Great TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the 49" 800 series and am very satisfied with the ease of operation and picture clarity. It is in the bedroom and has very good sound quality without using a sound bar, which at this time is not in the plans. Great value!

Excellent television!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve only purchased Sony televisions since 1978. This is a very nice mid range tv with an extremely good picture. Excellent picture and sound and would definitely recommend. Sony, the one and only!

Disappointing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was going to buy a Samsung but opted for the Sony based upon store recommendation. Picture and sound quality good but sometimes when I turn on the TV, I only get the sound with NO PICTURE. Have to press the channel button and then picture appears on another channel. Other customers on the Blogs have the same complaints. I have downloaded a software update from Sony and reset the TV but problem had continued albeit not every day. Best Buy people have been terrific, have offered to swap out TV for another brand if problem continues. I'm reluctant to do so but getting close to taking them up on their offer if Sony does not release another update very soon which fixes the problem. Not ready to recommend this TV to a friend, . . .. yet.

Great TV with a few flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great 4K TV, beautiful picture, decent sound, but with a few flaws. Menus are slow and unresponsive to remote control commands if you don't give the TV adequate time to boot. You have to wait a minute or two. The lack of direct access to the USB ports, like HDMI and Component/Composite, to view photos and movies is very disappointing. You have to press the Home button, scroll down and select the play App. When using the USB port to play a movie, the Display button DOES NOT work, it does NOTHING when pressed. Also, when playing movies through the USB ports, they will freeze or play a few minutes and then will display a message telling you the video file is unsupported and cannot be played (files I use ARE supported, MKV, MP4). Bluetooth headphones ARE NOT supported either. Hopefully these flaws will be fixed with a new firmware update and then I will give this 4K TV 5 stars.

Love this TV!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn't positive at first about this TV from some of the reviews that I read, but when I saw the colors I was sold. It was so easy to set up and connect to my wifi. We connected our cable box and Roku to the back and this TV connected itself to each one fast. It was very impressive! The remote is easy to use and works great. You won't be sorry for making this purchase.

Incredible picture quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Out of the TV's I've owned(but have since returned for various issues)... Samsung MU8000, Vizio M50-E1, this one offered the absolute best picture quality and viewing experience. But in terms of overall experience, that reward goes to the Samsung, hands down for it's UI. Though given the option I would still go for a Sony again for its peak brightness. Sony's UI is absolutely awful, the Android OS is atrocious and one of the biggest mistakes they've made with this TV. But apart from that everything else is a solid performer. Get the Samsung if you want an overall amazing experience but not a very "amazing" picture. The Sony X800E will offer the kind of detail and brightness that really makes you say "Wow!".

Software issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tv has a great picture and the colors are bright and clear. However, the software is terrible. Very laggy. The tv is constantly freezing. Recently I had to unplug the tv to get it working again.

Avoid at all costs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV a little over a month ago, and while the picture is nice enough, the quality and Sony's customer service have been an absolute nightmare. As part of the television set-up process, you'll be prompted to download a software update. Once you do so, the television will make an ear-splitting beeping/popping noise for 1-3 seconds each time you pause live television or pause, rewind, or fast-forward through a recorded television program. There is no known workaround, and once the update is downloaded, there is no going back. I am a Spectrum (Time Warner) customer in New York City, but the cable service doesn't seem to matter - there is a forum on Sony's support site that consists of almost 30 pages of complaints from people with the same problem all over the country, regardless of which cable service they use. If you plan to watch recorded programs on your television, it will happen to you, too. This issue has resulted in many angry customers and even a Forbes article, but Sony doesn't seem motivated to fix it. On the support forum, a Sony representative said a fix would be available to download by mid-end February. Now it's mid-March, and there's been no fix and no follow-up. I finally decided to call Sony last night. After 45 minutes on hold, someone in an offshore call center spent several minutes talking through a script and getting information from me, then put me on hold, and then, after a few more minutes, disconnected me. Although he took down down my phone number and email address, I got no call back from this individual, or from anyone else at Sony. If this sounds like the sort of experience you want to have after spending nearly $1,000 on an item from what is supposed to be a superior brand name, then this is the television for you!

Great TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy with the Sony TV and appreciate that the set up was easy. Because of the HDMI ARC output I was able to take advantage of a Sony soundbar. TV works well with Apple TV 4K.

Not As Clear as my Samsung
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture in not as bright or clear as the 40'" Samsumg it replaced. The Sony sound is tinny and not as clear as the Samsung. Will need a sound bar. UGH. Wife wanted a bigger picture and the 49 ' Samsumg stand would not fit in our custom made TV entertainment center. So I got this Sony 49 inch set. My recommendation get the new Samsung 49".I gave this set three stars which says it is Just OK. I would give my Samsung 5 stars +. The Geek Squad was great and took the 37 inch Samsung from the bedroom and replaced it with the 40" Samsung from the Living Room. And that was a real upgrade. Will spend more time in the bedroom watching TV. Wife can watch the Sony in the Living Room. In a successful marriage compromise is essential. Wife likes the new Sony. Case solved.

Good, but with tradeoffs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Great picture and initial setup is fairly easy. Voice recognition is very good. Cons: Menu system is convoluted and it is a bit hard to find different settings, and the look and feel of some menus seems to change at will, without changes being initiated. The user interface seems a bit awkward in some ways, which may be a factor of preference between the Android and Apple ecosystems. Switching between apps and menus is a bit clumsy and can be slow. Acknowledgement of a button press or menu selection sometimes lags.

Bravia XBR waste of money

Lasted just over three years...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked great the first three years, then the motherboard went out and caused lines and flickering on the screen. Expected it to last longer than this. If you buy it, get the extended warranty. Lesson learned.

I love Sony products
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great TV for my bedroom. I just noticed it is not an OLED and the picture is not as crisp as my other Sony OLEF but it still offers me a good picture and good gaming graphics.

Only a fair tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this for a week and wished I had not bought. The picture is ok, sound is poor quality, I'm glad I had a sound bar. The stand (legs) you screw to the bottom are so weak they tell you to hook cables from the tv to the wall or tv stand. They Sony customer service is the worst, can not get a talk to a live person only text.
