After buying a refurbished samsung q7 at micro center which didn't work (no wonder they had 7 in stock) , then a floor model OLED which was burned in ( I know.. who'd buy a floor model OLED that played the same thing for a year and expect otherwise? ) I finally decided to buy a brand new TV for my bedroom instead of hunting for bargains. My other TV is a LG C7 OLED in 65. Well, the sony looks great as you can see in the store. The remote is nice and solid. Many problems with samsung remotes on the web. I believe the motion handling is a bit smoother on my OLED. What I'd like to comment on is the TVs on the market generally have poor quality hardware, including the WIFI and bluetooth, PSUs and boards. I don't suspect any of them will last like the old TVs, with a nod to planned obsolescence. I suspect the quality of the electronics are better in the SONY. This is based partially on personal experience with multiple TVs as well as a voracious review of all online complaints and troubleshooting across brands. The x950G also has the most robust processor, and given that we are overtaxing these beasts already with video processing and smart TVing I think it's a warranted upgrade, though apparently the x900Fs picture is quite similar in general. Ive gamed with xbox 1x in 4k at 60z and don't see problems with tearing/stutters, though admit the samsung gaming tech (free sync) almost made me go that route. If you don't mind the burn-in risk with an OLED and have the cash i'd say upgrade to one of those, but if you want to leave the TV on a fair bit, have kids that will do stupid things at times, want to game forever and generally not worry about burn-in then this TV is likely your best bet.

I just upgraded to my first 4K from an LG to this Sony and have been nothing but impressed. The 4K is awesome and 4K HDR is stunning, I integrated it with a Denon AVR-X3500H and the eARC/ARC works awesome, great picture and surround sound processing now, directly from TV source to receiver, I am glad I chose this over the OLED Samsung C8 C9 series. This TV packs a punch and works great with the Andriod System. Remote is Bluetooth and has IR Blaster integrated in the remote for cable box control.

    A++ Color/depth-blooming annoying

The color and depth of picture is instantly noticeable and stunning. Watching every movie again for the first time. Blooming is pretty annoying for me but my wife doesn't notice it. Still playing with settings to reduce. Almost there... USB play when working 100% is far superior to the Samsung this tv replaced. Picture is great, defaults to English!!!! and audio passthrough blows Samsung away. At times it glitches out and sometimes freezes. Only included app that really works is Netflix. Excited for Google play library but currently all the other apps currently have issues streaming clearly. Tons of picture options, can't wait to dive in and tweak everything. Using Google Assistant more than I thought, pretty cool feature especially when connected with other devices in living room. Bravia sync can almost replace Harmony hub if lg Blu Ray player would connect. Very happy with purchase even though blooming issues. Confident they can be minimized with further adjustments.

I have been shopping for new TV for months. Always been a Sony guy. When I saw this available I had to go see it at Best Buy. They had it next to the 900 series and I could could not believe the difference in pictures. SOLD! Installed 5 days later and the room is alive with awesome color. My only regret is the space above my fireplace isn't large enough for the 75"! One week in, I am still playing and getting to know her. Fine purchase! This is my 6th Sony TV going back to the trinatron model.

My expectations were at a medium - high level with this tv and I must say the demos at the store are excellent... it's a different story at home even hooked up to a 4k Apple Tv...colors are nice but there is a pretty noticeable image noise that I haven't been able to get rid of... The other thing I read when doing my research was about the viewing angles.. I thought no big deal I am not watching this tv from the side however ... now I understand.. I mean you have to be exactly infront of the tv set to enjoy the best color.. if you have a long couch and someone is sitting on either sides of the couch.. the colors are pretty darn washed out... not good..the only thing is the price but hey I would never pay more than its sale price at the moment.. thinking about returning it..

Just returned a Samsung Q60R because of horrible flash-lighting effects all over the place in dark scenes (see my review on that TV with attached photo) and vertical banding and bought the Sony X950G 65". Holy cow what a difference in picture, sound and quality! As a former Sony customer I question my sanity for going with Samsung to begin with but now that I've come to my senses and exchanged it for this X950G, I'm VERY happy. Motion is so much smoother, no noise or judder in picture quality and the colors are far more natural. Set on vivid the picture just pops. TV has tons of options for settings and apps which I'm happy with. TV sounds good on its own but paired with the Sony sound-bar brings it to life. I'm using AudioQuest Ocean 4K hdmi cables and Comcast's 4K Xg1V4 dvr box. If you're with Comcast and you own a 4k TV you need to call and have them switch out your box for a 4k compatible dvr. Otherwise you're not getting past 1080p.

Great Picture Quality - But Dead After 5 Years.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We've used this as our primary TV for a little over 5 years, now, and for the most part, the picture quality has remained great. The audio is relatively terrible, but that's what AVRs are for. The remote is fine, with a few useless buttons for apps that you may or may not subscribe to (it's crazy that they aren't programmable). It's a little clunky to get advanced video features to work with modern game systems, but they do work okay. However, throughout most of its lifespan, it has had trouble running most common apps. I can't speak to everything, but we mostly used Hulu, Disney+, Max, Paramount+, Netflix, AppleTV, Peacock, Prime Video, and YouTube. They'd frequently be laggy - where there'd be stuttering - and eventually they'd simply freeze, requiring a reboot if possible, but most likely requiring us to physically unplug the TV (since the power button became unresponsive) and let it reboot. For years, this was annoying, but it was fine, until last week, when it finally got caught in a reboot loop - showing the android boot page for a few seconds before turning the screen black and flashing the status LED 4 times, then rebooting, and so on. We still have a functional Sony SXRD projection TV from 2005, a functional Panasonic Plasma TV from 2007, and of course our older CRTs from 1999 and 2002 (gotta have a way to play legacy light gun games!) that work fine. It's a little absurd that this TV died after 5 measly years. It might be reparable - the quote is $350 if the issue is the mainboard. However, if the panel itself has failed, then it's basically scrap. Since we do get a brief image during the boot sequence, I'm hoping it's the mainboard, but it's still a bit absurd for one of Sony's higher end TVs to fail so quickly with a 50/50 chance of being reparable.

    Better than the X900F

Had a chance to check out the new Sony X950G 65” tv today at Bestbuy. Due to the lack of space at the time, along with their rush to have it displayed, they had to put it where they could, which was the top row of what was two rows of 55” and 65” inch tv’s. Two tv’s over is the 65” X900F showing the same content to help in the comparison, along with a Samsung Q8 and Q9, 2018 models. Florescent lighting was directly above. First impressions are impressive given the setup. It easily bested the X900f in clarity and detail as well as in color depth and accuracy. It was really a stunning picture. And again, this is looking up at this thing in a not so friendly environment. While I’m not a Samsung fan, I must admit the 2018 Q8 and Q9 models look really good, but among other things, I didn’t think they were worth the extra cost over the X900F. Well, they really aren’t now when comparing them to the Sony X950G. The X950G I thought would fit between the Q8 and Q9 tv’s very comfortably, but with the Sony not being as saturated. I can see this TV taking sales away from Sony’s premiere Lcd TV quite honestly. Off Axis viewing was kind of hard to determine due to the setup but it did not look to be bad at all, but I need to see it in a better setup. So overall, I’m impressed and will most likely make this my next TV. It is very good! Hope to see other reviews soon.

After researching and shopping around this model made the most sense for our watching style. The picture on this TV is beautiful and the black levels are very near Oled but with true to life colors. I am very pleased with this TV purchase.

If you are a Google/Android user--this TV is terrific. Well integrated with Google Play and is hassle free to set up. Apps for Disney Plus and others are easy to setup. Picture quality is great. A couple of minor points--you will probably need to buy a sound bar--the audio quality for these types of tv's is not great. Also--remote control is not backlit. Finally--if you have children--make sure you secure TV so it doesn't accidentally tumble over and hurt a child. (kids will be kids). I would buy this TV again. No regrets.

Great Picture, Not Fully Tested Software

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Let me start off by saying that this TV has an amazing picture. I was a little apprehensive about going with a standard LED just because the technology is a bit older and I know Samsung's QLEDs have really upped what is expected from a TV when it comes to picture quality. I tend to also be a Samsung fan but decided this was great value. I bought two of them to go side-by-side in the media room (mainly for football season). Even with lights on or if natural light comes in the picture is clear and has great viewing angles. On that last part, the way the colors are seen by the eye do seem to change a bit depending on viewing angle but this isn't a deal breaker. Here is where my hiccup is...the built in Chromecast is terrible. The TVs regularly fall off of the Google Home network. It seems that if the "Ok Google" recognition option is turned on for the TVs then they do a better job but seem inconsistent. Even when connected and I can tell my Home Mini to open up Youtube, for example, Netflix seems to have an issue and I can't get the TVs to turn on and off through voice commands. I have removed and re-added them to the network countless times, I have restarted them, factory reset them, restarted and factory reset the Home Mini, and nothing seems to consistently get them to work. None of my other devices on the Google Home network are having any issues. I have been on the phone with Sony and Google for hours but all I get, after an hour or so of troubleshooting is "oh ya this is a known issue, we will work it and get back to you". Sorry, but this seems like a cop out. I really want these to work as intended and hope it is just an issue with new TVs with new technology but it is embarrassing how to major companies can allow such bad software out of the gate. I still have a few days until my return period is over so I am considering taking them back for the Samsungs or maybe Vizio as the built in Chromecast was a big part of my decision to buy these. If this doesn't work then I may just go with brands I know.

Upgraded from an older XBR 65" 4K 2015 model. I must say this TV is amazing right out of the box. Very low input lag for gaming which I why I chose this model! I had to turn off the "auto dimming" because it looked very dark, but once I did that the picture quality dramatically improved. My only complaint is that the TV speakers are terrible. I have a sony 7.1.2 soundbar so it doesn't bother me, but don't expect anything great if you plan on using the speakers. Pros: Non-laggy Gaming & Excellent Picture Quality with deep blacks. Instant response time for menus.

I got mine on Christmas eve for a huge savings. This is the tv I have been waiting for. I am not a tech person so I look for the basics. It has plenty of usb and hdmi ports for my needs. The picture is fantastic. I had to stick with Sony because my last Sony tv just wouldn't die. It had a big light bulb in the side it was so old. I begged the wife to let me get one of these big beautiful tv's. I am totally pleased!

Wow. Such a nice tv. Just got this and everything looks amazing. Faster processor than last year, so if you want to save a few bucks, get the 2018 version now on sale. Otherwise, spend a few more and get smoother movement for sports and faster controls on the dashboard.
