Great concept but you can scan the same exact spot 5 minutes later and get a wildly different result. Would be a handy tool to give a mild idea of improvements being made but at a much lower price. For the cost I would expect more consistency.

I tried to load the batteries the first time but it didn't work at all. I checked the contacts for the loading process and they are poorly made and there is not contact possible.

This is the second version of this type of device from Skulpt and it's a marked improvement over the original. Excellent battery life, easy to see light indicators, improved rubberized texture of backing. The Skulpt team is constantly trying to improve the associated smart phone app. I've found it to be accurate when compared to other body fat percentage measurement methods and provides the added benefit of individual body part scans to help direct training efforts.

I had trouble getting it to read my body fat percentages accurately. There's no way that I could have 46% body fat and weigh 135 at 5'4".

Great device for measuring fat and muscle quality

I've been using the new Chisel for a few weeks now with the new version of the Skulpt app. It's definitely an improvement over the previous AIM device, and cheaper too. But fundamentally it uses the same technology to measure fat and muscle quality through Electrical Impedence Myography (EIM), which basically sends some electrical impulses through one side of the device, through your skin, and measures the results on the other side of the device. And based on the results they can sort out how much body fat you have at that location, and an indication of the quality of muscle. Then if you sample a few points you can get a good idea of what your overall body fat percentage is.
The Chisel works under the control of your smartphone, so you'll need either an iPhone or Android device with Bluetooth. You touch a body location on your phone, place the Chisel and it gives the results. The Chisel's sensors need to be moistened as well for good contact with the skin. Basically it takes about a minute to measure the three locations that give you an overall body fat percentage. The new Lithium Ion battery solves the problem of the original AIM device that wouldn't keep a charge very long.
Based on the readings you take, the app will make suggestions on caloric intake to obtain a more ideal body fat percentage. Pretty simple, and overall it seems pretty accurate. I would say if you're a fitness enthusiast you'll want one of these since just going by measurements and the scale really doesn't tell the full story. You need to know your body fat percentage as well. It's innovative, it's based on years of advanced research, and they've brought it to the public in a form that is easy to use and understand. I highly recommend it.

I use the skulpt chisel to perform a quick scan every morning right after jumping on the scale. After getting used to it, the reading changes by less than 1% each day, which makes me think it's fairly accurate. I've also compared my body to images on the web to gauge my body fat percentage, and the readings I get from the chisel are consistent with the images. I've used scales and handheld devices which can vary by 2-5% in a matter of minutes, so the consistency is a really good sign of accuracy in my book.
The only con I have for this device is that you have to use their dock to charge it, so you have to bring the dock and cable with you to charge while traveling. Since the device needs to be sprayed with water, it's probably safer for the device not to have an open port, so it makes sense, but is still a bit of a pain for long trips. That being said, it doesn't need to be charged frequently, so you can charge it before traveling if your trip is around a week long. It'll probably last even longer than a week on one charge, but I would bring the charger for longer than that to be safe.
Bottom line, I would buy this product again, and I highly recommend you do to if you're looking to track your body fat percentage. It's much cheaper than getting a dexa scan, and may be comparable in accuracy.

I bought the Chisel because I didn't think my Omron body-fat calculator or my body-fat scale were consistent enough to help me trend progress.
I love the Chisel because not only does it help me trend my body-fat but also lets me see where my strength training is working or needs more attention. Also based on the readings and trends I get recommendations on levels for protein, carbs and fat to help me reach goals. I also like the app as it is easy to use and helps prolong battery life by not being on the chisel screen. I have had no issues on how long a battery charge lasts. Overall I am very pleased with the chisel. I am still getting used to the live time scanning but like the ability to zero in on the best spot to place the sensor.

I must say, the Chisel is a significant improvement over the original Aim where it matters most: battery life with the Chisel is phenomenal and I have no issue getting an entire body reading done.
The accuracy remains accurate, but due to a change in algorithm recently both the Aim and the Chisel are now more accurate than they were before.
Strongly recommend this product to anyone who is trying to get a full grasp of their fitness and body.

I own both the original Aim and now the Chisel, they have increased battery life and made muscle density and body fat tracking even more thorough. Not a huge fan that the device screen is gone on this new model but it is easy enough to use when synced to your phone's skulpt app.
Overall the device does what it says, aside from missing the on device display I have no other gripes about it.

This little tool allows you to track your progress in terms of muscle quality and body fat %. IMHO this is most accurate device you can buy in market unless you are looking at some large professional xray or pod setup.
Taking readings at times can be annoying as there is little deviation for each subsequent reading. But real power of tool comes when you take data over time and see graphical trend of your journey.
I am removing 1 star only for the application which can improve greatly further , and i have no doubts that it wont.
Dont bother wasting time and energy on a bio-impedance weight scale as you can never get accuracy on your progress due to water weight rather use this little tool which is much more accurate. my weight scale says i am 8.5% and skulpt says i am at 16% which is more close to how i look at moment.

This item is awesome. I have been looking for amore accurate way to track body fat and muscle composition which up to now could only really benjoyed done through professional body scanners. This can be done dailyrics which for me is great as I can ensure I am reducing body fat at the right rates while cutting and also ensure that I'm not adding more than I want to during the off season. The app is good and great for tracking results. Highly recommended!

I've been using Skulpts flagship Aim for a year and love how it works & being able to track my muscle quality & fat %. Last week I started using the Chisel (which uses the same app as for my aim) & it's so easy to use, & the newest app updates are letting us get the most out of our tracking at an even better price point.
Anyone who is working hard to improve their body should get one, such a great feeling to see the Muscle quality numbers go up and the fat % numbers drop!

I use the 5x5 workout plan by stronglifts for the past 3 years, and purchased this unit. It does with its supposed to do. Measure accurate body fat and Muscle quality tissue. I love the varying results I get week after week. If you keep exercising intensely, this unit will do its job!! It will state whether your loosing fat, or gaining muscle, and you can adjust your workout program (neutral or metabolic) according to what the results are showing. IT WORKS!! Better than going to a hospital for that Diva testing ($150 a pop!!)

This is a great device for getting accurat body fat measurements. Before using the chisel I had to rely on a bathroom scale with body fat numbers that would vary greatly between measurements with no rhyme or reason. This product tracks each muscle in your body and displays your progress over time within the app. It's much more motivating to see accurate progress each day. Fantastic!
