Shortly after purchasing, the speakers began to crackle, then from time to time a loud beep would happen and you could not hear any audio. Sent it out to service one time which took 2 months to get it back. All they did was reflash the software. Worked for a couple days and the same issue came back. Do not recommend for such an expensive soundbar.

This is not the experience that we want you to have. This isn't normally the case with the HTST5000 soundbar. Make sure that the software version of the unit is updated for optimum performance. To update the soundbar, please refer to this link:

Resetting the soundbar may also help resolve the issue:
-Press HOME.
-Select [Setup] from the home menu.
-[Resetting]
-[Reset to Factory Default Settings]

I have a very open floor plan so I don’t think the surround feature works at all or very poorly. One good thing is that it is very loud and high quality sounding. The bass is a little bit underwhelming again considering price. I kind of wish I paid more and got the Sonos instead.

If it ever worked it would be ok

When it worked the sound was phenomenal from a sound bar. But within 15 minutes of turning on the issues started. The sub began sounding like it was blown even at low volume. I called tech support, no help. I checked forums, turns out its a common issue. So I returned the unit and swapped, get home try again, exactly the same issue. If you read all forums the sub connection audio performance issue happens to what seems like 9/10 people.

We regret to hear that you had to return the unit because of a subwoofer issue. It sounds like there may be some interference issues going on. Please try to move any modems or routers away from the soundbar and Subwoofer. This isn't normally the case with this model. Sony takes all feedback seriously.
