Great picture quality, full array local dimming with a good amount of zones, dolby vision bright and dark, and it has one HDMI port that can do 4k @ 60 hz. Solid option for price.

Very satisfied and rather astounded at the picture quality, built-in apps and compatibility. Was easy to setup and get online. Even the remote which has a metal case speaks quality.

TV is great. Wonderful picture. Having a smart TV is neat too. The salesman was nice too. I think my girlfriend went out and bought the same TV, too, after I told her about it.

This tv is very nice, I also have the 900F version for a different room. They are almost the same.
Not much of a difference between the two. Except the price. I still love Sony products. The games and 4K movies look awesome. The only aspect I am disappointed is the voice command. It just does not work. I tried looking it up on YouTube but could not figure it how to make it work.

Great picture, but Android TV holds it back

Great picture, but Android TV holds it back, way back. Seems like very few apps are compatible with the Sony version of Android TV compared to some other name makers versions of Android TV. I have had to power cycle the TV at least once a week to fix hangs in Android. It does work great with ChromeCast and was not difficult to set up. AirPlay basically worked as soon as I activated Bluetooth on the mobile and selected the TV although I have had occasional random drops that needed reconnected. We use it mostly from digital streaming but have used cable sources as well as over-the-air and all work equally well. Internal speakers are painfully typical but we got the sound bar with it and it sounds great. We can't justify adding the back speakers yet.

Netflix UHD content looks great. Was easy to hang on the wall. I don’t love Android TV and I wish the remote was universal, so that it could control volume on the non-Sony sound bar. If those two things don’t matter to you, it’s probably five stars.

Since my Samsung Plasma was on its way out I tried to find the best set for fluid motion as I watch a lot of Hockey. So sad to see plasma go away. The latest processor Sony is using seems to be good. Vapor trail behind puck is tolerable and not stressing me out as much as I thought it might. Excellent out of the box color and only needed to make some minor setting adjustments to get it just where I want it. Would recommend this set.

Purchased my 55inch x950g yesterday from Best Buy. I got it with a Sony Ht-x9000f sound bar that is compatible with eARC.
This is replacing the LG C8 OLED TV in my bedroom. I had that for about a month but now I'm returning it.
This is primarily used with a PC as a media/gaming device attached to it, no TV stations. C8 wasn't cutting it for PC use.
Impressions:
-Much brighter than the C8. Which works for me. My bedroom is a very bright room environment.
-eARC works great. Got Dolby Atoms up and running in just a few minutes. Even more important it always works with the x950g!
Dolby Atoms on the LG C8 would crash often, I would have to reset my computer/TV often to fix it.
-Response time, motion, gradiance look better than the C8 in my opinion.
-No more worries about burn-in is a relief. I can just leave my TV on now for hours on end with static images.
-Ran all the Dirty Screen Effect (DSE) & Uniformity tests.
-NO DSE on the TV at all. But uniformity is a little off. The corners and edges of the screen are darker than the middle.
Sad about:
-The Black levels on the x950g compared to the OLED are much worse. I was playing RE 2 remake as a test and some 4k movies. Huge Difference!
-There is often noticeable blooming on the 950g from the local dimming and blacks appear greyish.
-Watched a couple letterbox movies the blooming extends into the Black bars. Kind of annoying.
So final conclusion. x950g is a solid above average performer. I'm keeping it. C8 is going to be returned.
For a bedroom TV for PC use this is perfect for me. I would not use this as my primary Living Room TV. Vizio Quantum has that job and is way better at local dimming and deeper blacks.
In my opinion, if Sony would had just put 100+ dimming zones in this TV it could have been a top contender for best TV. Perhaps they are doing that with the Z9G so they didnt want to make this TV too good.

We purchased our Sony 950g television after our 3 year old Samsung stopped working. The Samsung picture kept getting smaller and smaller. After back and forth with Best Buy techs, it was determined that it was irreparable at a reasonable cost. So, after some looking around and reading reviews, we purchased the 55" Sony 950g in mid November and took possession of it right before Thanksgiving and it is working wonderfully. It is much easier to operate than our Samsung was. I'm hoping that it will last longer than 3 years. I will update my review as time moves on but we're very happy with it right now.

Hi Peted49, Awesome! We're very pleased to hear that you're upgraded to our X950G TV. Good to know that your satisfied with your purchase. With this, the X950G’s Full Array Local Dimming and Boosting technology provides a dramatic increase in contrast and brightness, while X-Motion Clarity works to smooth our motion blur from sports, action, and gaming content. The TV also has unmatched processing power, from the X1™ Ultimate, that detects hundreds of different objects on-screen. It intelligently enhances brightness, detail, and color, so everything you watch is clear, bright, and incredibly realistic. Thanks for choosing Sony! We look forward to seeing more of your reviews in the future! -Sam

Our main tv which was a Sony recently bit the dust. While trying to find a replacement, we had purchased and returned 2 lower end Sony's and had to return them (from another store). The first one went out after 60 days, and the second just didn't have a good picture. Also tried a Samsung (from another store) that picture was even worse. Returned that. Ended up at Best Buy and so far I am liking the picture and options of this tv. It us superior to anything under the 900 series. But I do have to say our tv that bit the dust had an awesome picture from any angle and had 3d capability. Even though we didn't use the tv in that mode it had the best picture ever. The depth of pictures, and characters were awesome. I don't no why Sony had decided to leave that technology behind.

Great tv. Replaced a much older hdtv. Easy to setup and run the smart tv apps. Picture quality is amazing with native 4K content. Upscales 1080P content real nicely too. Only complaints I have is: The “hey google” phrase can trigger the sound to not work. Took me a few times to figure it out. I eventually just shut that option off all together. Even tv commercials for the hey google would trigger it. Which is was surprising too. I also would of liked a button on the remote to make the rest of the buttons glow to see in the dark what buttons we are pressing. My older tv had it. The Netflix calibrated mode was interesting, not sure I like it. Makes the screen look filtered and not vibrant. Which is a reason you upgrade to a tv like this, 4K HDR with great resolution and color!

I usually don't watch TV much. I bought this primarily to watch some DVDs as I have quite a few from the Great Courses. I am pleased with the image quality of it but kind of expect it as it is after all a Sony. I am still learning how to use it especially when combines with the external sound systems. One thing bothers me is there is no airplay 2 as that's one of the reason I bought this model. I did check with the Sony guy at Hawthorne store. A very articulate, fast-talking guy and he seems to be quite knowledgeable. He assures me that it will come out around September or so as Sony still deals with Apple. I certainly hope so.
