    Unbelievable Sound

The Sonos 250W 2.1-Ch Amplifier is an exellent addition to your home theater setup. First, the build and packaging quality is very nice. Sonos packaged the amp in a small black box which holds the compact amp. The amp itself feels very high quality and can blend in on a shelf or be added to your audio rack. Setup of the Sonos amp was very simple. I simply connected my TV via the HMDI input on the back, then connected two of my existing Sony shelf speakers via the included banana connectors. Instantly, I could tell a difference man what a difference that was. Now I just need a sub to add to the setup to get in on the bass action. The Sonos also comes with two RCA inputs for your turntables or other sources that you might have. If you'd rather stream from your phone, the Sonos App seamlessly handles that from almost all music streaming services. The clarity that this amp can make is remarkable and really transformed the listening experience. In conclusion, I would very much recommend the Sonos Amp to anyone who is looking to boost the performance of their existing set of speakers. I can't speak for the "Sonos ecosystem," but I'm sure if you're looking at buying this Amp you are familiar with it and all the benefits it has. Pros: -Build quality -Design -Size -Sound quality -Features Cons: -Price (not needed for everyone)

Terrible. Nothing like the original product. Ongoing playback issues. Very frustrating. I even contacted the CEO directly, and still no resolution. After $1,000’s invested, no more SONOS for me. Stay away. They are not what they used to be.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the Sonos Amp and the lack of support you've received from customer care. It's frustrating when a product fails, especially right after the return period, and you're left without assistance. If you're still seeking a resolution, here are a few steps you can consider:

      Troubleshooting & Next Steps
      Check for Common Issues:

Power Cycle the Amp: Unplug the Amp, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Sometimes, this simple step can resolve issues.
Reset the Amp: If the device still isn't working, you might try a factory reset. Be aware that this will erase any custom settings:
Hold down the Connect button while plugging in the power cord.
Keep holding the button until the light flashes amber and white, then release.
      Firmware and App Updates:

Update the Sonos App: Ensure your Sonos app is up to date.
Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, a firmware update can fix bugs or connectivity issues. You can check for updates through the app.
      Reach Out Again:

Contact Sonos Support: Even if your previous experience was poor, it might be worth trying to reach out again.
Escalate the Issue: If initial support is unhelpful, ask for your case to be escalated to a higher-level technician.

      I hope this helps! john.milton

For this price, they should have made better app integration. The connection sucks where the app keeps forgetting the device. And i have to Literally reinstall and reconnect every single day.

Worked fine until Sonos upgraded the app controller and the old S1 app forced me to upgrade to S2. I can no longer listen to music continuously because the amp randomly turns off. Wasted over an hour on the phone yesterday with customer service and could not resolve the issue. I paid $650 for this amp in July 2020, paid for Best Buy geek squad to set it up and had them come out to try to “fix it” and it is now worthless to me.

Thank you for your feedback. If the Amp is shutting down that may be due to a wiring issue with the speakers, either connection wise or due to impedance incompatibility. If you have not already, our chat functionality on Sonos.com can be very helpful for support. john.milton

Hi, and thank you for feedback. The Amp is designed so that it can plug directly into the tv for sound so that you don't have to run it through the Apple TV. So you can use it with an HDMI cable from your tv. Let us know if we can help with the set up. Head over to sonos.com/support and you can reach out whichever way you prefer. john.milton

A Nice Upgrade Over the Connect Amp

Previously I had been using the Sonos Connect Amp in my bedroom to power my Sonus Faber Venere 2.5s for music. The Connect Amp is a great product so when I heard that Sonos had added an HDMI input and gave it more power I had to give it a try. I'm not disappointed. The new Sonos Amp provides the same great sound with the added bonus of receiving the Audio Return Channel (ARC) via HDMI from my TV. Now I get my typical on-demand audio driven by the Sonos app and it will automatically switch to the TV when I start watching. I was really pleased with the auto-switching characteristic as I was a bit afraid that I might have to manually switch in the app and that would really take a hit on the convenience factor for me. Plus you can pair the Sonos Amp with some Sonos bookshelf speakers for the rear and go surround sound thanks to the phantom center it can process. Despite the extra power I wouldn't say the Sonos Amp sounds much different than the Connect Amp. The two have a very similar sound signature thanks to their digital amps. Both offer subwoofer line-outs which makes sub pairing pretty painless. Plus, the Sonos Amp (like the Connect Amp before it) is great because you get to bring your speakers to to the Sonos party. All of the benefits of Sonos and potentially better sound (depending on the speakers). In my case, I had my Sonus Faber's sitting in storage until I got the Connect Amp. Instantly brought them back to life and now they get more usage than they ever had before. My only complaint is that it is a much bigger footprint than the Connect Amp and only comes in black which makes it a real dust magnet. Neither of those are significant enough for me to deduct a star though. If you already have some great speakers and want to jump into the world of Sonos then the Sonos Amp is the way to go. Especially if you want to meld this in a room with a TV too. I am already thinking about buying another one for my office now...

Sorry to hear about the problems you had with the Sonos Amp. In general, if the Amp can not connect to WiFi it is due to the placement of the product and WiFi interference with other wireless products or interference caused by the location. There are other issues that can arise, such as trying to connect the Amp to a guest network instead of your primary network. If you did not contact the Sonos Customer Experience team, I would recommend using social media or our support phone number (all contact information can be found at sonos.com/support). The Sonos Experience

Description: Totally amazing crystal clear sound comes from this amp and speakers. I don’t know how it could possibly get any better. I would say this amp is average size (approximately 8 1/2-inch-square box) having a slight concave top with a matte black finish that is attractive enough to leave out in the open. It is 250 watt 2.1 channel (125 watts per channel) amp which is very powerful. The design of this makes it nice to hide and not worry about it over-heating (you don’t need a lot of space for air to keep it cool). It has an AUX plug to use with audio devices, such as a CD player or turntable. The front of this unit is set up with touch controls such as the volume, previous/next track and play/pause for your convenience. I personally don’t think I will ever use them, but they may become useful in the future for something. The back has an HDMI input for the TV and thumb-screw speaker terminals that can be removed to reveal banana plug inputs for two speakers. There is also an Ethernet port so you don’t have to use Wi-Fi, if you choose to go that route. Set up: Download the Sonos app (if you don’t already have it on your phone or tablet) and you just have to follow the instructions from the app to set it up. Sonos has made it so easy for setting up for the average Joe. You can hook this up to nearly every TV on the market, stereo RCA for older TVs and HDMI ARC for newer TVs. This is a nice feature to have in an amp, so you don’t have to have just the latest and greatest TV and still get the Sonos experience. You can stream music easily, I use my Amazon Music account. There are a lot of ways to stream music with this amp…nearly any way you can think of. The Experience: Worth every penny. I have never been so excited about the sound coming out of my speakers. I felt like the whole band was sitting right next to me and seemed I could distinguish every note coming from each instrument in the band or orchestra with my eclectic taste in music. Recommendation: This will be great to use for a home theater system. It can have numerous Sonos wireless speakers hooked up to it. I wired 2 vintage Fisher 100 watt speakers to it on either side of the TV and bought 2 Sonos Play 1 speakers (with stands) for the back of sitting area for surround sound for the TV. WARNING: The Sonos experience can become VERY addictive.

Amazing device for the right setup

I wanted to add AirPlay support in my front room where I currently have an older B&K receiver and tower speakers. Thought about picking up the PlayBase but figured I'd give the Amp a chance. The Amp actually brought my towers back to life! I plugged my receiver back in and switched back because I couldn't believe something this small could outperform an older, but solid, dedicated receiver. Setup was clean and simple with the included plugs and the ARC return from my LG tv worked immediately. I would highly recommend the Amp as long as you understand its limitations. Works perfectly with AirPlay 2 and seamlessly switches to the TV audio when using the XBox. If you're looking for 5.1 or more, I'd find another solution. If you're thinking of hooking up an external device without ARC, you'll need to pick up an adapter. Using ARC is also going to cost you one of your TV HDMI inputs which may limit your connected devices. If your setup fits well with the Amp, I'd pick one up. I'm currently planning on adding another one to drive the speakers on my patio.

    Simply Amazing!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I picked up 2 amps from Magnolia in Best Buy. One to connect a pair of in-wall speakers plus a sub and another for a pair of in-ceiling speakers (both speaker pairs at 150-200 watts). These are creating a home theater setup with a TV and CD player connected to one of the amps. Everything works seamlessly and was a breeze to set up. I purchased an optical to HDMI adapter from the Sonos website to connect my TV using its optical output and free up an HDMI port on the TV. The in-ceiling speakers were inherited when I purchased the house and had wire runs to a completely different room/section of the house, but with the second Sonos amp, I didn’t need to reroute any wires. Sonos detected the overheads and incorporated them as rear surrounds seamlessly. I have no complaints and no regrets. The sound quality is amazing and the integration with my current Sonos ecosystem is seamless. This amp seems incredibly versatile. If it had existed last year I could have saved a few bucks with my turntable setup! Have fun with this gem!

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH FOR OLD SPEAKERS

If you have any wired speakers that are great, this AMP makes them relevant again! Ford is bringing the Bronco back and Sonos is bringing your older powerful wired speakers back... and sub! I have many Sonos speakers that have replaced my old book shelf to bluetooth speakers. My standing speakers were in an old AV set up. It is amazing to set up the old speakers via speaker wire and instantly being able to play music with the Sonos App. Remember when back in the day you had to wire speakers to Amp, you then had to set up the Turntable, CD Player, cassette player etc. No longer. This sets up within minutes and you can play music through the Sonos App in seconds. IF ONLY WE HAD THIS GROWING UP!! Worth every penny b/c you feel like you helped your older speakers cheat audio death!
