall easy to install easy to use.... Great ads on to the simply safe system. I would recommend this product if you are looking to add on to your simply safe product.

After many, many years with a "traditional" security system, I switched to an all wireless SimpliSafe system when it was first introduced. Throughout the years, I've upgraded as SimpliSafe offered more products and capabilities. This SimpliSafe Smart Lock (series 2) is a great addition to my household's SimpliSafe ecosystem. First, setup was almost amusingly simple. Pull the batter tab and press a button and you're connected! Same for the keypad. Installation was a little bit challenging, but that's mostly due to the door and doorframe I installed this smart lock in. The lock itself requires and existing deadbolt which I had to purchase separately as the existing deadbolt was a non-smart (?) older battery powered keypad lock, not connected to anything. The doorframe must not be "standard" as I had a really challenging time getting the lock to catch with the catch plate prodided by SimpliSafe (see red circle in image). However, once the installation was complete, it was a HUGE upgrade to our home and security. The lock seamlessly integrated with all our existing SimpliSafe keypads, cameras, motion sensors, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, etc. Using the SimpliSafe app, it was easy to program the lock specifically to how I wanted it to operate - automatically lock when door is shut, when set to away, etc. Super simple, SimpliSafe smart lock - 10/10! Would definitely recommend!

I've used quite a few different smart locks and this is pretty decent I think. It's controllable with your smart phone and has some decent features that will make this a nice addition to your place. Installation is fairly straight forward. You can use your existing deadbolt with this which is a huge bonus. I've used ones that replaced your deadbolt and have a keypad or something to unlock your door. I won't be going that route ever again since, once the battery dies in that keypad, very good chance of being locked out of your place. A previous one I had did just this and, long story short, I had to get a locksmith to drill out the "smart" lock to the tune of $500. I recommend getting a smart lock that allows you to still use your existing key/deadbolt specifically for this reason. Once installed, you will need to pair it up with your base station. This one takes only the newer one from Simplisafe so be sure you have a compatible base station to use with this. Once paired, you can set the passcode on the included keypad as well as other useful features. My only gripe with this lock is, when installing it, the unit is very loose. I can move it by hand even though everything is screwed down tightly. I can move it a fair amount which is some concern for me. It doesn't seem to affect the locking mechanism but, still, really wished it wasn't so shoddily attached to the deadbolt. I would've preferred some other way to mount the lock to the door (via screws or something) to address this. For now though, it seems to be fine

SimpliSafe is one of those brands that aren't flashy or super technical. But they work. And they work well. The quality of this Smart lock, much like they're general line-up of products, feel cheap. And they will not stand up to a tumble. This smart lock system is easy to install and it works really well with SimpiSafe security system. So arming my home and locking up is as simply as a press of a button. It's a clean design that fits any esthetic or decor. So it shouldn't stick out, even if you've got a particularly unique color scheme (This is actually important people). That being said. It comes back to style over substance. Everything comes ready to use. The deadbolt has batteries already pre-installed. The keypad is also packed and ready. Talking about the keypad for a moment. I found that this feels almost toy-like. It gives off Fisher Price: My First Smart-lock vibes. The number protrude out from the base pad and will show wear after continuous use. Casting fading, worn buttons and eventual, malfunction, of used outside. This would, in my opinion, do well in an interior system, but the pad would still experience wear, because of the rubbery design. When really makes this approachable is the all around affordable aspect that SimpliSafe brings. I recommend this for homes on a budget. But i would still upgrade as soon you're able.
