    Best Sounds I've Ever Heard

My set up: I am currently using this with a 48" 4k tv in a smaller size living room. I don't have cable or a 4k Blu Ray player. I watch all my tv over streaming services like Netflix. Overall: Amazing sound. The sound is loud and crisp, and the wireless bass packs a huge punch. I've never had anything that sounds as good as this sound bar. Even on streaming sites you get the surround sound effect and it is great. I don't think any of the shows I watched streaming actually support Dolby Atmos. So if that is what you are really looking for, be sure to check that the streaming service supports Atmos. The built-in Chromecast is also a great feature. I've used it many times to cast music from any app that supports Chromecast audio. Music sounds great. The only downside I. An think of is just how big this sound bar is. It is pretty deep and where we have our tv sitting above the fire place we had to mount the TV because the sound bar wouldn't fit. If you're looking for a premium sound bar this is definitely the one to get.

Installation was easy. If you have a Sony TV, just turn the IR Repeater option "ON" in the soundbar options and there's no remote codes needed. Works fantastic with Directv. Sound is amazing and the base is great. Sounds just like your in a movie theater when the volume is turned up. Great sound bar. A++

Ordered this item very early and received it with a couple boot prints on the box. This box was huge and weighed over 60 lbs. Setup was easy and they included a good HDMI cable with it. The settings are straight forward and useful. While not flashy with the UI it does it's job. Sound is great and the Atmos really does a great job of surround without need of satellite speakers. Sub is AMAZING, great job and making your room shake. Yes this system is expensive and probably could be 200-500$ less but it does provide 800W of power and it is better then the LG and Samsung Atmos sound bars IMO. I would give it a 4.5 but I don't see giving it 4 stars because I believe it is a great product.

Great sound - doesn't work with Google Home howeve

Bought this 3 days ago. Setup was straight-forward. Connected through HDMI-ARC to TV. Wanted to use Pandora through chromecast to replace my previous blue-tooth to the previous soundbar. Turns out Pandora won't chromecast to this soundbar (not sure if it casts to anything else). It sound great through blue-tooth though. Google-play music worked fine through chromecast and sounds fantastic. Another of my primary purposes in buying this soundbar was to be able to utilize Google Home to use voice control. Although the salesmen at Best Buy guaranteed this would work, it clearly does not. I spent parts of three days talking to Google and Sony support, and continue to get an error when trying to link the soundbar to Google Home. The device shows up in Google Home but won't link despite multiple factory resets, reboots, etc. Google finally decided tonight that there is some issue with compatibility between the sony built-in chromecast and the Google Home...they are working to address. If this worked, I would give the soundbar five stars. The sound is fantastic in my opinion. Also the dialog enhancing feature is much better than I've had in previous soundbars. Makes a huge difference in dialog clarity.

Very good soundboard and excellent sound quality, but unfortunately as of now Dec,2020 there is no option to add the rear speakers, Also, does an hdmi cable makes a different if I upgrade the original one with an expensive hdmi/audio quest??

      Hi Gio1,

We're glad that you like the sound quality of the soundbar. The HTST5000 was designed to deliver an immersive, cinematic audio experience at home with three-dimensional surround sound. And, the 7.1.2 speaker channels completely envelop you in sound, even from above. 800W of power and 2 levels of vocal enhancement will ensure you don’t miss a moment of your content.

It is recommended to use a High Speed HDMI cable for optimum performance. Your feedback about support for additional speakers is greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing your review and for choosing Sony.

    The LEADER in ATOMS Soundbars

I have listen to plenty of soundbars, both standard and ATMOS. This one is hands down the best sounding, and most accurate to sound you can get without building an entire set up off of a receiver. You wont be disappointed with Room filling sound, earth rumbling base, and a clarity that will make you hear every detail. My only flaw in this review is that there is no handle on the box! Silly isn't that?

Defentaly worth the wait! Been waiting for this product ever since it was accounce on CES. The system is high quality from the sound to the actual soundbar. You defentaly can hear the Subwoofer roar when you pick the 3D Surround option. I test it on Batman vs Superman and the voices are crystal clear!!! Sony out did themselves this year!

$1500 is a lot of money. For that type of change for a sound bar you expect to be pleasantville’d into every movie. This one is great, sound is incredibly crisp but it’s not as immersive as you’d expect for Dolby Atmos(here’s a test: watch Deathly Hallows pt. 2, if the scene in the great hall where Voldemort is whispering to everyone in Hogwarts doesn’t make the hairs on your neck stand up, it’s not true Atmos). There’s a simple fix for this: send everyone rear speakers! Until y’all do that this will only be a “meh” purchase. Worth the 1100(open box and on sale) I paid for it, not the 1500.

Best sound bar I've ever owned!!!

This sound bar is amazing and let's be honest... For that price it'd better be. At first I was shocked at how big it was. The built is premium and the sub is pretty heavy. I have the 55xbr900e and as tall as it is it doesn't block any of my screen. It has eARC so connecting is easy. Just make sure you go and set it up correctly. The grill does come off (that's how I personally like it cuz it shows the speakers). It supports Dolby Atmos, Hi res audio, and 4k HDR. If you're looking for the NFC chip it's on the right side for easy Bluetooth connection. I truly believe it's going to be a while before I replace this incredible piece of tech.

I bought this at best buy 14 days ago. The sound was really good...especially once I realized how to configure the sound. The downside is that one day it just stopped producing sound. Fortunately I was within my return policy window at BestBuy, and then took it back. While I thought about getting another soundbar (the 2018 Sony, for example) I ultimately went back to this one to try it again. Its got great sound, and feature rich. I just hope this one doesn't die on me, too.

This is THE soundbar that you want if you are going to buy one. Why? I believe in watching movies (and television) with great sound. I have Sony XBR65X900E paired with this and they complement each other well. No, it does not replace a traditional 7.1/2 set up. However, I am not disappointed at all. Avengers: Infinity War is an entirely new experience with this soundbar. If you have the proper setup, I can almost guarantee that you will NOT be disappointed with this purchase. And yes, Sony supports this product by providing updates as well. Other great movies to test out on this, Mission Impossible, Incredibles 2, and The Last Jedi.

Picked this unit up about 3 weeks ago and it does what its supposed to well enough. The Atmos effects aren't very noticable as I'd have hoped even with the the distance settings input correctly, but the clarity of the sound and bass the subwoofer produces makes up for it.

I was really excited for this bar and replacing my mid-range surround sound system to clean up the cables behind my TV. I have a five year old Sony 7.1 receiver and Polk RM-6750 speakers. I've had my eye on this since it was debuted at CES and picked one up yesterday. Immediately upon connecting it and testing content, I noticed that the sound, particularly dialogue, was not very good. Specifically, 30% of dialogue was too "bright" lacking proper mid-low frequencies. I'd say that most content was a bit too high but the worst part that I couldn't ignore was in speech. This created two problems pertaining to dialogue. 1st - Most dialogue sounded a bit unnatural and too high. 2nd - Whenever people spoke on the softer side or in a lower tone voice, it was hard to hear. I found myself raising and lowering volume and subwoofer volume every five minutes on 2/3 of the content that I tried just to hear what people were saying. I tried using the Voice amplification feature but that just made it even more unnatural sounding and was hard on the ears. In general, the sound also swayed a lot from too low to too loud between calm and action scenes. Again, I tried the Night feature and that did not help much. With my surround setup, I do find myself having to change volume a couple times during a movie but with this bar, it was frequently. Switching between sound fields (Movie > 3D Surround > Clear and Standard) changed little. Notes: Early on, I realized that the subwoofer has the passive radiator to help with the sound bar's lack of mid/lows so I moved it from 7 ft. away in the corner to directly adjacent the TV which improved conditions but still left me with all that I wrote above. Because of this, I toyed with the subwoofer volume a lot too in order to find a balance that sounded consistently good, but again, I had to constantly change main volume and subwoofer levels based on the content playing and this did little to help voices sound clear and natural. They were too high and past a certain level on the subwoofer it added too much bass. The sound from the bar and passive radiator couldn't really fuse together - they sounded separate in times when they needed to be one. I also adjusted the sound output on my devices between LPCM and Dolby Bitstream as well as testing sound playing from PS4 apps, TV apps (Sony x900e) and a Verizon FIOS cable box. I think that the size of the speakers contribute to a lot of the problems. The drivers are quite small so they can't properly push out mids/lows. Also, a lot of dialogue played only through the very center speaker. Primary dialogue content playing just through one tiny driver... It should push center driver content through the center three speakers on this bar to make it more full. The five up front are all a foot apart anyways so it's not like it's going to hurt any sort of "surround effect." My center speaker houses two drivers that are probably a tad over 1.5x the diameter of the bars so it pushes out much clearer dialogue. It'd be great if they had a better mix of sound fields for movies that actually sounded different or better sound options. Before returning it - I connected my old ~$600 surround system back up and for three hours played the same scenes from various movies and TV shows on it and this sound bar. The bar never sounded noticeably better, usually fell slightly behind but could match up with the surround when playing TV show intro themes and some TV shows. Surround effects aside as I was prepared to lose those for convenience, the consistently poor dialogue was the killer and could not be ignored There were some positives. The subwoofer is pretty beastly. It could add some fantastic, vibrant bass to action and really get the room rocking. The fact that it's wireless is pointless though. You need to have it adjacent to the TV to work along with the bar. It could sort of fill my room with sound and some content did sound a bit immersive but yeah, you aren't going to hear the rain drizzling or crickets chirping behind you in movies. A decent amount of content sounded good but it of course lacked the dynamics of a surround system. I didn't listen to music but the songs that played in movies/shows including the opening themes to shows like Orange is the New Black and Game of Thrones sounded really good. I haven't had another sound bar but yeah, this isn't worth $1,500. You'd be much better off buying a receiver and separate speakers and putting them all on your TV stand with the "back" speakers angled to the sides of your room. Then if something ever blows, you're just stuck replacing a $300-500 receiver or a $100 speaker. I think my entry-level $300 Sony surround system that I passed onto my sister many years back may sound better. O_o TL:DR The sound bar lacks proper mids/lows to consistently produce natural dialogue and makes all content a tad high and 30% of dialogue very hard to hear. The passive radiator on subwoofer does not bridge the gap. Sound is unbalanced requiring constant adjusting of main and subwoofer volumes. Sound options were lacking. Sound fields all sounded the same and enhancement modes (Night, Voice and Clear) helped little or made things sound more unnatural. The sound bar and subwoofer look really slick - subwoofer puts out great bass, sound bar plays music really well. Not worth $1,500!! Buy an AV receiver for <$500 and a set of surround speakers for <$300 and it will not only sound much better but be cheaper to purchase And replace components of if something ever blows in 5 years. If you do not have the space for surround rears, place all speakers on your TV stand and it will still sound vastly better.

I researched different sound bars for a couple of weeks / months was on the fence about this one as the reviews on YouTube were great but the price was holding me back. Not wanting to put many speakers throughout my livingroom for surround I've tried many soundbars including Samsung's atmos bar. Wasn't impressed with the Samsung so luckily Sony released their own. And wow what great detail and powerful bass.
