Extremely lightweight. Not a lot of padding for a laptop. Good space but not a ton of compartments for stuff

With this price, I will expect a lot more. A least more protection on the bottom of the backpack and the edge..

This is a pretty functional bag that is also a bit misleading in its size - in a good way. At first it looks a bit thin to really stuff it with anything, but you'll soon find that the bag expands quite nicely. It's the sort of bag that you can use it to carry your laptop and a quick change of clothes (if you fold them well) for an overnight trip.
The rear storage area has the most padding (coming from the back of the bag) and should probably only hold the primary laptop - particularly if it's on the larger side. The front storage area, as I mentioned earlier, expands and gives plenty of room for other items, including a tablet. That said, none of the storage areas or pockets have any special lining, so you're best to still use cases.
The front-most pocket is pretty typical for storage cables, chargers, etc.; and the case has bottle holders on either side. Finally, there's a "discreet" zipped pocket on the lower back of the backpack. It's not super large, but is a nifty touch.
The bag, overall, doesn't have a premium feel to it, but it does seem pretty sturdy. My only real nitpick is that I wish the bottom of the bag had a bit more padding, but otherwise it's fine.

The first thing you notice about the Solo Code Backpack is how light it is. And I love the minimal camo print on the front and inside lining.
The Code backpack has two larger compartments and a smaller zipper compartment on the front and a stealthy zipper compartment in the back which is perfect for a wallet or cell phone. There is a large rear compartment for your laptop - up to 17 inches. Then there is another space in the front main compartment to hold a tablet along with two smaller spaces to hold perhaps a pad and checkbook as well as several pens and pencils. There is plenty of space in this to hold chargers and a few books. Appearing a little smaller than my previous backpack, I was surprised to find that everything fit just fine. Oh, and there are elastic sides to hold your water bottles if you like. My only fault with the compartments is that there is not a hook inside or top loading zipper pouch to hold small things like change or thumb drives but I overcame this by getting a small zipper pouch and actually like keeping my smaller items in that.
The straps are comfortable and large enough for bigger folks like me. I also like that there is another strap on the back that allows you to slide the backpack over the handle of your rolling bags or luggage.
With the backpack being so light I did have a concern about build but Solo has a five year warranty on it.
The Solo Code backpack has become my go to pack and I highly recommend it.

Can Fit Any Laptop You Can Throw At It

I have been using the Solo - Code Pro Backpack for about a week. Overall, I think it is a great backpack with excellent features. Some of the things I like are the two separate compartments. One is for a laptop and the other is for everything else. The laptop compartment is huge and can fit any laptop you can throw at it. It has padding on all sides and since all my other stuff is separated my laptop doesn’t get all scratched up. The other compartment is also huge. I can easily fit another laptop, an iPad, Bluetooth speaker, go pro, backup battery, charging cables, headphones, and I still have room for more. There is also a hidden pocket in the lumbar area that is great for storing valuables and another pocket on the front for non-valuables. As well as drink holder pockets on either side. The backpack is very durable, lightweight and comfortable to wear, and easily fits under airplane seats and overhead compartments. I have officially made this my everyday wear backpack and I highly recommend it.

Transport for your 17" laptop

I am somewhat of a bag hoarder. I've owned and tried a lot of different bags - anything from the cheapest of bags to the highest of quality and budget. This bag is a great bag to use with the remaining two 17" laptop vendors. I have the Dell XPS 17 and it fits perfectly. It's snug and secure although I would not advise a drop as there just is not a lot of padding to absorb the fall. I don't think this bag is designed to handle falls though, I believe this bag is designed to transport without damage. Storage is a bit on the sparse side but you can add a few dongles, the AC power for the laptop, and a few small peripherals and that is about it. It does have two side pockets for bottles I'm assuming. There's also a hidden pocket for your phone, passport, or boarding pass. The shoulder straps seem to be the weak point of this bag and I could see them eventually failing over time. One glaring omission is the lack of a handle to accommodate a briefcase carrying style. As it is now, you're forced to use the straps or carry it using the top handle. I would like to have the option to carry my bag from any orientation. All in all, this is still a great bag and will transport your 17" laptop with no issues.

Tight, Sturdy, Lightweight with Deep Pockets

This is the third laptop backpack I have used in the past year, and I have found that each of these backpacks has advantages and disadvantages. The chief advantage of the Solo Code Pro Structured Backpack is its slim, lightweight design. It does not pretend to be an airplane carry-on suitcase like one of my other backpacks. It is clearly a backpack for a laptop and some accessories. Unlike my other two backpacks, it slides easily under the airplane seat in front of me. I love the two mesh side pockets for holding water bottles. My water bottle is 9.5" in circumference and it fits super-snuggly in either mesh pocket. This is a great improvement over my backpack whose top-zippered side pocket could not accommodate a water bottle or my other backpack whose floppy mesh side pocket failed to keep the bottle from falling out.
The main laptop compartment will accommodate up to a 17" laptop and nothing more. There are no extra pockets or extra room in this section. It does not fold down for TSA checkpoints, as the zippers open only half-way down and there is no extra inner pocket to secure the laptop. Sort of a shame, as the sleek design would have made it a perfect candidate for the TSA-ready feature. Extra items in the large space of TSA-ready backpacks tend to spill all over the place when the backpack is fully opened, and that would not have been an issue if the Solo Code Pro were TSA-ready. But it is not, so, either get TSA-pre or be prepared to remove your laptop from the Code Pro backpack.
The other zippered compartment in the front of the backpack does contain a deep inner pocket that can hold up to a 15" tablet, Chromebook, etc. On the outside of this large inner pocket are two very deep (10"x5") pockets. Opposite these are a not-so-deep 4.5" x 4.5" pocket and four pockets to hold pencils or pens. The space within this compartment is large enough for a change of clothes if you want to make this an overnight suitcase, but for me it will hold my laptop cables, headphones, external hard drive, and other accessories. Notably lacking are any small, zippered compartments, which on my first backpack were useful for holding small items like thumb drives. For small items you will want to purchase a separate large wallet or carry-all that can be stashed in the second compartment.
On the outside front and back of the backpack are two zippered pockets. The outside pocket on the front is 6.5" x 9". For some reason it zippers down the long side instead of from the top. It is hard to see an advantage or disadvantage to this design. It might be handy for your quart-sized TSA liquids bag. The other outside pocket on the back is 5" x 6.5" and also zippers from the side—perfect for secure storage of your passport.
I am very happy with the Solo Code Pro Structured Backpack and will use it for all future trips that do not require packing clothes and toiletries in my backpack. This will be almost every trip since clothes and toiletries really belong in your checked bag or carry-on suitcase. The sleek, lightweight Solo Code Pro Structured Backpack is perfect for your airline personal item.

From the outside, this is a very plain looking backpack, which I appreciate. The back has a bit of a black-on-black camouflage pattern, which is very subtle. The only label only says two things. The “Solo” is curious, since it is not red and does not look like it would hold beer from a keg. It also says “New York,” and I guess that I can forgive them for that. The only other adornment is a small near-black “S” logo on the black background. This is a subtle pack for those who don’t want to stand out.
The outside also features two mesh side pockets that are perfect for holding an umbrella and a water bottle. There is also a “hidden” pouch in the back that appears to go all the way across. But it is so narrow that I can’t get my hand all the way in there, so I suppose it is possible to have items fall so far back that you can’t get them without turning it sideways and shaking the pack. But this extra pocket is appreciated. The shoulder straps are nicely padded and are comfortable. There is even a thin strap along the back that can go over an extension luggage handle.
There is a zipper that opens the laptop area, and it seems very roomy. It practically swallows my ultrabook with plenty of room left over, and the padding seems nice and thick. There is even padding along the edges, which some cheaper bags omit, which should protect the laptop even if the pack itself is dropped. Very nice. The main compartment is VERY roomy and easy to get into. The dividers in there are made from a very thin material, and I would have preferred something a bit thicker, but time will tell how well it lasts. There is a “tablet” area, but it is huge. My 7” Amazon Fire tablet disappears in there. But I guess they can’t anticipate everybody’s tablet size. Stitched to the front of the tablet divider are two tall and skinny pockets that would be great for things like power cords and chargers. The opposite side of this compartment has a place to put pens and a small item like a mouse. Between these two sides there is plenty of space to put some larger items. Finally, there is a small zippered pocket on the very front, which is useful for something like a small notebook, journal, or slim paperback novel.
So, overall, this is a very nice backpack that seems versatile for a lot of people. If your laptop is big or small, if you are traveling light, or want to stuff in a couple of textbooks, then this should work.
