Sonic Superstars being the next 2D Sonic game and is in 2.5D is an interesting choice. The multiplayer looked like fun (haven’t tried it but heard not so good things about it. Sonic Superstars was a fun time, but it has frustrations that couldn’t make it a favorite for me. The game overall looks visually amazing, oozing with color and character, love the animated intro and cutscenes. Seeing that being a trend with new Sonic games is really cool. The gameplay is typical 2D Sonic and they nailed the feel of the original Genesis games and Sonic Mania. Love the inclusion of the Chaos Powers when you collect the Chaos Emeralds and each has their uses for exploration and bosses. Every character is fun to play, especially Amy & new character Trip. Each Zone is unique and fun to explore in their own ways.
The story isn’t anything special either, it’s cool to see Fang come back after DECADES of absence, but his fights were underwhelming and annoyingly slow. Trip is a great addition to the cast of Sonic characters and I hope she returns! She’s a cute character and love her interaction with Amy in the story. Overall, it’s a basic stop Dr. Eggman story as usual.
HOWEVER, I have gripes. The music is a letdown compared to other Sonic soundtracks. They need to stop replicating the Genesis music and stick to what worked in Sonic Mania in terms of music. The bosses are probably the worst in the series. It’s a waiting game that takes too long to progress with hitboxes that are inconsistent… they drag the game down for me and felt janky to fight the majority of them…
Overall, Sonic Superstars is still at its core a good game but it is flawed. Not the worst in the series compared to other games in the series. I recommend getting it at a discount. I got it during Black Friday for $40, it’s not worth $60. That price is a HUGE ask for a Sonic game with major problems…

Sonic superstars is an ok game that is decent however not with friends. The chaos emeralds with there abilities are cool but not remarkable. The camera with friends is bad stretching it farther than Mr.fantastic. If you find the game cheap I don’t think it will be a bad play but the price it had when coming out indefinitely hurt its run.

If you grew up playing the original Genesis titles, Sonic Superstars is the modern sequel you’ve been waiting for. It captures that iconic "momentum-based" physics perfectly—something many 3D Sonic games have struggled with for years.
Why It’s a Must-Play:
Stunning 4K Visuals: On the PS5, the Northstar Islands look absolutely gorgeous. The colors pop, and the 2.5D art style feels fresh while remaining faithful to the retro aesthetic.
Classic Gameplay, New Powers: The addition of Emerald Powers (like climbing waterfalls or creating clones) adds a clever layer of strategy to the exploration without slowing down the action.
Play Your Way: Being able to swap between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy—each with their own unique abilities—gives the game a ton of replay value. Amy’s double jump is a lifesaver for tougher platforming sections!
Smooth Performance: Everything runs buttery smooth at 60fps, which is essential for a game built on speed.
While the boss fights can be a bit more challenging than in the past, the overall experience is a nostalgic "bop" from start to finish. It’s a fantastic pick for long-time fans and a great way to introduce younger players to the Blue Blur.

I really like Sonic superstars because I have a variety of gameplay and it has fun mechanics with the chaos emeralds. Also I can play with my friends and we always have a good time play it together. The levels are very unique in their own way which make each level a mystery which caused me to be excited and eager to play it even more.

Thankfully this Sonic game goes back to its roots by being a 2D style Sonic game rather then an open world and the like.I actually have the game for my Switch console as well but for $20 for the PS5 copy it was a no brainer. The gameplay is classic Sonic though instead of playing just as Sonic and Tails you have four characters to choose from each with the pros and cons. At the end it's a good addition to the Sonic game library and while there are two personal minor points that don't have me giving the game five stars it's still a great game to have in any gamers collection.

Game is definitely a lot of fun brings me back to the old days of playing sonic on the genesis. But this time with new graphics, though there is a couple things missing I wish they could’ve had added like tails following sonic. Attacking the bosses multiple times in a row instead of waiting for the boss fight to get ready to be hit. It just felt like a drag fighting the boss fights. Otherwise was truly a fun game

This Sonic Game is really good, it reminds me of the old Sonic game but with modern graphics. Gameplay if fluid and fast and the physics are very good. Love the music on the game as well, they marry each level so well.
A few levels could have been polished a little more but it does not take the overall quality of the game.
