It is a necessary part, and I would recommend that you change out the old one for this newer stainless one.

Refrigerator hose

Luckily it happened when someone was home and the water could be shut off quickly to it. This hose is not going to split.

Hooked my new fridge into the house water line so that the ice maker and water dispenser in the door function quite well. Glad that it's the metal version rather than plastic.

They knew what to do and how to install the waterline kit. They were efficient and thorough. The removed the old refrigerator and they cleaned up after they were finished.

Even if it's snake oil, it gives me peace of mine for a few dollars extra. Installation is fairly easy, just make sure your installer actually turns on the water! Mine didn't and had me wondering if my fridge was faulty.

We have whole house water filter system, used on old refrigerator. We had ample length to use existing water connection. If your water line is not at least as long as this one you will need this item.
