This is my second Sony A/V receiver in about 8 years. I replaced my original unit with this one because I upgraded to a Sony 4k display. The old unit works fine otherwise. The setup and configuration is vastly improved over my first unit with a decent graphical interface to walk you through the setup.. The sound is great and easily configured for your equipment and environment. Though I am not an audiophile any more, the sound is great in a very affordable package. If you are looking for a near seamless integration with a Sony flatscreen TV this is your solution. Inputs work great and the Sony Sync function works very well. I have not used the Sony app on my iOS devices yet so I have no opinion on how that works. I can effortlessly stream music from my iOS devices to the receiver however without requiring the use of Apple TV.

After doing a lot of research, I decided to settle on this unit for my home theater system. The main deciding factors were the number of HDMI inputs, 4K resolution, HDR capability, the ability to work with my speakers ohm values and ease of programming. What keeps this unit from getting 5 stars is its bizarre inability to display my PS3. Yes, one Sony device will not work with the other. It's bizarre. It's the unit and not the PS3 nor cable or any other reason, and I'm not alone with this issue. Online feedback would also suggest this can affect PS4 users as well. The issue seems specific to owners of LG televisions using this Sony receiver. Beyond that, the unit is great and my speakers have honestly never sounded better.

This is my first time purchasing a receiver and I chose to go with Sony because 1 I like how clean and solid Sony makes their products and 2 I was looking for somewhat top of the line that I could build on and have last for several years. The reviews I have read are mixed from people having issues with the hdmi pass to having no problems at all.
My long winded explanation to my one and only problem.
I currently have not had any real problems, with that being said by real problems nothing seems broken just more of a software issue or something I think. Sometimes I'll adjust the input setting to Video 1 because currently that is the only one I use which I have my ps4 connected to the problem I have encountered is it doesn't seem to register the connection and the screen stays blank for now my workaround for that is just turn off the receiver and turn it back on. Like I said hopefully that is just a software problem that can be fixed with an update but if not oh well so long as it works and isn't broken I'm not worried.
Love the sound quality I get I play music so far I only have 2 speakers I purchased the book shelf speakers because they came as a pair and was much more affordable than the other sony speakers I was looking at. It puts out some serious power I haven't turned it up all the way because it would just be to loud. Funny thing my 1 year old daughter got a hold of the remote and cranked the volume up on accident when netflix or something was on anyways it scared her a lot and she didn't even get it all the way up.
I chose this receiver for the brand being Sony because of the quality of products they produce (also side note I am not a Sony fan boy, I have an XBox One, Windows desktop computer not sony branded, Element tv, macbook pro, ya da ya da ya da..). This receiver should last me several years hopefully 10+ years, can be added on to and is advanced enough that it'll be set when I upgrade my tv to 4k and get a more ideal family room to make a nice little home theater set-up.
All in all 4/5 is what I give this being that I have only 1 issue and I almost never give 5 stars because in life there is always room for improvement.

Bought a new 4K HDR Sony TV and a new (near) 4K up scaling Sony Blueray player,( waiting for a reasonably priced Native 4K Blueray player ) Needed a 4K pass through A/V Receiver, and I waited to grab this just on the market Sony STR-DN1070. All of the HDMI inputs are the current HDMI version with HDCP v 2.2, and the 7:2 (165w X 7) receiver has most of the newest features including wi-fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, Spotify compatible, and good integration with my 192/24 bit High Res music files. I found this unit to be a pretty well rounded top of Sony's consumer line AVR, Sounds very good with my existing 5:1 in-wall system and a 12" Sony Sub - has plenty of power and no distortion noted. Everything I needed works, there are lots of features I haven't tried yet, and it operates pretty seamlessly with the new Sony tv and Blueray unit.. This unit replaced an excellent 2007 Sony ES class A/V receiver that I simply moved to use in another room. I also own two older (pre-HDMI) 2001 & 2005 Sony AVR's that are still doing their job well with older tv's/gear in the house, so I think you can expect Sony A/V receivers to be very high quality and should last a long time.
Negative observations: 1) I can't use my powered FM antenna with this because Sony engineers used a proprietary Sony antenna plug instead of coax, so I'm stuck using the included low quality wire antenna. Dumb, but a small thing.
2) Wish Sony would get with it and provide remotes with backlit buttons!
I also suggest it needs a better center "select" button... more raised and identifiable when using it by touch in a dimly lit room.

This receiver set up quickly as the instructions were pretty good. The sound calibration was quick, easy and spot-on. Some folks mentioned an improved picture - I haven't noticed a change - it was quite goo before. It helped me create a true home theater experience with every show watched. Coordinates well with the TV speakers (with my previous home theater receiver I had to turn the TV speakers all the way down because they echoed with the sound system. Happy with my purchase.

I really enjoyed this new receiver. I had an Onkyo receiver before this one which I did like. But I wanted to go to something more powerful well as something that could handle 4K and had more HDMI inputs. It turns out but this is not only more powerful but a lot more easier to program and user-friendly. I recently bought a Sony Bravia TV 4K. And it links with it amazingly.

After reading reviews for many home theater receivers I chose this Sony because of the unique feature set, specifically the ability to power 3 zones. While this was not as seamless as I suspected, and required the additional purchase of a speaker switch, there is no other receiver at this price point that can power 3 separate audio zones. The sound is excellent, setup was relatively easy, and the interface much better than previous receivers I have had.

I bought the Sony1070 as an upgrade for my 1030. Setup was a breeze compared to the 1030. Much more attractive Home screen GUI to make and change settings. Great movie and music surround sound.
Would have been nice to have had a manual without having to buy one, go online, or print over 200 pgs because you do reference it often.
I knew this receiver reduced the # of optical inputs from 2 to 1 so I did purchase an optical input splitter with remote from Amazon.
After setup, going through all the features, and reading the manual, unless I'm wrong, I realized there was something Sony also did away with... the AFD setting. When listening to music in 2 channel, which is how I like to listen to music that isn't 5.1, the AFD setting sends a signal to the subwoofer. This might be fine if I had speakers with 10-12" woofers and a subwoofer wasn't necessary. Without it music in 2 channel in a decent sized room obviously sounded tinny coming through Klipsch references bookshelf speakers. If this isn't an issue for you I would recommend the 1070. It was a game changer for me, so I returned the 1070 and purchased the 1060, which had two optical inputs and the AFD setting. It sounds just as good and has all the positive aspects of the 1070. I purchased it from a different online retailer because Best Buy only had a refurbished model. Surprisingly the 1060 was the same price as the 1070 which was price dropped by Sony and then again by all retailers.
More importantly, I can't say enough about Best Buy's return policy. No questions asked. Price match guarantee also a huge plus. I would give them 5 out of 5 stars.

I am a Tech Guru. I read all reviews to see what folks like or dislike on an item. This unit works good but it doesn't come with information that is required to set up the unit to make it fit to what you are adding to it. I have a PC,ps3, ps4, and Comcast cable. At first when I turned on the receiver it would turn on both my ps3 and ps4 as well as my tv. Not cool if I just want to watch Netflix on my Smart TV. Also it will wear out my consoles if I don't fix this problem. If it wasn't for Consumer support online with youtube I would have gone mad. Companies make electronics better and smarter but are not giving the end users the right info needed to set it up to their own situation. You will be upset on the amount of time it takes in setting any new receiver in todays market. I went into my gaming consoles and told them not to be controlled via HDMI to fix past problem. There are also things in your Smart TV that you will need to change to have audio go to receiver during just TV watching. I first bought the Sony version of this Model but I spent 5 hours and still didn't have it figured out. It would turn on my consoles 30 minutes later after watching Netflix. Drove me crazy. This unit for the price is the best out there, just be prepared to do some research with what you are adding to it. Good Luck.

This is a great choice for a mid price range receiver. Packed with features and support for a ton of formats. There are plenty of HDMI inputs and two outputs. 4K support and pass-through (even when the unit is powered down). I use it with a Sony TV, which uses Bravia Sync, to control the receiver through the TV. Simple and easy to navigate controls and menus.

After research & reading reviews, decided on latest 4k receiver with Bluetooth. Glad I did, so easy to setup and easy pairing of Bluetooth for instant streaming of music from my iPod. I just need time to read about other functionality available to see if the overall price was worth it.

Got this so I could do my surround sound upstairs and run some speakers downstairs with another HDMI cord to my downstairs tv when the game is on. Haven't hooked up the speakers yet but the 2 tvs work great. Was worried after reading that this had higher distortion than my old denon but honestly sounds slightly better than my slightly older unit.

I bought this unit mainly for the zone functionality. This was the only received that had a zone A+B with video capability I found. The sound is awesome with my HK speakers. I added my old Panasonic sub and 2 Polk shelf speakers. The sound is great, I enjoy movies with a cinema feel. I get immensed in soccer games. It is worth every penny.

This is simply the best mid priced receiver you can buy. The improvements in sound quality over last year's model is substantial. With 6 HDMI ins and two outs, and the HDMI's being 2.0, you'll be fully prepared for years to come. You can pay a lot more, but you can also come out with less. Buy this now, you won't be sorry.

I bought this unit to replace an older Sony 3D receiver. Although my old one still worked, the sound would sporadically kick out for a second, usually associated with flipping a switch (light, fan, etc.) somewhere in the house. I tried using other electrical outlets, as well as a good quality surge suppressor. But the issue continued. So, I hoped that buying a new, more expensive receiver would do the trick.
This new receiver was more expensive than my old one, but admittedly, not the most expensive. It was easy to install, and the automatic calibration was handy. The sound is good, and the frequency of the sound interruptions has decreased. But unfortunately, they do still occur. I tried looking for answers on the Sony website, but could not find any mention of an issue similar to mine.
Bottom line: my situation is a bit better, but still not ideal.
