Sony XBR-55X900E - Excellent mid-level LED TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this 55" Sony TV during the Black Friday sale after reading many reviews and user ratings. I installed it on a full motion wall mount and am currently using picture settings available on Rtings.com. The picture quality is very nice with very good contrast and black levels. Overall brightness is also very good, and colors are impressive with realistic flesh tones. The TV seems to handle motion well, and off angle viewing isn't too bad - about what I would expect for a VA panel. I am not a big fan of the smart Android features, and use a Roku Premiere+ for streaming. The TV does a good job upscaling and cable channels as well as 1080p blu rays look just fine to me. The few 4k UHD blu ray movie I have look great. The remote has a lot of buttons and no backlight, but is fairly easy to use (although I plan on using an all-in-one for general day-to-day viewing). I can't really comment on the sound from this TV since I use external speakers. While the TV seems to be solidly built, I have not owned or used it for very long. I hope it turns out to be relatively trouble free and reliable.

Amazing Premium 4K TV!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The XBR55X900E is an amazing 4K TV. A very dramatic contrast, a very high peak brightness, really solid black levels, just a well rounded TV. Colors look amazing thanks to the Triluminus Display from Sony, 4K upscaling and HDR Remastering is very solid thanks to the X1 processing chip, clarity is very good thanks to X-Reality Pro, and like I said before, contrast/black levels/brightness are very, very good because of the X-Entended Dynamic Range Pro X5 technology. User interface can sometimes be laggy and unresponsive, but for the most part works great. Definitely recommend this TV to anytime who’s looking for a great quality 4K TV, I think the best balanced TV of all Sonys models so far.

Excellent! I also own the 930D
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent TV! I had to purchase this on a whim due to a broken bedroom TV. While I admit I didn't research TVs prior to this purchase due to my necessary haste in needing a replacement, having a 930D, (which is also excellent), I knew I wanted something similar for the bedroom. As great as the 930D is, this is even better imo. The picture just feels much more alive and the colors really "pop." While I don't personally like the cluttered "Home" menu (same as the 930D), that doesn't distract from the great picture this TV provides. Like the 930D, it offers a wealth of calibration settings, in fact it offers a few more settings the 930D does not possess, although I think the firmware versions are different. The blacks are great and backlighting is definitely brighter than the 930D. The colors are also much more vibrant. I don't watch too much 4k, as there's really not much out there, but I can assuredly say that this thing makes typical DirecTV 1080i content look so much better than my old bedroom 1080P TV. I have no clouding or other issues normally associated with LED TVs. The frame wasn't bent or anything else for that matter. There are also no bright/dark spots from what I can tell so far, it's very uniform and very bright! All-in-all very happy.

Great Mid to High Range
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a lot of research of all the major TV brands and their model tiers I decided to pick up the 55" Sony x900E. I use this mainly for HDR Gaming and Movies. Sony's game mode works well and reduces input lag though the lag is not the noticeable outside of Game mode. I can't comment on the android apps because i use my Xbox to stream YouTube and Netflix. Overall I felt like the little bit of extra money over the other model i was looking at it was worth it due to the wider color range, black levels, full array back lighting, better overall picture quality and wider viewing angle.

Its all screen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tv is all screen- 55", with viewable area 54.6". Barely a 1/4" bezel around entire perimeter. Dynamic HDR gives it real nice contrast, deep blacks and bright white. 120hz refresh rates keeps things moving without blur. Bought this to pair with Xbox One X. Games and UDH movies look amazing on this screen. Smart tv enabled, setup through Google is easy. Built-in wifi, it took about 45min for it to download and install current update. But then past that its smooth sailing.

Premium Features for Value Prices
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Sony x900e after lengthy review and research, the online reviews were all positive and the price for Black Friday at $999 was the deciding factor. After owning this tv for about a week, my family and I are blown away at the excellent detail and myriad of settings and features that are available on this set. It will take some time to dial in the settings for each person's specific tastes but it is capable of a top tier picture quality. Animated movies (pixar, disney, etc...) look spectacular, they are so vivid and seem to really pop! likewise, 4k UHD/HDR comes to life for documentaries and movies with life-like colors. gaming is great on this as well, we play on an Xbox one S and the input lag is fine even with some of the processing features on, games like Battlefield 1 and Forza look spectacular and fluid. I had thought about going with the LG OLED B7 but at $1600, it is not significantly better IMO. the Sony x900e performs very close for $600 less and no worry about burn in. do yourself a favor and give this set serious consideration, it is a great value and excellent performer!

Best picture of all LED Tv's, Excellent color.....
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excriient picture, true to life colors, detailed blacks, contrast, HDR is best in the class. Sony motionless is also the best which is clearly visible with sports and fast moving action scenes. Decent sound for a flat screen rear facing speaker system; a sound bar or home theatre sound system would add more realism to the excellent picture.

Great TV, great price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is amazing. It has pure black, great contrast, and handles movement very well. 55" is the perfect size - big enough but not overpowering. We returned a 6000 series 65" 4k Samsung for this TV and pocketed the $200 price difference. Very happy

Nice TV for PC Monitor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The X900E is a good all-around TV. I chose it primarily to use as a PC monitor. The input lag is great in game mode, particularly when running 1080p @ 120hz (you'll have to set a customer resolution on your PC to utilize it). I was also able to get it to run 1440p @ 120hz as well. The input lag is a little higher gaming in 4k mode, though it's not bad at all. There is some noticeable lag outside of of game mode, however it should be acceptable for many applications/games. If you do plan to use this as a monitor, make sure you go to Home>Settings>External Inputs>HDMI Signal Format and choose Enhanced Format to enable Chroma 4:4:4 (It will make text much sharper in Windows). Now as for the picture quality, it is excellent overall. Content streamed from Prime, Play Movies, Netflix and Youtube look fantastic - particularly when watching something in 4K/UHD, or HDR (I prefer HLG over the other HDR setting). Despite the claims that this TV produces a strong Soap Opera Effect, I haven't noticed it, even on the strongest settings. I don't notice any flicker, and movement is good. There is a little judder with wide slow-moving panning shots in 4k/UHD, but it's not too bad. I haven't noticed any judder with 24p content. This TV does a fantastic job of up-scaling 1080p content (with one exception - see the next paragraph). If Comcast is your TV provider, be aware that it is currently going to look pretty bad on this TV @ 1080p (the highest resolution for the X1 boxes at the moment). The picture quality for watching Comcast went from a 9 on my old 1080p TV, to a 5 or 6 on the X900E. This is not a fault of the TV, but rather of Comcast's compressed signal. Sports in particular look terrible - a pixelated mess. Supposedly, Comcast will be rolling out updated boxes sometime this year to address this issue (it effects all 4k TVs from what I've read), but be aware as of today, 85% of what you watch on this TV from Comcast is going to look pretty awful. Many people have complained that the UI (user interface) is laggy and unresponsive and I have to agree with them overall. There are a few things I have noticed in regards to this issue. If you are streaming something in 4k via the TV - forget about trying to make any adjustments to settings. You'll need to pause your show, or deal with extreme unresponsiveness from the remote/UI. Also, like any Android device, the more tabs/apps you have open, the snappiness of the UI decreases. It's a good habit to close tabs/apps as you are finished with them, to free up RAM and keep the delay in the UI to a minimum. This delay is directly related to using apps/streaming anything via the TV itself. The UI is plenty responsive while making adjustments watching live TV, a Blu-Ray, or something via PC (anything that isn't being streamed by the TV itself). The built in Wi-Fi works great - I have had no issues with it whatsoever, contrary to other reviewers. I suppose it helps that my router is about 6 feet from the TV. The viewing angles aren't as bad as many reviews stated. The color does drop off a bit from the sides, but it's really not that terrible in comparison to some TVs. It handles reflections pretty decently and gets plenty bright. The blacks are great for all content I have tried, with the exception of Comcast. Overall I would give this TV a 4.5/5, however that is not an option, so I have given it four stars. I knocked off half a star for the laggy user interface/delay when using the remote. Other than that and the issue with Comcast (that is on Comcast), I have found no serious flaws with this TV and I have been satisfied with my purchase. *One other thing to note, they offered a free month of Sling TV with the purchase of this TV, I went with an email receipt and there was no redemption code in the section where it should have been. Not a big deal, but I was interested in trying it out as a possible alternative to the overpriced and terrible looking Comcast picture I get on this TV.

Awesome 4K TV!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had done so much research to find a good 4K TV, and had seen great reviews for Sony’s 2017 lineup. Now after finally purchasing one, I can say the reviews were right! This TV is amazing, with great picture quality, fantastic color, and really good black levels. Not quite OLED levels but it’s pretty close. And the set gets very bright and has really nice motion handling without getting the dreaded “soap opera” effect. I’m in love. My only criticism would be of the Android TV operating system. It works well enough and has a lot of app support, but it does get slightly buggy sometimes and could use a good design overhaul. Samsung and LG have Sony beat when it comes to their respective OS. If they update Android TV this TV would be 100% perfect. Other than that you really can’t go wrong with purchasing this TV. You won’t be disappointed!

Worth the extra money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I reviewed televisions for about a year and didn't quite have the budget for an OLED. So I seriously entertained this television and waited for it to be on a good sale. The reviews are accurate on all the major websites in the picture is amazing. Android TV is functional and fine, but really the performance of the television is worth the five star rating. The blacks look like broadcast blacks and the colors jump off the screen without seeming oversaturated. I can see the 120Ghz refresh rate. I'm very happy with the purchase.

An Absolutely Perfect TV!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been eyeing this television for quite some time due to reviews I read in early 2017 about the quality of the picture (almost perfect OLED quality blacks) and the combination of features this set offers (multiple HDR formats, multiple audio & video options, ease of use of features including android-based features, intuitive remote control and settings options, overall responsiveness/quick execution of functions, sturdy and nice looking base and frame, and best picture quality out there next to OLED options due to its full array backlighting, to name a few). At the time I was reviewing this set, there was a Samsung from 2016 that was still being lauded as the best set available, but that changed fairly quickly and this set took top billing and has maintained it so far on most review sites out there. I originally received one with a shattered panel behind the screen, but once I swapped that one out for one in good condition, I've experienced nothing but pleasant blissful TV watching! This thing is a total upscaling monster and makes just about everything viewed on it look fantastic, from old DVDs to actual 4K HDR content, I have been amazed at the sheer perfection of the picture quality rendered by this set (ran a few 4k OLED display videos on it, and it handled them to perfection!). My plan was to hold out until Black Friday for a lower price, but the price dropped over labor day weekend, leading to my purchase. This is worth every penny paid, and I am very happy with my purchase! I could not have asked or prayed for a better set than this, as it has gone far beyond all the hype around it and exceeded expectations immensely. I would recommend this set to everyone I know. Great job with this work of art, Sony!

Excellent - no issues so far at all.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really surprised at the performance and general design of this TV. I was concerned that being a step down from the 930 with the X1 Extreme chipset that I’d get frustrated and feel the need to upgrade.. but I don’t. The 4K is absolutely fantastic and the built-in apps work perfectly. The only drawbacks really are the Android TV Platform in and of itself - there’s really not all that much out there now, but the basics (Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, Hulu) are all there. Sound is better than I expected. HDR is fantastic (no, this one can’t be upgraded to Dolby Vision like the 930 - which I don’t really believe Sony on, but they have to segment models some way I guess.) For the price it’s outstanding.

A stunningly beautiful set
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Much has already been said about this model, as I can see by the reviews that are already here, so I'm just going to give some perspective on some of the things I feel are the coolest about this TV. I do, in fact, believe this is the best TV I have ever owned, and the picture is absolutely divine, coming off of a plasma, which I didn't think would allow me to become satisfied with any other TV besides an OLED set, which, sadly, was not in my budget. This set does, in fact, satisfy what I was hoping. It does have viewing angle limitations, but they are not severe, and sitting within a 45 degree arc in front of the screen you are treated to one of the richest, deepest examples of picture quality I have seen yet from an LCD/LED set. If this is what direct-lit can do, I'm never going edge-lit again. One thing that is just awesome is the way this TV integrates so well with the devices I use, namely my receiver, PS4, and PS3. Basically, once everything is connected, the TV through its input selector, will basically turn on and adjust the inputs to the correct ones on my audio receiver, and shut off other devices as necessary. This, as well as being able to control everything contextually relevant through the "Action Menu" button on the remote, helps minimize the need for multiple remotes or even to utilize my Harmony remote anymore. Second, the picture presets are actually very good. They are nearly set to where I didn't have to tweak anything. However, I still was able to dial in a nearly plasma-like picture through the Custom option, Turning the brightness down to about 40, the Contrast just a hair up to 95, the Black Level to 35, the Gamma to -2, the local dimming to Medium, and the X-tended Dynamic Range to High. Working off of these tweaks it really helps the Local Dimming do its job and that the highlights really sing and help the contrast pop better. Lastly, it's very future-proofed that all of the HDMI inputs are 2.2 compatible and also the Android TV interface, while a bit sluggish admittedly due to an underpowered processor, helps ensure that the set should be able to grow with the times and also provide voice command control, which I have found is quite helpful in a pinch. All in all, a great set that really shines as the centerpiece of a room.

Awesome TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is awesome, I tried the budget path first before decided to pay more for quality. I tried the Sony X800E first and let me say it’s NOT in the same class as the X900E. I bought into all the hype and tried the TCL P605 based on reviews, let me tell you that you get what you pay for. I returned the TCL before my dead line and got the X900E and I’m glad I paid more. This TV has the best black levels I’ve seen on a LED tv, the peak brightness really makes HDR pop. If your wanting a tv that HDR really makes a difference get the Sony X900E or a high model, I tried 4 budget TVs in the 700 price range from Sony, Vizio, LG, and the TCL and HDR has no effect on those cheap TVs, it wasn’t until using the X900E that I seen what a difference HDR makes. If you want a true HDR tv for movies and video games the X900E is a true entry level HDR tv, those budgets HDR TVs will not have the peak brightness level to give you a true HDR picture.

Looks better and better
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I decided to go with this Sony TV vs the other brands' similar products because of the price and reviews said this one was superior anyway. After purchasing, I swear the TV started looking better and better with more use! I have not been disappointed. Picture looks great! I was worried about the colors vs the Samsung, but I think it's comparable! Very satisfied! TV is best viewed straight on and in a dark room. The screen does not have the widest viewing angles and it does reflect light, so putting it in a large room with lots a bright light will not be an optimal setting. Motion handling is very good. There are lots of motion settings to please everyone based on their preference. I don't use cable, so I mostly use it for streaming shows on the built in Netflix app and using Chromecast to stream from my phone for everything else. It's actually pretty cool because the TV has Chromecast built in, so you don't need to buy one. I happened to have one already, but the one built into the TV is faster! Whether streaming or casting, everything looks great. Android TV User Interface works great (very user friendly). Reviews warned me that it was sluggish, and it can be, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, it's pretty comparable to other TVs. If you want to change picture settings, you have to do so for each individual input, which I think is a good thing so you can have cinematic mode for your Blu-ray player, game mode for your console, etc and it remembers your settings for each. It could be a bad thing if you like the same settings for everything and then you have to change it for each input, but I really don't think it is a problem for 90% of people. Remote is good, though it's kinda picky about where you're pointing it - you have to make sure the remote is pointed at the tv or else it won't register what you're pressing. Reviews said the sound was bad on the TV, but I actually really like it and haven't seen the need to get a soundbar or anything. Design of the TV is great, although the power brick is ridiculously close to the TV. My TV sits on a table, so it doesn't really mater, but the cord barely makes it to the floor before it turns into the brick, so if you want to mount it on a wall, take it into consideration that you're not gonna make it, and that you'll have to conceal it inside the wall somehow or on a shelf. Overall very satisfied with my purchase. Great TV with great quality for an unbeatable price!

Great picture, sound can be more to be desired
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I chose this TV cause I've been wanting to get a 4k tv for a while now (HDR included). My 42 inch 1080p Samsung gave out on me just a little after a year (got those dang vertical lines) and needless to say I was extremely disappointed. Since then, I was using an extra tv my brother had, a 32 inch Vizio and I must say, that TV wasn't too bad, especially with sound quality. Once I saved up enough money I knew I wanted to get a 4k tv. Being that Sony is considered one of the best brands I decided to dish out the extra money for this TV over other brands I was looking at (Samsung, Vizio, etc). The assembly is very easy, once you read the instructions you can figure it out no problem. The TV slides right into the TV Stand with no problem ( I did this all myself so it was a little bit of a struggle to lift it and get it on their but I managed, I don't recommend you do this alone!). I was a little surprised with the TV Stand as it seems a bit flimsy and doesn't seem too reliable but it seems to be holding pretty well so far. I would just suggest not bumping into this TV. The picture is absolutely amazing, I immediately noticed a difference in watching my TV shows on satellite TV and even though I only have the standard edition of Netflix I still noticed an improvement. My ps4 works just fine on it too and once it suggestsed I turn my HDR on for my games I was immediately happy with the results! I haven't experienced any lag or anything else peculiar so I would say this is a safe bet for game consoles. Onto the sound of this TV. To be honest I thought I wouldn't even need to buy a sound bar for this. After reading the description of this TV it makes it sound like it has the best built in speakers but once you play games and watch TV on it you feel like you still need more out of it. I got it on volume 70 while watching Netflix and I still feel the need to turn it up more. The 32 inch Vizio I mentioned earlier seemed to have way better sound quality then this 55 inch "beast". Overall I will say I'm satisfied. The picture Is absolutely amazing and for the price with HDR I would say it's worth it. Just don't expect too much on the sound quality, if you want a truly great home theater experience save up for a sound bar too.

Love this TV!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my ten-year old Samsung TV began getting vertical lines coming up from the bottom of the screen, I decided it was time to start researching new TVs. I was very happy with my Samsung so figured I would stick with their products. After reading some reviews and looking at TVs at Best Buy, I was down to deciding between 2 TVs, the Samsung (MU8000FXZA) - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range and the Sony (XBR55X900E) - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range. They both looked fantastic at the store. I initially went with the Samsung because I had good luck with my first one and the picture had just a touch more intense color that made it stand out a bit. When I got the Samsung home and up and going, I was not happy. The color was just too intense and bright. I watched some u.tube videos and adjusted the settings (calibration) which made a definite improvement, but still not what I felt I could live with. I had to readjust when I changed channels because the faces would either look sunburned or a tinge green. I hate to return things, but decided I had to. I exchanged it for the Sony. It was a little more difficult to set up, but really not bad. We had already programmed our Harmony remote for the Samsung so had to change some settings for the Sony, but really not that big a deal. Now for the good news... I LOVE THE SONY TV. It looked great right out of the box. I made a few slight adjustments, but didn't really need to. It is amazing! I did have to pay about $100 more for the Sony, but it is well worth it. I don't think you could go wrong with this TV. I am very happy with it.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do my research on everything before I buy it. Everything I read pointed to this set. You cannot find a better tv than this under $1000. Wifey couldn't tell how good it looked in store, but when I brought it home she said she could immediately tell. Everything about the picture, brightness and color pop. Hdr is nice too, plus no serious lag on gaming as well. Only way to get better than this is to buy and oled tv.

Very pleased with it so far
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since 2010, I owned a 50" Panasonic Plasma, which was great for watching sports with a 600 Hz refresh rate, and the deep blacks were terrific. When a lightning strike took it out, I was forced to get a replacement. I did tons of research, to include reading CNet articles, going in stores and talking to employees, and reading forums and user reviews. In the end, I knew that due to my affinity for watching sports, I had two choices. One, ante up for a $2500 OLED TV, which was far, far out of my budget, as I was initially hoping to get away with spending $500 - $750. I was misled prior to my research, that I could get any old 4K LED TV for even less than $500 that would suffice, but I quickly learned you get what you pay for. Since I knew I wasn't going to spend over $2000, I began looking at mid-tier TVs, and repeatedly, I came back to the SONY 900 series, which was well documented to be great for LIVE sports due to it's internal processor, and for having local dimming features which would rival that of my old plasma TV that I was accustomed to. As I type this, I'm watching college football, and the colors are quite dynamic and rich. No regrets. It has a lot of "smart" features, but most of them I already have/had on my TiVo box and/or AppleTV. But if you don't have those items, you could certainly benefit from the apps on this TV. In the end I paid more than I originally had planned, ($1299+ when you factor taxes and protection plan), but it's an investment, so you can't totally cheap out.
