Great sound, even with high Ceilings
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The main reason I wanted a sound bar was to attempt to make voices in our living room easier to hear. We have vaulted ceilings, and the sound bounces all around the room and voices have been difficult to hear without cranking up the volume. This Sony soundbar solves this problem. We can now hear voices clearly at lower volumes, and the voice mode helps even more. I love the small, sleek design of the soundbar and woofer. The slim design of the woofer allows it to be placed almost anywhere (I put ours under a side table between couches). This sound overall, while very good, does not blow me away. It is no substitute for a good 5.1 system. But that's not what I was looking for in my living room. i just wanted to hear speech clearly and add some extra bass, which this system does very well. This soundbar is basically provides an excellent upgrade to tv speakers. I'd recommend this to those looking for a small, unobtrusive soundbar with good sound and bass.

Don't love it
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound can be low and then becomes extremely loud at times. Do not like not being able to know what volume is set to.

Small Sound Bar, Small Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony HT/MT300 is a small form sound bar that would sound best in front of a smaller 32"-40" in. TV in a small enclosed area like a small bedroom or a den. Sound bar itself is very small and compact compared with most sound bars on the market. Same goes for the wireless subwoofer, thin and square. Remote is pretty standard remote, I used my Harmony remote with no issues. Build quality is up to Sony standards, everything fits and works well, super easy to set up. Note there is no HDMI input only digital optical and Bluetooth connections. Bluetooth worked perfectly, pairing was easy. Subwoofer comes already paired, just turn the power on and it paired right away. As for sound the small form factor of the sound bar limits the power and output of the sound bar. In a larger room the sound kind of gets lost in the space of the room. Sound quality is good, clean and voices are easy to understand. Sound needs more punch but at only 100 watts of power it's going to limit the system. The system sounds much better in a smaller enclosed space than a large open area. But I'm sure that was the intention when it was designed. Subwoofer is adjustable either horizontal or vertical so you can slide the subwoofer under a couch or piece of furniture to hide it. The problem is the subwoofer is pretty underpowered and in a horizontal position under my couch it was barely noticeable and didn't put out much bass at all. It was a bit better vertically in an open space. All in all if you have a small space with a small TV then the HT/MT300 will work fairly well in your situation. If you have the space and a 40" or larger TV and have the room for full size sound bar in front it would be a better choice. Recommended if your limited on space and have a smaller TV you want to use it with.

Good 2.1 sound, wire-free sub
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.EASY. Right out of the box and onto the console, hooked up and ready to go. I needed a soundbar setup for my 11X15 loft office. I have a 46" television up there with horrendous built-in sound. Sony is known for great sound, but in this world of everyday 7.1 channel systems, I had my expectations pretty low. Enter technology. Throw the bluetooth sub somewhere (anywhere) discrete in the room, and turn on the television. The faux surround mode actually works in a small space just as it is designed! I now have clear, rich sound in a space where the TV was an afterthought, and I find myself cozying up there much more often! This system would be good in a bedroom, or small living area--and will fill such a space with high quality sound. Don't put it in your great room and expect a miracle.

Came without a power cord
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this as an open box and the power cord to the bar was missing. I took it back to Best Buy and they looked for one in the back but couldn’t find anything. So I had to order online. Of course that is going to take several weeks to get here...

Small, but powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was surprised how small the actual soundbar really was. It's roughly 2/3 the size of our old soundbar, but the sound quality is amazing compared to the old Insignia bar we used. It's a Sony product, so of course amazing quality is expected (and they delivered). Don't let the smaller size fool you, this soundbar not only sounds great and clear, but it can get pretty loud too. The subwoofer is pretty decent for its size as well. The subwoofer uses a wireless connection, which gives you the freedom to move it wherever you want (one diagram in the manual suggested under the couch in front of the TV). The bluetooth feature is great and I was able to pair it with my phone quickly. It's great for just streaming music while reading, playing board games, or even cleaning.

NOT WHITE AT ALL
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the white one, but it was beige/cream. In all the photos this product looks white, and in all the descriptions it says white. SONY needs to be honest from the get go and say it's beige/cream so that people don't waist their time in returning it. I returned it with no problem.

Sometimes Smaller is Better
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Sony 2.1 channel soundbar provides clean and spacious sound in an uncharacteristically slim design. I think that most soundbars are getting longer - or maybe manufacturers are distributing longer bars to charge more money. The speakers in my living room are about 10 feet apart, which is impractical and undesirable in a soundbar, but I have never been really sold on the quality of sound in huge soundbars. But this bar is tiny by comparison - just 20" x 4" x 2" - and the sound is very impressive. The soundbar is intended to be connected to a modern television through an optical digital cable (which is included!!!) and the sound reproduction and features are optimized for service in that capacity. But the bar also includes inputs and features on the remote for analog (AUX) input, bluetooth input, and USB input (you can play .mp3, .wav, and .wma files). Sound reproduction is clear and balanced for every type of input - though at maximum volume in bluetooth mode I noticed a tiny bit of audible noise during soft passages of music. But performance is stellar when the bar is supplementing the audio for my TV. Setup is a breeze and the features on the remote are mostly obvious - but there are a few more permanent settings that can be triggered with the remote by holding down certain buttons - so it's important to scan through the user's manual initially. Worth noting here that the subwoofer is less than 4 inches wide and is designed to fit under a sofa or bed - and the system can be optimized to use that hidden subwoofer configuration by holding-down one of the keys on the remote. The sound reproduction is impressive. Just understand that the subwoofer here doesn't punch bass notes like a cheap car amp - it is designed to reproduce the full spectrum of audio naturally. The bass isn't thump-y - instead, all audio just sounds full and complete.
