I was looking to replace my LG OLED65B7A and was going to either go with the LG OLED65C8PUA or the A9F. The A9F was so much more expensive, but I did this at the right time. Local Best Buy had one on open box clearance for $1899. I was so stoked, but when I got there it was missing the remote (no biggie) but right as I was going to buy it the Geek Squad guy noticed a dead/stuck pixel at the bottom. Total bummer! That said, Marshall at Crystal Lake was INCREDIBLE! He told me two other stores by me had it, same condition (Satisfactory) for the exact same price. A bit leery, but I went to one of the stores before talking to Peter from the Magnolia department over the phone. He said he was surprised theirs was marked down for $1899 because it was legit in mint condition, only used for about 3 months on the floor. I got there, and was blown away - all accessories included, TV was in MINT condition, zero issues, we ran pixel tests, checked for Dirty Screen Effect, checked for burn in, etc. ZERO issues. Bought it, brought it home, set it up, and the rest is history. This TV is INSANE. We use a Dolby Atmos sound system, but not going to lie here - the built in sound capabilities of this TV was AMAZING! I never thought a TV with actuators behind the glass and subs in the stand could produce this kind of sound. Seriously, amazing stuff here folks. Dolby Vision looks great, Android TV OS worked incredibly, easily added a thumb drive for 256GB of additional storage, all my inputs worked great. I've had OLED TVs for years (all LG) and while they are amazing as well, this one is in a class in and of itself. If you can find a deal like I found, this is an absolute no brainer - period. Huge shout out to both Marshall at Crystal Lake and Peter in South Elgin. Went far above and beyond for me and I couldn't be happier. #customerforlife :-). Sticker price $4499, walked out spending $1899 and honestly it's probably the best tech deal I've ever had. If I had any negative to say about the TV, the remote is... well... super old fashioned, kind of blah lol. Luckily I had two additional Android TV remotes I bought for my Nvidia Shield that I never used that immediately hooked up to the TV, zero issues. They work perfectly. Going to use a Harmony Ultimate so I can easily switch inputs to my gaming consoles and such, but for regular day to day use, the aftermarket remote I have works like a dream. Also, the fact that Google Assistant works with just my voice out of the box was incredible. I had to agree to one thing on the TV and it just worked perfectly after that. I would HIGHLY recommend this TV if you have the scratch for it. Enjoy!

I purchased this set to replace my Panasonic Plasma which had a great picture. Upgrading to 4K required some research as I wanted a set that ranked well on comparison tests. I decided the Sony A9F fit the bill, and I was not disappointed. Picture is breathtaking, colors vibrant and 4K content is outstanding. Hard to be find any cons with this set, except the built in speakers which I would rate adequate. I use my home theater system most of the time so don’t rely on them on a regular basis. I don’t think you can go wrong with this top of the line set.

Let me first start my sentence by saying that this tv is phenomenal! Picture is spectacular, with everything from color, image, brightness and sound. I have had multiple TVs in the past from LCD, Plasmas and a projector. The reason why I’m not giving it a 5 star is because of the menu and proper notifications. Sony did a good job indicating if you are watching Dolby Vision or not. However, I wish they have another notification if you’re watching HDR, HDR10 and IMAX Enhanced content. I hope Sony comes up with a firmware update with notifications. The reason I give this TV a 4 star is because of menu. The menu screen is not really intuitive and the options are really all over the board. Besides that, the tv picture will blow you away.

The Sony A9F OLED TVs are simply put the very best you can buy. Yes, they are more expensive. Yes, if you want the best they are worth it. Up to you whether the cost is justified.
A1E/A8F - Lacking full color calibration settings, clunky Android TVOS, lacks punch in HDR and has only two full-bandwidth HDMI ports.
LG C8 - Sub par motion handling. You can literally see the screen skipping during slow pans, HDR is bright but lacks detail in the bright whites and dark blacks (crushes brights and darks) and still has color banding issues though it is slightly better than last year. Up-conversion of less than 4k signals isn't that good. Expect to see lots of noise and artifacts. However, this TV is a good OLED value set (price/performance).
A9F - Closest to a ref. monitor ever produced for a commercially sold television. Handles HDR tone-mapping beautifully. No loss of detail in the bright whites and dark blacks. Handles motion interpolation beautifully with good controls to manage to your likeness. Hands down... the best TV to up-convert all video signals period! If you watch 1080 signals or even lower resolutions, you absolutely have to check out this set. It is really difficult to tell a difference between a 1080 and 4K signal. Up conversion is that good! Sound is really good and will make most people question whether they need a sound bar. Not better; but really good! I personally love that you can't see the stand and that the image is unobstructed by a TV stand or screen border that reflects light that takes away from the experience. Plus, the new Android OS is as speedy as LGs WebOS and has the added bonus of Android App support. And for Gamers, the input lag has been improved and sits below 30 milliseconds in 4k and 1080 gaming.
As for LCD TVs, just skip them if you have the money. Unless you are on a budget under $1,500 or have a fear you may be in a situation where screen retention could be an issue.
I've read all the reviews and seen all the OLED TVs. I've also spent time with all 4 of the OLED TVs listed in this review. The A9F is the king!! Believe the hype and enjoy the best at home viewing experience on a flat panel TV yet possible. Until next year!

I was originally going to buy the Samsung C8 based on reviews and the price. Once we got to the store and started comparing the TV's in Magnolia the Sony A8F/A9F were clearly superior to my eye. The contrast, color accuracy, motion, and crispness of the picture were noticeably better with the Sony. My original budget was around $2500, so I actually purchased the last brand new 65" A8F TV they had as it was a close 2nd to the A9F.
The day after I bought it I decided to look for open box units on a whim and found an open box 65" A9F at a BB store about an hour away for $350 less than I pad for the A8F. So needless to say I took the unopened A8F back and scored an A9F for about the price of the LG C8. Yes, I am very happy!
THe A9F actually has a depth to the picture. Its hard to describe, but most of the TV's looks like a picture on a flat panel, this TV has an an actual depth to the images (Not 3D). The blacks are amazing, its is true black whether watching in daylight, or in a dark room with no lights on you cannot tell where the TV ends and the wall begins.
After calibrating using a guide I found on RTings I think the TV looks much better, very accurate and lifelike. I know some people like the oversaturated, bright images of many LCD TV's and you can get that look from this set if you want, but I like things more true to life. This TV delivers excellent picture qualty, especially with 4k content.
I run a 5.1 surround w/front height speakers and my mains bi-amped. I heard the sound from the TV was very good so I had to try it out. I must say I was very impressed with the sound just from the set! If you dont have the space, money or deire for surround sound then I believe almost everyone would be more than happy with the TV's sound. The bass is deep thanks to the built-in subwoofer, the voices accurate and background sounds/music pretty detailed. It's very cool that it used the TV panel as a large speaker!
The Android TV apps respond quickly and are pretty easy to use. The Sony menu's could be improved, but aren't that bad. The remote looks and feels like something from a mid-range TV from 2000, Sony could really up their game there. The settings are saved by input, they are not universal. So if you change settings on HDMI 3 and plug something into HDMI4 it'll still have the default settings. This is both good and bad depending on your setup.
Overall, I would buy this TV again (or the now current A9G) for full price in a heartbeat. If you're in the market, and have the budget get one of these, you wont be disappointed!

We waited 14 years for flat-panel TV technology to mature, and we finally took the plunge and went with the 65-inch A9F Sony Bravia along with Sony's HTST5000 home theater sound bar with included subwoofer, and UBPX800 BluRay player. Wow! What a quantum leap from the old CRT TV, speakers and outdated DVD player! We're now enjoying HD movie streams and 4K UHD BluRay DVDs. Picture quality and sound from the TV are outstanding. The TV's integrated screen speaker with small angled/downward-firing woofers provide enough volume for most TV programs, and drama-type films. For big-action and Sci-Fi films Sony's HTST5000 home theater sound system (with included subwoofer) fills our mid-size great room with palpable realism. We spent a grand-total of $7200 for the entire Sony set-up including wire connectors, furniture, and upgraded cable box (to receive HD programming). We are really happy with our Sony home theater, and will enjoy it for many years.

Secured as an open box; floor model. Given the amount of hours this has been on, it looks pretty awesome. I own the competitors C series and does not compare. Colors are brighter and more vibrant without saturating the picture. The darks are a lot easier to view than my other TV. The 5 degree angle, which the kickstand provides, also reduces the glare. A big help in a well lit room. Something that may not have been popular with other customers as the A9G did away with the kickstand. Moving from a 55” to 65” is a decision I appreciate. The 55” is great, but the extra landscape is easier on the eyes. Having thoughts of possibly moving to the 75”, but am holding for the moment. Definitely no regrets. Have put it through the paces already (sports, 4K movies, Netflix , console games). Plan to mount it next.
Would give it a 4 as Best Buy’s policy did not give me the 5% rewards since it’s an open box. But would not feel right as it’s not a reflection of the TV.

I was so excited and very unpatient to get this TV, once I got it I didn't think it would be this heavy! I owed a Sony almost 10 year old TV and you would think older TV is heavier then newer one but this model, anyway, when it comes to this TV I can just say, THAT PICTURE QUALITY THOUGH! Makes you wanna find more 4k media, but anything you watch the quality is just outstanding, it's really pricey TV but long run it's worth it! I would recommend this to anyone

This was my 1st OLED and so glad that I did. Recently moved into a new house and had this mounted on the wall. Love the colors and the ability to get 4K when available and movies that have it. The center speaker in the TV is a new addition for Sony and made not having to get a soundbar as I have speadker system already in the walls of the house.

The Good: This TV is phenomenal. Blacks so deep that you can't tell if it's on or off. I had a X850C which was a nice 4K TV, I've held off upgrading because I didn't think there would be much difference. I was wrong, they aren't even in the same league. If you're on the fence go for it. PS4 Pro looks better than ever, eARC pass-thru is a huge upgrade that allows better audio pass thru to my soundbar. And Netflix Calibrated mode makes everything on Netflix look a bit better.
Could Be Better: Google Home / Assistant doesn't work very well. And I don't like that you can't turn off the embedded mic in the TV. It will catch soundbar audio and think I'm asking it something.
Be careful: this is not an LED/LCD screen, it's super thin and you def need 2 people to set it up and/or hang it. Read instructions on how to clean it so you don't damage the screen, it's much more sensitive than a LED/LCD

I have been an "LG" person for years and LG is a very good TV. This SONY Bravia OLED is something else; extremely sharp picture with real definition. The color is very crisp and the black is an absolute black. My most surprising find with Sony is that I see a level of depth in the picture; not significant but, it is there. Happy that I decided on quality vs size this time. Amazing TV with significant difference.

The picture quality is ridiculous. While the tv is pretty pricey, the characteristics of this tv make it worth the price. The only that I would change is the stand. It's a prop style and made me nervous as it didn't seem overly sturdy and took up a great deal of space on our entertainment center. Since mounting it on the wall, I have felt much more comfortable with its placement.

We purchased as a display so we got the warranty. The OLED picture is strikingly better than anything else. blacks are darker, colors are more dramatic and image is more accurate. We do notice that non-4k sources are recognizably inferior (just as 1080p TV's show how non-HD sources were inferior just a few years ago).
Smart functions are easy to navigate and quick to switch. We have a soundbar but the sound is actually very good without it (just not as good). For larger TV's, the extra money is worth it because the image is that good.

I owned the original LG OLED when they first came out and unfortunately it got a burn in, so I swapped it for a Sony Z9d. Yes I loved the Z9d but decided to upgrade it to the new Sony 65 A9F and I could not be happier. I love the picture, sound, how well Android runs and most importantly the upscale pic. I love how different it is and how it angle back a little, gives it its own style.

This was an open item. Even then, it was too expensive for my budget. (That's why I gave it a 4-star on Best Buy.) Though, the TV itself is amazing. It has an excellent quality image and user-friendly interface. Only feature I don't like is that searching with a on-screen keyboard. One has to go with the arrow keys on the remote control 1 by 1 and type the entire title. Voice search helps when possible and understands you correctly. For a TV like this, the remote should be point and click (just like Samsung). If I knew this before this purchase, I would still buy this TV. Very amazing experience.

I bought this TV with high hopes. But after a month now Some thing are still bothering me. First the sound is probably on of the worst TV's I have ever owned. I have 2 other Sony TV's and 1 LG and they are all way better. I don't like how the TV sits at a slant and directly on our glass stand. I feel like the could have propped it up a little. The Kickstand on the back is really big and not necessary. The picture looks great but very dark. This is a over priced TV and I would wait until a better version.

I picked this up for fantastic image quality and a very specific usecase, and I couldn't be happier. Images really pop, and this version of Android TV is quite responsive. As far as the usecase, this TV is above a fireplace on a downward articulating swivel mount. This means that the sound has to move with the screen for the best experience. Acoustic Audio+ is great for this!

I read all the reviews about brightness in OLED vs LED and after experiencing this OLED for the first time, I can say they're all correct. I've had a 2017 55 Sony LED and am comparing this product to that one.
Picture/Brightness: I have a lot of natural sunlight in my family room that's difficult to block and the windows are directly across from the TV, so it's the least ideal setup, but one that I'm stuck with for now. My blinds are somewhat thin and still let light in when they're down. This caused a greater reflection in the panel than I'm used to. This TV has a glassy/reflective finish as opposed to the more matte finish of my other Sony LED. Think of how an iPhone reflects in the sunlight. The difference in brightness is basically this - the OLED on Vivid is about the same as an LED on Standard.
I read many professional reviews that scared me a bit after saying the brightness is a lot lower on an OLED vs LED, while regular users said it's plenty bright and I'll side a bit more with regular reviewers. If you weren't comparing an OLED to an LED and didn't know any better, the brightness would be just fine.
When there isn't as much sunlight or especially in the evening, the picture is stellar and I can see the difference in the OLED vs LED. The image seems sharper and more like I'm in the room with the movie characters. The first time I played a movie on it in the evening I literally said, "wow."
Aesthetics: I thought I would like the kickstand design, but this was the final nail in the coffin for me. My TV stand is about 60" long and without a gap between the TV and the stand, it looked like one giant piece of furniture. I'm unable to hang the TV so I decided a stand with a gap between the bottom of the screen and the stand looked better.
Conclusion: For my sunny room, the Glossy/reflective finish, less brightness than an LED, non-conventional stand, premium pricing for an OLED = Returned.
