Sonic has always been at is prime in 2D, this game pays a wonderful tribute to the wonderful legacy that made Sonic one of the most famous platform games in the world.

Ok - first of all this game is PHENOMENAL and worth every penny. My only gripe is this bizarre box set - first and foremost, the game is DIGITAL-ONLY, so when you get this, you get a voucher to download the game digitally, instead of a physical game. I really prefer physical games so that bums me out. On the heels of that disappointment, this set includes a bunch of weird, random items… and NONE of them are anything I would have preferred over just a physical copy of the game!! Seriously - a statue of Sonic standing on a Genesis? I mean, kinda cool but… why? And the rest of the things are just as weird, and frankly, useless. This isn't rocket science - just give us the game, a unique box / art for the slipcase, and how about a CD of the INCREDIBLE in-game music??? Would that be so hard? Anyways -in summary, you should absolutely DEFINITELY buy this game, it's amazing, just make sure you like all the things that you get in the box set before you shell out for it. I think the set could have been better.

So my review is mainly on this collector's edition not on the game itself. First off the collector's edition is $70 (without gamers club) vs $20 on PSN, so you are paying $50 for the additional items. What you get and the quality of the items does not in any way justify the extra cost. The metal card is cool, and the golden ring has weight to it (so seems metal as well), but the thing I was after is the Sonic statue. This statue stands ontop of a life size Sega console (which is hallow), has fake buttons that don't even move and nothing is functional. The Sega cartridge doesn't even plug into the console just for show. Then it takes 2 AA batteries that play "Sega" when the batteries are put in, but haven't found a way to make it play it again without removing and re-inserting the batteries back in (as the console buttons don't move or do anything). Now lets move onto Sonic himself. He is a nice size and looks good, but just doesn't feel like they put enough effort into it. He can't be removed from the console, so that mesns everything is stuck together and leaves you with a pretty big item to display. All in all, is it worth the extra $50? Not even close, you will be better off getting the digital version for $20 off of PSN.
