My only complaint about this receiver is the fact that the default sound setting when it is first turned on is Sport. Why? And why doesn't it hang onto whatever it was set to when it turned off? But since there are sound shortcut buttons on the remote, it's not as annoying as it could be. Other than that we've had a great experience with this receiver. Easy to set up and great sound!

Our 5 year old receiver by another manufacturer went out so my wife researched new ones. Based on other reviews we chose this one. It was a breeze to set up and has a number of presets for sports, video gaming, movie viewing or listening to music that are intuitive and quite good! It works really well with our Logitech Harmony remote, and we are totally pleased with our choice!

This receive after you get to set it up is a great unit added to my Sony 4k TV...it took a little while to set up the correct speaker media for sound with all the settings but afterwards the surround sound is great... Music from my PC or phone is a plus with WI-FI or Bluetooth... Great sound .....I would recommend this to add great sound for your Smart TV..

I recently purchased this to replace my STR-DN1000. Although their was nothing wrong with it, there was not 3d pass through. My expectations were high, as the 1000 was a really good mid-tier receiver. There are some major upgrades with functionality, the GUI is completely redesigned and entirely more user friendly. Set up was a breeze, after the 20 minute software update. I have a w950b tv and a PS4, so the connectivity is great. I do have tweaking to do with the sound settings. It has been difficult to keep the sound in the right mode. Depending on what the output of the video is, he sound field needs to be adjusted to optimize the quality. I mainly notice it because there will be no bass response. I use a 5.2 setup with two f7000 towers, Sony center and two Polk psw110. On the 1000 I would get periods of too much bass, no it seems non existent most of the time. All in all though it is a great update over the 1000 and I would purchase it again.

I always get a little flustered when hooking up new video/audio equipment because it's not something I do very often. But this receiver hooked up quickly and without problems to my tv and other peripherals. Sound is very good in theater and stereo modes. I'm sure this unit will last a long time as new gear comes out in the future.

Bought this to replace an older Sony unit that lasted many years - this one was much easier to hook up and provides very good sound although I have to admit I'm not really fussy - use it mostly for watching movies - but the surround sounds great and there's plenty of power, looks good too. Would definitely recommend.

Ordered online and picked it up in an hour later in the store...was watching a movie with the family before the next hour was up! It was that easy to unpack and hook up the cables/wires. I did use the included auto-setup microphone but found the sound to be a little muddy with the Definitive Technology speakers it's running (Def Tech Pro Sub 1000, Def Tech 1000 Center Channel, and Def Tech 800 Surrounds all bought thru Best Buy). I adjusted the sound and paired with my iPad to enjoy our first of many evenings together watching and listening to the best receiver we've owned (Yamaha and Denon before). This unit packs a lot for the money and wouldn't hesitate to purchase it again.

Performs as advertised- top flight for non ES Sony

I've had Sony ES equipment for decades, including receivers, various disc players and more. On the receivers, I really like the multiple sound fields which allow listening of music sources in different ambience modes. Only Yamaha comes close in the listening options, but the Sony provides many more choices- and if you are sourcing from some MP3 player, you need to improve the basic sound. On line critiques always are a tough read. The biggest negative I was finding for the current Sony (and Yamaha) had to do with the lack of a hard copy owners manual- very valid complaint in my opinion. The online version is even a bit tricky to navigate if you are trying to research a topic. To perform a basic setup, you need to connect the receiver to your video screen. If you have never done this procedure in the past, it can be overwhelming, but if you have some experience, you can figure things out. That being said, the Sony receivers of 5+years ago could let one perform setups without having to hook up to the TV monitor. The paper version of the manual can be purchased- I tried to print from the online version, but there are so many "linked" pages, that I found it to be an exercise in futility. The other big negative was that there were limitations for the second zone use. This may be true, but for me the second zone consists of a pair of outdoor Bose speakers primarily for music listening poolside. I am not worried about sending video signals, thus cannot comment on any limitations for that use. This non ES Sony receiver has many features beyond the entry level ES models which cost at least twice as much. You do not get the 5 year warranty that comes with ES, but I have never had to send back any unit of any kind for repairs within the first 15 years of life. Bottom line- great product, great value, great performance!!!

The first receiver I bought 20 years ago was a Sony. Since then it has all been Denon. Compared both the current Denon and Sony and was once again am a Sony fan. This receiver makes streaming music so easy (somethingthe Denon failed to do). Fantastic UI. Great power and sound to boot.

I thought I would have to spend a fortune to get a high quality piece of equipment to match my 4K tv. The Sony is powerful and clean not to mention the ease of use. If you're entry level or need a receiver for your high end theater I would give this a thumbs up

Easy Setup, Great sound, Wireless.... In the past I have owned Denon, Marantz and Pioneer, but wasn't willing to make that kind of "investment" at this time - Couldn't be happier with the performance of this AVR...

Had a Denon avr e400 that I purchased from best buy along with geek squad. It was a great receiver while it worked. I got this reciever when I brought my Denon back into best buy and received a refund for it. Had thought about buying another Denon reciever similar to the old one, but a sales associate recommended that even tho the Sony had 20 watts less per channel that it had a better processer in it that would make up for the wattage difference. When I listened to this reciever at home I was amazed at how much better my 4 Klipsch bookshelf speakers 2 towers and one center sounded

Sounds great, Lots of inputs, Easy setup. I only have 2 minor problems with this product: 1) AM Radio reception with the supplied antenna is pretty bad 2) When I power off the receiver, my subwoofer (Samsung) hums. That did not happen with the Samsung receiver I replaced with this unit, but that may just be the subwoofer, and another subwoofer might not exhibit the same problem.

Purchased this receiver after trying the onkyo 636 and the denon 2100. I like the AirPlay feature for the fact that I have apple products and the link up works fine Enough power to drive my Polk audio speakers and sub Pretty easy to set up and there is an app you can download to your iPad or iPhone that allows you to control the receiver I can go on and on about all the pros, what I will say this is an excellent mid range receiver The only negative is that I find is that it does not have many options for Internet music

Great sound and power !! I had trouble getting the tuner to change stations and called Best Buy... She said she couldn't help me and referred me to sony's customer support..they also said they would have to put me on a call back list and should be calling me back within the hour.....Two days later he called when I was a work and left a voice mail to call him back...no answer...still no FM stations
