I have been a Sony customer for the majority of my adult life. I've always appreciated the ability of their products to interact with one another and simplify the life of whoever is trying to use them. This receiver is no different. The great part of it is that it communicates with the Sony TV and Blu Ray player that I have as well. Turning the power off on one will automatically turn off the others. I can connect all of my devices to one receiver and run everything through this receiver. It's a great thing.
The one drawback of this is that the remote has limitations. There is no ability to change to all of the possible settings on the remote, so you need to manually do that. For instance, when you want to play music from a Bluetooth device, you need to change the receiver to Bluetooth input manually.
Other than that, everything seems to be working well and I have been pleased with the sound and output of this receiver.

I had no issues with this reciever. It works as advertised. I would prefer to have the ability to get a printed manual (or PDF) with definitions for accroynms. I had to research terms to understand all the features as it was difficult to get explainations of all the possible surround settings in the online information from Sony. I guess someone familair with todays surround systems whould know but I was replacing a 25 year old system and was not up to date with the new terminology for the various surround modes and effects. The sound quality was good and matched my prevous reciever which was Pioneer. This one has much better suround effects which is likley because of the updated technology as my Pioneer had surround back when it was first introduced with VHS tapes. I'm using it in a 3/2.1 configuration. Just added the subwoofer as this reciever did not seem to have quite the base that I was getting from the Pioneer. Adding the sub corrected that issue.

We built a new house and have been upgrading electronics as we could. We originally wanted to have all the living room A/V equipment installed before we moved in but decided to spend that money elsewhere, but did buy a Sony 4K TV as a start. I broke out that A/V quote and since it was a year old, started shopping the items on it. The A/V receiver we were replacing was a 5+ Pioneer that I thought did a good job but did not have the 4K pass through, and the quote had another brand with a lot more power and extras that we did not need. I decided I wanted to try to "keep it in the family" and looked at Sony Receivers. There were some other Sony's I looked at with 4K pass through but settled on this one, and have not been disappointed at all! I bought it after Christmas since it was on sale and with some Bestbuy giftcards I got, so not sure where the price is now, but definately glad I paid for it! Looks elegant and stylish, and compliments the 4K TV very nicely. Using the same Polk speakers I have had for years (bookshelves), I feel the sound is 100% better. Part of that may be due to the included microphone and tuning feature, but sure the receiver itself is putting clean signal out there too. Great 7.2 sound! Since this makes those "older" speakers sound better than before, I will focus my upgrades on other areas and change out speakers last.

This had everything I needed for a reasonable price. The HDMI imputs makes having multiple gaming systems easier. The receiver picks up on all activity and automatically switches to where it needs to be. The sound is full and I don't have to make it too loud to fill the room. It picks up on Bluetooth quickly and my daughter can play her tunes from her iphone. A great buy.

This replaced a earlier sony model that didnt quite have the umph or watts. Found out that I needed 2 more speakers other than the bose bookshelf surround speakers, I had been using previously. I rebuilt my old speakers and bought some polk stand-up. So using 12 in woofers with sub woofer amp, with ADL 1100 series this thing gets up nice and clear and LOUD to the feel.

Once I figured out what was going on, it was relatively easy to set up. I did have to get an HDMI cable, a Digital Audio cable, and an Apple TV to finish things off. Yes, an Apple TV. It eliminates running a cable across the middle of the room to hook up my iMac.
I used the speakers from my old home theater system which works great except for the subwoofer which is not a powered component. Turns out this model receiver needs a powered subwoofer which would cost nearly as much as the receiver itself. I'm doing without. It seems there should be a better way to hook up speakers besides stripping wires and screwing them on.
The set-up of the system is a little on the clunky side but it's simple (once you see what they're doing) and it's all run off the TV screen.
My equipment is all Sony stuff. Blu-Ray player, Bravia TV, and Direct-TV for cable. The Direct TV remote controls the TV and the receiver, the Blu-Ray remote controls the TV and the Blu-Ray. Occasionally I have to use the receiver's remote to tell the receiver to 'look at' something else. I don't know if things would be that simple with more varied equipment.

My old one died of a different brand so I looked around and bought this. Very easy to set up and the controller makes changing outputs very easy. I am using the same old speakers as before but sound cleaner and crisp just from changing to this.

I love the sound of this receiver. It works well with my Sony TV using Bravia sync, and I can use my iPhone to control it and stream my music. I've only figured out how to use 7.1 channels but it sounds great! It replaced a 10-year-old Sony model, and I am happy with the fuller sound.

this Sony home receiver is extremely easy to work with. My husband I hooked up our entire surround sound by ourselves. (With the direction from the best buy sales representative). It was so easy to work with and the sound is amazing! We added the kalipsch 400W subwoofer and the kalipsch floor standing speaker and it sounds like you are in a theater.

Price / performance of this sony tuner is great. 7.1 Sounds awesome, calibration reasonably simple. On screen programing good but primitive. Included documentation is horrible. Download the full manual off Sony's site for any level of detail.

Very happy with this receiver. It was easy to connect and it does an automatic sound calibration. The sound is great and since we have a Sony dvd player this system automatically switches over when we watch a movie.

Replaced old Pioneer home theater receiver with this product. Was impressed immediately with the improvement with the 5.1 Dolby surround sound. The Sony decoder did a way better job with balancing the sound to each speaker. As other posts indicated, the box contains minimal set up instructions and the in depth instructions are on line. I just bookmarked it on my iPad and referred to as needed during set up. The microphone calibration did a good job balancing the speakers. Bluetooth standby works great to stream music whenever you want without having to physically turn on amp.

Nice receiver, at a good sale price ($199). Has interesting microphone to calibrate surround sound, which is a great idea. One drawback is I cannot find any 7.2 Speaker kits that match the wattage and ohms on this stereo. Probably need to buy a 5.1 kit and two separate satellite speakers.

I bought this because of the ease of set up and Bluetooth capabilities. It's simple to hook up and the control is easy with one touch functions to change between modes and sound presets. I would prefer the onscreen set up to be slightly easier to use on screen but overall I am satisfied.

This seems to be a pretty good receiver. I have had it for about 30 days. Pretty easy to hook up. I can sync my Bluetooth devices to it. If you are looking for mind blowing sound, you may want to step it up a bit. If you are looking to boost your sound and have movies sound much better than the TV speakers, it is fine.

For the price this receiver is worth the money. It is replacing an older receiver that still used the older composite and component cables. The new receiver takes advantage of the HDMI features and set up is a breeze. We are only using 5.1 audio output but have the availability of adding two extra if we choose to.

I had an older Sony surround sound system-probably 1st generation-that I was happy with. This one is fantastic! Initially used with just the 5 speakers, I've added a sub-woofer for enhanced sound and am looking for 2 new side speakers to take full advantage of the 7.1 features. And the price is right!!

Very simple to hook-up and so incredible easy to use. No need to switch TV to different inputs, just select a button on the remote and BINGO you can start using what ever component you have plugged in. Even though my picture was great before, the HDMI cables have made everything better.
