This is a great tv for next-gen systems, picture is crisp, and clear, plus the sound is outstanding for this tv. Even with regular HDMI the picture gaming picture is amazing, but if you’re planning on getting next-gen systems be sure to get an HDMI cable that supports 4K+HDR (make sure the ends of the cable are gold plated.) Using the applications from the TV such as Netflix, and Disney look amazing. This is the best upgrade I’ve got in years.

This TV is definitely a terrific low-mid tier tv right out of the box picture looked amazing, with a few tweaks it looks even better especially when playing video games. I think if you’re looking for a 55” tv for your bedroom or office look no further, also if you want a tv for the PS5 or Xbox Series X this tv has enough bells and whistles to make you satisfied with your purchase but it really depends on what features are more important to you.

Amazing picture quality for the new lineup of Sony’s TVs. With hdmi 2.1 on ports 3 and 4, you can further enhanced picture quality with the correct cables and electronics. 4K display has good peak brightness and smart features. There is a problem with its built in wifi in which it disconnects and isn’t able to reconnect unless you restart the tv. Ethernet connections recommended, though Sony could address this issue later on.

      Hi YAS109,

We're glad that you like the picture quality of the TV. It's unfortunate that you are having Wi-Fi issues with the TV. There is an issue in the XBR X900H / X90CH TV software which may cause the built-in Wi-Fi® connection to turn off. This issue will be addressed in an upcoming software update. In the meantime, restart the TV each time the Wi-Fi connection turns off:

-On the remote control, press and hold the Power button until Restart appears on the TV screen, and then press Enter to restart it.

Thanks for sharing your review and for choosing Sony!

We needed a TV for the home gym that could AirPlay a few cycling and fitness apps. This works great for our needs and the picture quality is awesome. The Sony OS is easy to use and even has streaming apps so a separate streaming device is unnecessary. We’ve tried other brands over the years. After this purchase, we decided to wait for the new releases to upgrade our living room TV with a Sony too.

Bought this TV to replace my Sony 900f which was broken by a flying toy. For the price this TV can’t be beat. Picture is great, gaming on this tv is great. With the software updates this tv will be ever bit as good for gaming as the LG CX with out the down sides and worries of OLED. The Android smart tv is great. The only negative I will give for this tv is the stands. They are sturdy I just don’t prefer their look to the stands on my 900f.

This is a very underrated TV and most of the reviews online and across various forums are due to cluelessness /ignorance. People passing judgements without seeing this tv in person or folks trying to justify their expensive investments. Lol. This is the only TV in the Sony lineup which will support all gaming centric HDMI 2.1 features like 4k@120, VRR and low latency support on 2 ports (via future firmware update). Port #3 would be the designated e-Arc port which is necessary for full fat lossless audio like Dolby Atmos. The black levels are stunning on this tv and although not quite Oled level, but it’s close. Set the basic SDR settings at custom (Most accurate SDR setting) with local dimming at high, in order to achieve inky black levels. Disable all artificial enhancement features like reality creation, auto light sensor, X-Tended Dynamic Range, and Advanced Contrast Enhancer. Note : the last two would be enabled automatically for HDR and Dolby vision content. Excellent motion on this TV, probably on of the best on the market. The new X1 processor has been tweaked for 2020 and is not the same as the older X1 processors. Thus the upscaling is quite awesome on bit starved content. HDR content automatically cranks up the basic SDR settings and you don’t have to tinker with them just leave the default settings. Dolby dark is the most accurate setting for Dolby Vision. Dolby bright during daytime. Once you have got the basic SDR settings right, you are set.

What can I say, best TV for under $1000. This has two hdmi 2.1 ports and I play the Xbox series X and Ps5 on this thing, both look amazing. Guests at my house made comments about how incredible my tv looked when they came over for the game. It looks just as good as the OLED TV's I was comparing it to and no burn-in worries. If your a gamer or into sports this tv is for you.

I’ve always been a big Sony fan and have purchased several Sony’s over the years so I didn’t hesitate to purchase the XBR55X900H. The picture is great as others have mentioned. However, I have had a few issues. Once the TV made a load screeching noise and did a restart on its own. It worked fine after that. But just yesterday there was no sound or video on the HDMI 3 ARC input that is connected to the cable box. The TV must have thought there was an input because “No Signal” was not displayed. After checking the cable, cable box, and HDMI cable to no avail, I did a reset (unplugged and plugged back in) on the TV and that corrected the problem of no video and sound. The software is up-to-date on the TV so I don’t know if the software is flakey or if the TV is defective.

I bought this TV to upgrade from my 7 year + old TV. Even more of an incentive was me getting a PS5. With this TV the picture quality is fantastic. Definitely one of the better looking TVs I’ve seen. Also this TV will be able to utilize the HDMI 2.1 port which is good news if you have a PS5. It was an easy decision for me. If you pick this up you won’t be disappointed.

Wow, just wow! The Sony X900H is a great TV for the price. Just received and set-up my 55" and it looks amazing. The picture quality is great out of the box, and only needed minor adjustments to the Motion settings. The black is very black, making the colour pop. The built-in Android TV is also great, the UI is very usable and friendly, and the responsiveness is incredible.

Just an overall great TV. Contrast is great and the display gets very bright. Has two HDMI 2.1 ports so you can hook up both a PS5 and Xbox Series X. Only negative on that end is eARC is only supported on HDMI 3 which is one of the 2.1 ports so if you want to use that and both consoles you will need to get an HDMI switch down the line. Supports 4K 120hz but there is a known issue with text being a bit blurry at 120hz. Sony did release a patch that makes it a bit better but it’s still not crisp from what I have read. This may or may not ever get fixed so not recommended if you plan to use this mainly as a PC monitor but with gaming on console it shouldn’t be an issue which is what I plan on using it for. VRR and ALLM support has been reconfirmed by Sony to be coming with a firmware patch at sometime which I assume is whenever the PS5 supports VRR.

      Hi WhyHelloThere,
Awesome! We're glad that you are enjoying the picture quality of your new TV especially with its contrast and brightness. We also value your feedback with the eARC port available and blurry issues on the TV. The TV uses HDMI 2.1 for ports HDMI 3 (eARC/ARC) and HDMI 4. These are the 2 ports that allows 4k at 120 fps on the TV. Please make sure that the Enhanced signal format is turned on to take advantage of 4k 120fps. Our X900H will have Variable Refresh Rate and ALLM via future software update. Please make sure to enable the Automatic Software Update on your TV to get the latest version. This is a great choice in the price range. Easy to set up and menus are configurable. Colors are bright. Buy a stand. The legs are useless and cheap. If you plan on using WiFi, get a repeater. The installed wifi has a bug that will shut it down and you have to reboot the TV everyday.

Samsung vs LG vs Sony - It was a horse race

My budget for a 55" TV was $1200. My desire was to get the best for my money - I thought that the Samsung Q8DT Series after all my research would be perfect and I couldn't have been more wrong. I purchased the Samsung from Costco knowing I had 90 days to make the return. My goal was that the TV must be easy to use for my wife - without having to use 3-4 remotes to get everything up and running and have a much better picture than my 10 year old 44" Visio. It must only take ONE REMOTE to operate everything! That required that the eARC/CEC communication work properly with my Yamaha TSR-700 AVR. Thus, the optical audio was not an option for my rig. My configuration has the following requirements: The TV will only plug into the AVR - I refuse to plug devices directly into the TV bypassing the AVR. The AVR must handle 4k and all devices The universal remote must handle everything (within reason for older DVD player I have which is going to be replaced). Goal: SIMPLICITY/EASE-OF-USE and gorgeous picture and sound The results were very disappointing with the Samsung. The picture would stutter during playback from the DVR (RCN Lehigh Valley PACE device through the Yamaha). The Yamaha AVR did not know when to turn on from the Samsung CEC. It was a mess. My wife saw my frustration and said, "Just return it, it doesn't work. Stop knocking yourself over to make it work." I then turned to a few friends who suggested the LG brand. So, I dialed into the NanoCell expecting the picture to be better/smoother. By the way, OLED was off my list because of the burn-in. Again, I could not have been more wrong. The picture flow was actually worse. BUT, the LG did turn on the Yamaha AVR but the Yamaha would activate the TV source instead of the STB (Set-Top Box - meaning the DVR that's plugged into the Yamaha should be the video and audio source). So, I would see the DVR picture but could not hear anything because the Yamaha was confused about the audio source. Plus, the remote for the LG was not able to properly control the DVR. So, another failure for the CEC integration (Samsung and LG are both out at this point in my quest). Could the issue have been the Yamaha? I contacted them since this was a new AVR for my rig and they said - "It should just work with any device". I said, OK, let's go with that theory. Especially since I saw the Yamaha actual perform properly with the LG while I saw the Samsung properly control the DVR. At this point I was contemplating the Chinese brand, Hisense, because of the reviews, but I figured I should give Sony a chance before going down that road. I've always had a high respect for Sony quality since I was in high school and bought a Song boombox that I still own today and it works amazingly great! So, I returned the LG to BestBuy (love their return services - it's so easy and they help bring the TV in from the car!). I bought the Sony Bravia X900H series (not the X950H - the features were not as good based on reviews). This TV finally worked correctly and consistently with the Yamaha - YAY! Where the Samsung was flaky and unpredictable when you turned it on and the LG was not smart enough to actually handle the DVR through the Yamaha AVR, the Sony shined! Plus, the Sony's picture does not stutter and the remote handles the DVR with perfection along with the Yamaha AVR. So, I found the winner and all three 55" models were under $1100 which fit my budget. Moral of the story is I thought Samsung was a leader in the TV market - I was wrong. Their software is buggy and their frame rates (stutter) are very disappointing in these mid-range TV's. Similarly, LG fell into a similar category because it could not become one-stop shopping for the universal remote and the same frame stutter problem. Now, is the Sony perfect? Nope. The Yamaha will change the surround-sound mode based on CEC communication and apparently during playback of the DVR (literally, the mode is embedded in the recording), the Yamaha picks up a change and tries to switch, which causes the sound to pause while the Yamaha is switching surround sound modes (Dolby Digital to Dolby Digital Plus or something like that). Is that annoying? Yes. Is that software fixable? Yes. Do I know who the issue belongs to: DVR, AVR or TV? Nope. Not without more testing and removing variables could I zero in on that issue but I knew, going into the TV swap quest, I was going to have to live with something since these devices are now so software dependent that any little bug or bad CEC communication can cause a frustrating problem for the user. And of course, there is one more annoyance with the Sony: the glare factor. Yup, it has a much higher glare so watching dark scenes is difficult with lights on in the rooms (I have to see if my wife will move a mirror because it's causing the most glare at this point - she probably won't be happy about my request). All in all - there's no perfect TV/AVR/DVR because the CEC standard is wonky, the universal remote concept is still unfolding and the picture quality is not as good as I thought with Samsung and LG in the mid-range TV's. My only recommendation is be prepared to live with it or keep the box handy so you can return it and work through swapping equipment until you find a rig that works for you.

I would recommend this to a friend
