Easy setup and impressive sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is quite an impressive soundbar and subwoofer combination, and it should be since it appears to be Sony's top-of-the-line soundbar. It's probably overkill for our TV setup in the bedroom, but it does sound fantastic. It's also very nice for streaming music via our Echo Dot, although Alexa sounds like the voice of God when projected through these high-power speakers. It was super easy to set up and get connected to my TV (once I cleared off enough desk space for it underneath). My TV is old enough that it doesn't support HDMI ARC, or passing audio back down to the soundbar via the HDMI cable. It does have the digital optical output, though, so I've ordered a $6 cable and should be able to listen to over-the-air TV with sound through the bar when that comes. The whole system weighs about 60 lbs and a good portion of that is the subwoofer. When I unboxed it, my first thought was it was a late 1980s PC--about the same size and weight. Since it's a wireless connection to the soundbar, though, it was extremely easy to tuck into an out-of-the-way space (but near a power outlet) and get it working. Literally, I only had to plug it in, power it on, and it was working with the soundbar. You can stream music via bluetooth to it easily by default, but I like the feature that you can change bluetooth modes and have the output sent to headphones if others don't want to listen to your program. It was a little bit of trouble to go into settings to change the mode, but once done it worked perfectly. You just have to remember to change it back when you're done so you can stream later. I'm not an audiophile, but to me the sound quality is superb. I did have to adjust the voice mode up to its highest (#2) setting before voice on TV and movies sounded the clearest. (I noticed in the Sony manual it says this setting "may be easy to hear for the elderly" which I didn't appreciate, Sony.) I also like the fact you can adjust the subwoofer volume separately. Some movies tend to go a little overboard on the bass sounds, so it's nice to be able to tone it down a little. The built-in Chromecast function is also a nice feature. Overall, I'm happy with the system and I can't wait to try it out during football season.

Not enough bang for the buck
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.As the title suggests, I was really unimpressed with the power delivered from the Sony HT-ST5000. After trying to like it, I knew it was time to return it when I was watching a movie and hadn’t noticed (until much later) that the system had auto-shut off, and only my TV speakers were playing. Also, it may be my room, but I never heard the Dolby Atmos working. I would suggest saving your money and getting something else, whether a wired system (what I did), or a cheaper soundbar.

MIXED EMOTIONS

Soundbar by Sony

Needs constant reset

After talking to Sony the explanation on multiple occasions was to hard reset which requires a complete setup after doing so. If you like setting up your soundbar more than listening to it than this is great. Waste of money. (4th time contacting Sony in about a month of ownership)

Sound Bar

The worst sound bar from Sony

So when they came out with what supposed to be the next best thing for watching/listening to movie, we were all over it. After a couple of weeks or so we started to experience a crackling sound in the subwoofer. We tried our best at trouble shooting which helped for a bit but than it would start again. We brought the speaker into Best Buy they allowed us to trade it in for the exact speaker (thinking it was just that speaker). Getting that speaker home we had the samre issue. Went and asked Sony themselves and sent our speaker away for about a month and a half had them "fix" the problem and get it back with the same issue. We googled the sound bar and found that other people were having the same issue. At this point we are just trying to turn it into Best Buy to have them "Fix" the unfixable issue and hopefully we can just trade it in for something other than Sony. As far as we are concerned we are finished with Sony. Just completely disappointed with Sony and their inability to recognize that the product they put out has flaws and that they need to fix them. Loyal customer is now gone!!!

Sony fails again

If you want big sound then it’s ok. I opted to go with this instead of my surround sound setup as I moved and my options were limited on wiring the old 1981 Omega speakers I’ve had. New I should not have gone with Sony equipment they fail in sound. HDMI PORTS ARE POURLY PLACED.

Too much for too little..

For the price, this Soundbar should at least have the option of expanding rear satellite speakers, but really they should be included. The system is weak at best and even connected to my Sony OLED doesn't perform good enough to cost what it does.. Pretty disappointed with Sony audio for this product.

Disappointed

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.When I look at reviews I only search for “poor” reviews since I feel they are the most honest because what company will pay someone to leave a bad review. This should have been the case when I purchased this sound system. I was skeptical at first however, when I pulled the trigger I was excited. I was setting up the system which looked impressive and everything seemed to function the way it should. When I kicked on the sound while watching YouTube videos I was very disappointed because of how cheap the sound quality was from the bar. The bass sounded great but I had to turn the bar almost to max volume to hear everything in the video. So basically I was constantly turning the volume up and down. My $130 Samsung 5.1 home theater system sounded way better than this crap and had a smart volume so you didn’t have to constantly hold onto a controller. Save your money people. Even a Best Buy employee told me these things are crap. Needless to say I returned it after having it one day.

We're so sorry if the sound quality of our ST5000 Soundbar with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatibility did not meet your expectations. This soundbar actually feature speaker customization where you can adjust the gain in the setup menu according to your preference. In the home menu go to setup>Speaker Settings>Level and you can set the level for your front speakers, Height speakers and subwoofer. You may also want to set the distance to ensure the best quality.
