Had been using an entry level Yamaha receiver, which did the job and then some, but wanted to upgrade my sound system, and add more to my movie watching experience, and went with this Sony unit. It sounds awesome !!! Playing Spotify using the unit was equally impressive. Excellent quality for the money. Checked reviews before purchasing this unit. All listed it as #1, and they were spot on.

We were so pleased with this purchase after going through two previous stereo receivers w/ our surround sound system. We have 3 year old Sony smart TV and were just amazed that hooking up this Sony receiver was so easy! Everything worked quickly and without a lot of work or hassle. We would highly recommend this especially if you have a Sony TV!

This is a great TV. The picture is the best i have seen period. I have directv and it looks great. I also have antenna and also looks great.
Even black and white shows look 3D. The remote would be the only thing i would change. It is round on the bottom and hard to hold . Of coarse the price is high but you get whay you pay for as they say.

This receiver has most of the bells and whistles that you'd expect from a receiver at this price point, but fails spectacularly when it comes to performing basic home receiver tasks. The amplifier on my Pioneer vsx-1123 died on me Friday, so I went and bought this as a possible replacement. For two days, I've attempted to get this receiver to simply use 2 front speakers and a subwoofer. I quickly discovered how unuser-friendly this receiver is. It would output to the subwoofer when playing things such as spotify through the songpal app (aka Google Cast I think), but would not use the sub when using any of the HDMI inputs. When I was finally able to get it to use the sub (by changing a random speaker setting and changing it back) the sound came out great. But once I exited the settings menu, the output echoed terribly, as if there were two separate outputs playing at the same time, a couple milliseconds apart. But when I re-entered ANY settings menu, the echo went away, and returned upon exiting the menu. So essentially, I was never able to get solid, consistent sound from it.
The lack of a usable app from Sony to control the receiver was huge for me, coming from a Pioneer which has an amazing (and fun) app. It just seems lazy and archaic to not have a robust remote app in today's times. Especially for a company as large and established as Sony.
It's like trying to have a conversation with someone who's only half listening and you have to keep repeating yourself. And even after repeating it several times, they only really get the gist of what you're trying to say because they are still, of course, only half listening.
I decided that I was just going to have my old Pioneer looked, and possibly fixed. I thought about keeping the Sony in the interim, so that I'd have some form of a sound system, but it frustrates me so often that my wife is having me take it back. It's just not worth the headaches it causes.

Needed to upgrade my onkyo to get working HDMI ports again. This is a great value for the just above entry level crowd.

This is a great system. We have enjoyed a fantastic step up in our movie and music experience. Using the same speakers we had connected to our old amplifier our sound is just amazing. I will keep using Sony as my number one home theater equipment manufacturer. With the Bravia televisions you can't make a mistake.

Great Sound Quality, but...

This receiver has great sound quality (better than my current Denon AVR-1912) and it's easier to hear speech at lower sound levels than with my Denon, however... I bought this for the ChromeCast built-in feature, and it does NOT work... I tried everything imaginable including updates, etc. but I could not get it to play via ChromeCast, only AirPlay works wirelessly. I e-mailed Sony and also read numerous reports on Sony's homepage of users who could not get ChromCast to work on this unit (1070 model).
One other drawback is Sony receivers do not do "Multi-Channel" audio like the Denons do... even if you manually adjust the individual channel levels, the front speakers will always be louder than the rest, whereas the Denons will allow you to use Multi-Channel to send the same strength (and clarity of audio) to all speakers, something that's really helpful when you need to keep the volume at lower levels and you have a 5.1 or 7.1 arrangement and want to be able to ultilize the rear speakers in Multi-Channel mode.

Always like Sony ATV receivers, bought my first 12 years ago, it had basically the same features as now . It lasted 10 years. My second only lasted two years with the one-year guarantee. Now on my third ,many features ,a little hard to navigate the great sound effects I hope this one lasts longer

I bought to replace a fried Onkyo and have been pleasantly pleased with this top of the line unit- Did not have a chance to do the normal comparison shopping, but a quick look after the fact convinced me this was the right choice and several months of watching and listening sealed the deal!

The setup was easy. Once you hook up the speakers, plug in the HDMI cords, and turn on the unit, it automatically recognized the TV and external speakers. After that all you have to do is customize the sound to your liking. Also, once connected to the internet it updated to the latest software.
