I've enjoyed this franchise since the PS2. The major draw and namesake of this game is the long distance sniping which, depending on your difficulty preference, can include fancy physics for gravity, wind drag, etc. Also, said sniping results in mortal kombat-esque x-ray visuals of how a bullet tumbles through a fascist's liver. The x-ray vision has now been expanded to include melee attacks so knives and brutal teeth shatters are viewable.
Each level is an open world in itself with huge areas to hide and duck. The enemy AI is sophisticated enough to know that a squad member is missing and should be sought after and if a body is found, to go on alert. I didn't experience any cheap AI where they could see you from a mile away and immediately zero in on your location like previous games. They now triangulate based on the noise you make or shots you take to find you. Tanks are more formidable and can no longer be taken out with a shot the gas can lid. PT boats can however which is good.
Completing missing and side missions garners you XP to unlock weapons and equipment for loadouts. No longer do you keep weapons you find in the field. I do miss the concept of switching out receivers and muzzles. Nice addition is silenced ammo for both the pistol and rifle.

I got this for a birthday present. Went into the training camp and even on the lower levels I was struggling to shoot enough targets well enough to pass the qualification. (I'm not a great shooter with a controller) So at that point I figured this game was a waste of money.
Figured I would give the actual mission a try, so I set it to "cadet" (remember, sucky controller skills). The actual missions were easier for me than the practice range.
Each time I played a level it started me at the same spot, but there were probably 3-4 different directions I could go to start engaging the enemy and work my way to the target, and multiple directions, including high and low routes through out the game. Not sure I could do a whole level the same way twice if I tried. I think it has good replayability, because I could go at it from different angles.
There are 4 difficulty levels. It is very doable, with a little effort, on level 1, even with my limited controller finesse. I have no doubt levels 2-4 would provide a good challenge for anyone.
The AI seems pretty good. (keep in mind, difficulty 1)
The enemy seems fairly realistic to noticing something if I'm in their view and not in cover. Thankfully if I duck out of sight, a lot of times they will just say "I thought I saw something" and go back to their pattern. There is a lot of cover to work with to keep from being spotted, which will probably be very important in higher difficulties.
There are also things like planes overhead, boats, church bells, etc. that make noise and if you can time your shots with them, they mask the gun shot and they aren't alerted.
One thing that disappoints a tiny bit is there are places you can't go. There are times where I thought I should be able to jump up there/across this, and I couldn't. That said, most games have some places that I wonder why can't I go there.
Each mission also has a lot of items to pick up (letters, orders, etc.) and several challenges, like eliminate all enemies, spend less than X minutes in combat (be way stealthier than me). So there are other goals to attempt to achieve, beside just the main objectives.

As usual, the latest in the Sniper Elite series is no disappointment. Sniper Elite 4 is a blast, and a challenge from beginning to end, and it left me wishing the next installment was due out next week. I love that the game is challenging without being ridiculously difficult, and the graphics in this one are amazing!
I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a great shooter with a great story.

Ok so before I bought this game I was looking at the reviews and was like ok they are not telling me enough so I bought it this game is a great stealth game I never played any sniper elite games but this one is so much fun it's not a open world game thank God but each level is so huge and big there is so many ways to take out the enemies slow mo shot x ray like mortal Kombat x or blow em up set up traps right now I'm playing on hard there Is a custom difficulty on here also the A.I on this game is actually a bit smart some are dumb but most of the time if you not sneaking being quite you will get killed this game takes patience I mean you can go loud but one thing this game messed up on is the cover system but once you get use to it it's nothing also the levels on this game will not take you no 30mins cause you die so fast once your found on hard anyways idk bout normal difficulty but levels can take around a hr or so depending on if your doing the side missions which I suggest you do makes the game even more fun there are so many enemies that can show up on one screen I think this game will be a hidden gem to me if you like stealth games like the new hitman then you will definitely like this game i Haven't got to the multiplayer part but I heard it's not all that but for single player it's well worth it the story not all that or the voice acting but gameplay is where it's at

I really love this game, I have the previous game for PS4 and 2nd part that came out for the Wii U. And this Edition does not disappoint, the graphics are amazing and the campaign is deep and engaging. The AI is complex and the game will challenge even season veterans. Don't think about it twice, just go out and buy this game.

Or at least, it is with my recommended way to play. Waiting for an enemy cannon to go of to mask your sniper fire while adjusting for bullet drop and wind resistance always feels incredible when you get the shot right and see the bullet reach it's target in slow motion. Of course, I also love that the game gives options to all sorts of players. You can hold your breath to slow time and show exactly where a bullet goes if you want to cause mayhem and there is ample opportunity to set traps as well. The levels are big, objectives can be tackled in any order, and multiple playstyles can work very well (except for guns blazing, automatic fire doesn't feel very accurate, powerful, or satisfying, but that's why this is called Sniper Elite after all).

What I like about this series is how they keep improving on the game, it's almost as if they listen to their fans! Such a good, go at your own pace, solo game with lots of replayability, if fact I play each mission a few times before moving on to the next.
The vast improvement is in the map sizes. Each area is large and you can attack from almost any angle. The gun range is also excellent, not only can you practice shooting, but try out each weapon, and then use your play score point to upgrade to the weapons you like best!
The game is also very user friendly, with several levels of difficulty, and the basic controller layout for most shooting games. You can also turn off the kill-cam for much less war gore.

Better than SE3; its fun to snipe away enemies squatting in the bushes and under rails, game is huge, requires at least 15 hours to finish. Enemy AIs are sometimes stupid.
Great graphics. And the x-ray finish, its satisfying :)
Maps and missions are lengthy to finish, takes patience to find the perfect vantage point for the perfect shot.
Kind of gets boring after a while, but again, a way to while away time. I wish it could be more like hitman, but then, sniper elite 4 is one in its own class, lots of stupidity and lots of fun :) Its an experience.

I gave it four stars because only the greatest of games deserves five stars. If you enjoy the Sniper Elite series, you will love this one. It's the best and biggest of them all. Great graphics. The sniping is the same as the last game but the maps are bigger and the AL isn't as buggy or stupid as the other games. I suggest you try playing on the hard level as I found it more fun and satisfying. You can always change the difficulty. Story and objectives are a bit bland but a very fun game tp play overall!

Amazing graphics, very enjoyable game. I feel very immersed in the experience and enjoy developing a strategies to complete missions. If you're a fan of the previous releases of this game, you'll definitely love this one, much tougher than the previous ones (based on the "hard" difficulty level)

This was my 1st Sniper Elite game. I bought it b/c all the previews had such wonderful colors and locations vs SE3's Africa setting which was all brown everywhere.
The game was fantastic. There are a variety of ways to take out enemies from your trusty sniper rifle to other methods such as traps, bombs, hand or machine guns etc. But the real joy of the game was the map design in my opinion. The maps are HUGE! And they are built in such a way that there are multiple avenues/loops/verticality to reach each location on the map. It was a real joy taking an extra hour or so just to wander the map to see all the locations in the game.
Definitely recommend if you like exploring beautiful locations in games and like stealth/action games. The game does require a bit of patience to play, this is not a typical run and gun first person shooter so be aware of that before you buy, but if you enjoy stealth definitely pick it up!

Good graphics and gameplay for ps4's debut of the series. Able to coplay and the sniper multiplayer mode is unique. At first I was denied preorder at store as it wasn't available on scan, but fortunately the day one edition does include the rifle skins and bonus mission

If you like the Sniper Elite series games, you'll love this installment. Similar mechanics to Sniper Elite 3 with much bigger maps, better graphics, & interesting missions. Has the signature "slow-mo" shot cams in all their gory goodness. Really enjoying this one.

The maps feel larger than previous in which there are 10. Has been taken about 3 to 4 hours per map. Provides challenges to return to the map after you complete it the first time.
