I became aware of this model by doing an online search of TV's and comparing ratings. The 900E model received consistently high ratings, and my experience thus far confirms the excellence of this unit. Along with very good 4K upscaling, the color accuracy appears terrific. The major problems that most reviews found were sub-par audio and limited viewing angle. While I agree that the built in audio is weak, I typically route the sound through a home theater receiver, so this is a non-issue. Additionally, I have had not problem with off-axis video viewing, as our seating arrangement rarely gets larger than 30 degrees to one side. The TV has plenty of inputs and outputs, including a headphone jack (which is pretty unusual). I was surprised to find that an adapter is required to use the second Component Input, but that is not big problem. Finally, the stand for the TV is very solid, and the unit is very stable, given it's thin form factor. I miss the swivel stand of our old TV, but otherwise it is great.

This tv has such amazing picture, have it connected to my comcast x-1 HD, even without 4k it's just amazing, the upscaling is incredible, was considering getting an oled, but after seeing what oled looks like with regular cable HD, this tv blows oled away, no comparison, oled is only better in true 4k, which is something you don't get with regular cable, so don't waste your money on a oled, the sony 930 e version is a little better than this one, but not worth another grand, this is the tv to get, it's worth the price, especially with this model having the back lit with local dimming, it's really so much better than edge lit tv's,
The motion flow is great, the color is unbelievable, the blacks is, well black, lol
I have made no adjustments, it was just great out of the box with factory settings, you will not be disappointed

I bought this TV to replace a Mitsubishi DLP set. All I can say is WOW. I had been set on a less expensive model until I saw this. Back lighting with local dimming makes all the difference - the blacks really make a phenomenal difference. In 4K, the picture is astonishing. With HD programs, the upscaling really makes the picture come alive - much better than HD should look. Another great feature is being able to turn off the picture. I often use music streaming like Pandora - while its going, push a botton on the remote and the screen will turn off. Push it again and it comes back on instantly This set is also listed as specifically compatible with Direct TV. If you buy any TV with 4K, ensure it is compatible with your cable or satellite provided first to get the best results. One slight issue is the stand: It looks great and is sturdy, but tilts the set back slightly so that I get ceiling light reflections. To fix this, I put a 3/8 thick block under each rear leg to level it out. This may not be an issue for you depending on your TV location. All in all, for the price difference between this and an OLED - I can't see much reason to spent the additional money for little difference in picture quality. In short - I love this SET.

I currently own, or have at least tried, a number of Sony televisions (TV's in general, really) from 49" to 75". The 900E series televisions are, overall, an excellent offering in terms of features and picture quality.
All of the sizes have an excellent picture and color, but the 65" offers an "immersive experience" that's only topped by the 75" version of this set.
Last year's high-end models seemed to be more "hit or miss" in terms of whether the set you got was going to have a quality picture day 1, and how long it would hold up. The 2017 TV's seem to be much more consistent in terms of initial build quality and holding up over time.
Bear in mind that you absolutely CAN use the TV with the default settings from Sony, and having it calibrated WILL take you a short bit of time to get used to. However, a calibrated picture on these TV's is absolutely excellent. The downside is that it might show you that the quality of the signal you've been running to your old TV isn't all that nice and you'll be itching to upgrade your source options. :)
Netflix and Amazon Video with 4K (and the options also available with HDR) are beautiful. High quality video sources of any kind, really, look excellent. Keep in mind that a 4K movie of a Charlie Chaplin film isn't going to be representative of the best quality available. I have standard DVD's that look excellent on this set and BluRay movies that are "ok". If you have high quality material to send to the TV, it will make you smile to watch it on this set.
If a 65" TV will fit in your viewing area, and you can make the cost fit in your budget, this is absolutely the TV to own.

First new TV in 15 years after Sony 51” Rear Projection finally stopped working. After much research, chose this model. Very glad I did. Very easy to set up everything. Unbelievable picture. Added the Bose 5 Soundbar for much better sound. Being old school and even though I am ridiculed for reading owners manuals, would have loved a printed copy rather than reading it off the Sony web page. Couldn’t be more pleased with this TV.

I considered OLED before purchasing the Sony 900e but there seems to be some burn in or image retention problems with OLED I had a plasma for 7 years and avoided burn in so I didn't want to worry about that problem anymore.which helps.
The 900e has a great picture and while not quite as good as OLED overall it is close in my opinion. It does surpass OLED in brightness. The picture was better than every LED I looked at a similar price,
The apps are clunky at times which many others have stated but the picture should be the main priority and it is excellent.

I formerly was in the AV business and was ISF certified in imaging calibration back in the day (circa early 2000s). I feel I am a very demanding consumer and sensitive to color balance, black level, problems with crushed blacks, aliasing, etc., etc. My calibration equipment in not suites to the latest screen technology, but I looked up some settings in the web, and after making those adjustments, I am completely satisfied with this TV, which is replacing my beloved top of the line THX rated 50” Panasonic plasma. This is the first non-OLED, non-plasma that I find completely satisfying to watch. Yes, the color and contrast wash if you move far off axis, but not a problem in my room. Like all thin screens with thin frames, the sound sucks—but that is a given with these TVs. What I needed was a great picture for movies, sports, streaming, etc.; I am handling the sound separately. Love what I got and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

So far the X900E is a fantastic TV. Clarity is excellent! Colors are exceptional! Solid blacks and bold colors. The TV needs a tutorial as it is very complex and has a lot of user options for very aspect of TV's functions. This is something Sony needs to address. Youtube is the only place to find all the options and adjustments/fine tuning available for this TV. Best picture on the market for the price!!!!

This TV is absolutely amazing. It is hands down worth every penny. The picture quality is astonishing and works seamlessly with all my devices. Also the built in tuner works very well with an HDTV antenna to pickup local channels in the area and has a built in guide. Native 120hz, XHDR PRO and FULL ARRAY LOCAL DIMMING!!! If you are looking for a high end tv without going OLED, then this is perfect choice!

This tv has what we were looking for - great picture, good sound, and easy to use with a cable tuner box. The remote paired up easily with the cable box. Make sure you get the right HDMI cable (need to purchase) and use the IR Blaster connection that comes with the set. TV has a lot of extra features (apps) that I don't think we may use but good to have. TV can be controlled by an android phone also.

First off, I love this TV. Picture quality is awesome, and the features have made it easy to use for my not-tech family, as well. My biggest issue is that when I got it set up, the lag for doing anything with it was ridiculous. I was very frustrated, and thought that I screwed up on my selection.
However, I looked up lag issues for this series and found that within the Android software, you can enter as a developer and change the number of background tasks that are occurring. Once I did that, this TV rocks. No more lag issues, and it's a great TV. Without that change, I think it's borderline not usable.

I recently had an edge lit 60" Samsung tv and had many problems with it over the past 3 years. Inconsistent black levels, dead pixel lines, and poor construction. Recently the screen went dead on it so I turned my attention towards the Sony X900 series.....and I will never look back.
I basically use this tv for playing video games, blu-ray, and 4k movies through my xbox one x. I also run my cable box and PS4 through a receiver and then into the tv as well. The black levels on this tv are excellent since it is a full array. I did not even have to go crazy with the settings as with some of my past tv's. HDR gaming on this set is just beautiful. No frame rate drops at all. 4K movies colors just pop. Blu-ray upscalling is also very good here. No color bleeding at all. The whites are bright and the blacks are dark while still showing details. No crushing. Very good control features to balance both as well.
Viewing angles are what you would expect on an LCD. Sit to far to the right or left and you will notice the picture color to degrade, but this is much better here than most tv's. You might see reflections on the screen if you are attempting to put this into a well lit room. A room that lets in a lot of sun light during the day will make the screen appear dim. Also any lights in the room will cast a reflection. This is quite common with any LCD tv so I'm not even listing it as a deterrent but just so you are aware of it.
You are basically buying the closest thing to an OLED tv for a fraction of the price.
WARNING - when hooking up an HDR device (xbox one x, 4k player, PS4 pro) the port will not natively determine that it is an HDR device. If you hit the display button it will even say 2160p but you will not be seeing an HDR picture. You must go into the "option" menu, not the picture adjust menu, to adjust the port to enable HDR. Once you do this for the HDMI port everything will be fine. Nothing in the manual will tell you this and it is not very intuitive on how to reach the "options" menu so I figured I would pass this along. Also use HDMI port 2 and 3 when hooking up 4k HDR for the best result. Port 3 also has ARC if your receiver supports it. For more preferred settings go to Rtings.com and look this set up.
I cannot recommend this set enough for anyone that truly enjoys seeing a great HDR 4k picture without breaking the bank.
Sony for life!!

I bought this tv to replace my ancient 32" flat screen. I've never cared too much about resolutions and HD and pixels and all that. If I can see it, I'm happy. If I can hear it, even better.
I went into BB because I wanted to get an idea of what size 55" and 65" actually felt like (I did not get a good feel because I couldn't resolve the fact that visually, BB is a much bigger space). I ultimately just wanted to TV that would easily connect to Alexa. The Amazon TVs were getting terrible reviews and I didn't want to use a hub and have a 6 second delay between issuing the command and the TV responding. This TV connects directly to the Echo which means all I have to say is, "Alexa - turn The Beast on" and 1 second later, it's on.
I'm still figuring out the voice commands... On and off are easy but changing inputs or pausing shows proves to be more cumbersome.
I'm very happy with the TV though I'm easy to impress. Even with my extremely limited knowledge, the TV was a breeze to install and setup. Would buy again.

We have several Samsung tv's in the house and an older 60" Sony. Was a very happy with the Sony but the quality went down which made us look at another brand. Samsung won us over. When the old Sony started giving up the ghost it wa s time to search for a new big screen. Almost bought another Samsung until the Best Buy associate showed us the new sony's. Wow, we were impressed. So we chose the 65" and never looked back. It is more expensive than the Samsung but don't be shy. Open the wallet and get the best, you owe it to yourself. This is one that will be watched for many years to come.
Buying at Best Buy is a wise decision over the big box stores and they do match prices of equal products so purchase with confidence.

This television is great! I have seen better TVs, but you're going to be paying a significant amount of money over this already expensive (but affordable) TV. The viewing angles are really good, in fact, i cannot find any complaints. The picture quality is very good when using all inputs. I currently use the latest generation Apple TV that is not 4K, I use a PS4 Pro, XBOX one X, mirror my iPhone, Fios, and I have used the new NES Classic. Sound is average when it comes to how loud it can go. I have considered getting an audio system. I have received many complements on this TV. There is only 4 HDMI ports which we can all agree, we need more. HDMI switchers are too expensive. There is a very handy TV app for this TV and it works flawlessly, it controls everything that the issued remote can control; it even controls my Apple TV and Fios.

Have been a Samsung fan for years. Always had to purchase the higher series numbers for better picture quality.
Now I was a big supporter of Sony years ago but the picture quality and equipment quality went down so I moved over to Samsung. Now I'm back with Sony and for good reason. Their product is a much higher quality that Samsung and the picture is outstanding. The best buy representative did his job selling this tv by knowing the product line.
Like all of the reviews I've read the tv is everything they say it is.

It was between this tv and the 65” 930. I thought the 930 had a little brighter picture, even though edge lit and had Dolby Vision support but wasn’t worth the $500 premium for that. Very little Dolby Vision content and not sure if it will be better than HDR 10 or even if format will take off
