I just got the TV today to replace a 12 year old Hitachi Plasma and wow, I am blown away by the amazing picture. I used the RTINGS.com recommended settings for the X900F which are also great for the X950G. The TV is plenty bright in my sunny den and also looks great in the dark. Content from my directTV box as well as streaming content from Netflix, Hulu and Amazon looks great. I did notice a little judder when watching Friends on Netlix. I had no problems setting up the TV and logging into Netlix, Hulu, HBOGo, Amazon...it all went flawlessly. I also had no issues connecting via ARC to my Onkyo reciever. The sound quality from the TV itself is better than I was expecting. At this point I and my wife both love the new TV

It's not the absolute perfection I was expecting it to be, but that's my own mistake for expecting perfection from a high mid-tier set. It definitely has its pros and cons, but overall I am very pleased with the upgrade.
Pros: super bright. Seriously, I have to use the ambient light sensor to tone it down at night or I can feel the eyestrain if the brightness is dialed up and or there's not enough light in the room. Great color. Maybe not as wide gamut as a QLED, but still beautiful. handles motion well due to its 120hz processor and great chipset. Supports Dolby vision which seems to be most of Netflixs hdr content. Upscales beautifully. This was a big factor for me since most content is far from 4k. Also extremely little to no uniformity issues, aka the dirty screen effect. Android TV is snappy and easy to use on this as well.
Cons: really only the blooming, which is when the local dimming zone that's lit is larger than the highlight it's trying to illuminate. It's there, but you can combat it and honestly I'm sure I'll just get used to it. It can be a little distracting on scenes of bright white against jet black, but so far that mostly happens during the credits. Yes, the black bars of letterbox content do turn gray at times, but that you have to focus on a bit more to see, especially if you have any lighting in the room. Plus the highlight from the screen that's creating the bloom is generally bright enough to drown it out a bit too. If you cant handle blooming, you're gonna need a nicer set with a lot more zones or an OLED. Some say the Samsung Q70 is better in this regard, but then you risk the dirty screen effect and theirs suppresses blooming by dimming the image, which crushes out detail in the process. Watch the av forum review of the Q70. When Sandra bullock tumbles in the movie Gravity, the stars show in the background when her suit isn't creating a highlight, but as soon as it does, the bloom suppression kicks in and basically crushes the stars out of existence. I guess it's up to you to decide which is more distracting. Also that TV doesn't support Dolby Vsion HDR.
A little off topic there with the talk of the Samsung, but that TV is what most people at this price point debate between if they're on the fence about this TV and I figured I'd help anyone in that position do some of the legwork to decide because they are ultimately very close. I love my Sony and I'm confident everyone except maybe the most discerning videophiles will too.

First I’ve been a Sony guy since I could afford one. With that said, if tooth like quality, you’ll love Sony. My first Sony tv lasted 15 years until I upgraded to the latest 1080p technology and donated it. It was still running btw. It’s been 10 years since my 1080p purchase and I decided to buy this tv to keep up with the time. While I was really impressed with the Sony OLED tv, it’s was 2k more and the burn in warnings scared me off, especially since the tv will stay on one channel all day long. This tv has the latest processor and all the quality that a top LED with backlit technology tv can give you. Yes, Sony is always pricey but for quality that lasts a really long time, Sony is the one for me.

A lot of respect to Sony for designing a high end TV like the X950G at such a good price. I recently purchased the 55” and after having it for a few days, I couldn’t be any happier with my choice. For those tv enthusiasts, you may be unhappy with the blacks and the reflection off the whites, however, the reflections off whites can be sometimes unnoticeable. These issues could have been easily fixed on Sony’s end, but then again, why would they if they have other tv’s at a higher price range that don’t have these issues and/or offers better overall quality and features. It can possibly be a marketing strategy and it would defeat the purpose of having higher end TVs. But believe me when I tell you that everything else this TV has to offer can overpower those few things it doesn’t work well on. Overall, this TV is an excellent choice for those looking for an amazing tv with a very good design, sound and excellent image quality to watch movies, tv shows, and/or for gaming under $1,500! Also, can’t forget about the incredible processor that Sony has implemented in the new X950G series. It just gives you a very satisfying experience
FYI: Yes, of course there are better options out there and plenty of debates/arguments on the new QLED, OLED or other TVs. Especially the Samsung Q80/90, however, you WILL be without a doubt spending more money to get something better. Like I said, for the price you can’t go wrong with the X950G.

The picture is super bright and the colors are true and real life. The remote is awesome and the processor super fast. The smart functionality works well. Those are the positives. The viewing angle is really bad. If your anything but straight with the TV the side furthest from you will look washed out. The side nearest you is brighter . I’m talking about just 20 degrees off angle . It’s very noticeable . The TV has very few dimming zones and at times you actually notice the light flicker in the background . Some blooming also results from this. These are the issues. I returned mine.

This was a replacedment for a 2016 Vizio P-50 series that was developing "Dirty Screen Effect". I like Vizio and the P-50 was my 2nd television by Vizio. They just seem to start degrading in quality after couple of years so I wanted to upgrade with this purchase.
The Sony 950G is a 1/2 step up from the 900F of last year (which continues to be sold into 2019). Main differences are that ALL HDMI ports are broadband , the TV is IMAX certified and Sony used it's X- Ultimate processing chip (same as in the OLED) and one port is "E-Arc" for Dolby DTS and ATMOS passthrough.
The picture is amazing. After a day of playing with settings the picture in both SDR and HDR is VERY accurate with out the over -saturation common with Samsungs. It's a TV for those who want the most realistic looking colors and resolution.
My ONLY negative is more of an irritation that a major issue. I am using a 5.1 Atmos soundbar into the HDMI E-Arc port. Whenever the TV is first tuned on it seems like it takes forever to change soundout put from internal to external speakers. I can't recall any other TV I've owned have this slow of a "handshake" problem.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes most defintely..but with caveats and a recommendation for patience. The picture from the 950G is worth the hassel in my opinion.

I did a ton of research before settling on the X950G, and I have to say that while my wallet is depressed, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Cost aside, this was the best TV I could buy within my budget of under $1500. Android TV is smooth thanks to the upgraded processor from last years X900F, input lag is great for gaming, and the picture quality out of the box is fantastic. Viewing pure 4k HDR content is a joy. If you are ok with some android TV lag when navigating through menus, and you aren't a gamer, save a few hundred bucks and go with the X900F. Otherwise, you won't be disappointed with the X950G at all.

So I used to buy Sony only back when it was the Bravia sets of LCD and before that point but they slipped in value around that time and I moved on to Samsung. With the advent of lots of streaming now the samsungs that I have owned and the one 65 I have left that is a year older than this tv are no where near as good as this google equiped TV. The setup is cake and the quality is through the roof but you will pay for it.

This is a truly superb model. Excellent brilliant smooth sharp rich colors. Great feature selections (Cinema, etc. ) for sound and picture. Sony out did themselves and its a bout time. Few years ago I had purchased 850C; It out class this older model. I see tremendous differences. It's improved better setup menus. Which you really only need tweak a bit for your type of viewing you feel comfortable with.
The sound is great & better improved. I have a sound bar but I don't use it. Much louder than my other Sony 850C and even Samsung TV models before 2016 in my past. Compared with Smart bigger thinner screens out there, they loose sound quality then force to buy a sound bar. Again, NOT really necessarily. Try it out first without before at home, a sound test with TV shows & DVD Movies.
Now, Last thing, Sony heard the cries of Sony Reviews of the past. Made a special great quality remote. Not a cheap delicate plastic remote. An metallic top finish and underneath is a grainy feel hard plastic. Just imagine; to describe it best like a marble stone not polish yet! Sleek in design long thin remote. It just totally cool, awesome look & feel to it. This remote complements the high class top of the line TV. Deserves a quality feel & texture your hand to give its command. Forgot to mention remote has Google Assistant Voice activated. The TV is well price and most worthy!
Any other Sony model before Sony 900 F. Could be use as a bedroom TV Set or gather dust in a warehouse or sold to third world country.
Spend money wisely enjoy elegance & excellence this Sony Model 950G to offer!

Great TV for the price. I looked at a 900 model which was actually more expensive and had a plastic remote. This tv was comparable with the stainless style remote, all the same Sony features and processor with a smaller price tag. The picture is great and blacks are very nice. It was easy to set up and use the smart tv options. The remote links to your cable box very easily to control tv and external devices. The only draw back that I’ve seen is the sound system which is expected on larger flat screens with smaller speakers. I have a home theater system already so for me it wasn’t an issue. If you want the most out of this tv for football or movies get a sound bar or some kind of speaker system. Other than that it’s an awesome tv.

Purchased a 55" Sony 950G in June. Great Picture. I was looking at a Samsung but chose the Sony because it had a better Processor and therefore better upscaling. Sony also has a full function Remote as opposed to Samsung which has a touch pad and very few Keys. So far the Sony is a great TV.

Being an owner of a LG OLED and a Samsung QLED, you get the best of both worlds in one. For example you get the picturel quality of an OLED and brightness of a QLED while still being able to game with ease. The only downfall is that you have to pay a lot more for this tv than most, but for me it was worth every penny.

Sony X950G so far has been great, good picture quality, good blanks, requires a bit of calibration. The Android Google system is working great. Very nice remote with aluminum top. Very fast processor, apps open instantly. My 2016 X850C is working great so I'm hoping the 950G is the same.

We are extremely pleased with our new Sony x950g TV! set-up was easy. The only setting we changed was the picture setting which we changed to Cinema,,,great picture!!!
Sound is very good when in surround sound or TV speakers.
Only disappointment so far is the remote should have lighted buttons for use in darkened room.
Sports viewing is EXCELLENT!!! Black color is very good, as are the thousands of colors throughout!
I highly recommend this TV.

Yes it’s more than I wanted to pay for my Tv. However, after looking at the rest of the displays I kept coming back to this one. Knew I wouldn’t be happy if I had brought another set home.
If you’re a gamer this is a great TV. Don’t have to worry about burn-in and the blacks pop pretty nice. Haven’t noticed any lag issues either.
If I had the extra cash I would have had them come out and calibrate. I know there’s more potential there than what I can get out of it.

Using the built-in apps has grown on me. Initially had an issue with the loss of sound during streaming while using an A/V receiver but after a recent OTA software update for both devices the issue has not happened. Picture is excellent, the brightness takes getting used to after watching on an older LCD. Brightness control is one button push away for easy adjustment.
