Settings allow it to be adjusted to the room it is in. [That is pretty cool.] In addition to the forward facing speakers, they are upward facing speakers that provide 1.5. [Or is it 1.7?] Just sounds, incredibly meh. My own opinion, the sub cross-over carries too much frequency spectrum. Much of the mid range frequencies prevent true subwoofer experience. I’ve heard smaller subwoofers give better low end tones. That ubiquitous incredibly low tone that is used in movies and TV shows to provide drama Just does not cut it. The high-end sounds tinny. There are several sound settings that adjust equalization, Like we’re stupid and we don’t know how to adjust a graphic/or onboard equalizer - Which it absolutely should have. It’s like I am hamstrung, I can’t get the sound that I want, just the different settings for sound for which I have to settle. I don’t know why this product has surfaced as one of the best in class. From my own experience it is not. It is passable for TV. For pure music, and if you’re an audiophile, it is not. As an audiophile, I do regret this purchase. It’s not bad, it’s just not real good, let alone being great.

First 4-6 days were great then the sub woofer headed south and started crackling and sounded terrible. A friend had politely suggested Sonos but we thought the Sony was good. The good part of the story is Best Buy return policy allowed us to get a Sonos playbar and subwoofer which is way way better sound than the Sony.

It has all the volume you need even in a large room. There is a vast improvement over the former HTST9 which I also own. I would recommend this.

Great Bar, But No Rear Channels

You may want to take advantage of the BRAVIA Sync or Control for HDMI function (if the TV also supports these functions) for a better user experience. Please refer to pages 52-54 of this link:

We value your input and appreciate the feedback. The HT-ST5000 soundbar is not designed to support rear speakers. On heat buildup: Although the system heats up during operation, this is not a malfunction. If you continuously use this system at high volume, the system temperature at the rear and bottom rises considerably. To avoid burning yourself, do not touch the system.
