Once the local dimming modes are engaged, the blacks are deep, the colors are bright and accurate, and blooming is very minimal... you really have to go looking for flaws on this set. The built in Google TV platform and apps are snappy, Wifi connection is very strong, and pulls in broadcast TV just fine and the online guide is quick. If you have a bright room (we have 2 walls of windows and skylights in the main TV room) and a wide seating area, this is quite possibly the best option on the market right now. Included are a picture of the installation with some art off the web and two images taken at night with all lights off of one of the LG OLED demo YouTube videos. These stills show more blooming than your eyes really perceive while watching in a dark room.

Still has a bit of blooming but it’s super easy to change between picture modes, adjust picture setting for the best viewing setting all while not having a huge pop up menu covering your movie or show. The quick menu will be at the very bottom. The built in speakers are loud, it has a great wide viewing angle and a great anti reflexive coating. The coating does an amazing job with natural light I don’t close all the blinds in the living room or have to close them all the way. I can’t say the same about lamps or bulbs they still stand out and I have to turn them off. This tv is very fast when navigating between apps.

I bought 3 in total before I finally got one that worked. The first was delivered, (A few days before Super Bowl) got it unpacked and the screen was cracked (Under the main screen), I called and got BB to come pick it up, but delivery of a new one was going to be too late for the SB, so the morning of the SB I found one in stock at the Canton GA location, and drove 2 Hrs to go pick it up. If I was a smart man I would have unpacked it in the store and tested it out, but noooooo, I drove it all the way home, only to unpack it and find that the screen was damaged on that one too. Guess what, no SB party at my house. Had to call all my guests and rearrange going to a friends house, with a much smaller TV (65")...smh. The next day I called BB and explained to them all the issues and finally got the to come pick up the latest broken one (They gave me $300 discount for the issues) and deliver my last and final attempt at buying this TV, and low and behold, I finally got a good set with no damage whatsoever. I got it all the way unboxed, mounted up on the wall and it was glorious!! I am coming from a 75" Sony XBR-75X850D (2016), and the 10" in screen real estate is highly noticeable. The colors popped, the clarity is the picture is great and the settings menu will allow you to dial this beauty in just to your liking. I researched this TV and compared it to the LG OLED, the Sony OLED, and the Samsung QN 85, & 90A. For the money this gave me what I was after. I did almost go down a model and get the X91J, as it was $1500 cheaper, but in the end I decided to go with the better set with the newer processor. At the time of writing this the 2022 models will be out towards the end of the year, but I think if you have to have the latest and greatest and can stand to pay the price difference, then wait, but if not you won't be disappointed in this set at all. My use case (How I use and time spent) for this TV: Movies/Streaming - 60% Gaming - 30% STD Television - 10% This TV excels al all of the above, and even std TV is upcoverted really well. All in all I love it (Now that I have one without a Broken screen).

Not worth the premium price

I am a Sony enthusiast and have only owned Sony TV's for the last 10 years after swapping from Samsung. There is just something that appeals to me about their image processing. That being said, simply put, this TV is not worth the price over the 900h/91j. While there are a few extra settings that help the picture distinguish itself, they are not worth $1400. I have the 900h in 65 inch, and side by side could not distinguish any noticeable difference in color or contrast, apart from the ginormous size. The anti reflective coating on this TV (to me) make the reflections worse...it does dim the light source, but it deflects it across the length of the screen and is more distracting than the 900h. I have a window in my living room and I could not deal with the reflections across the screen. Are they brighter on the 900h...yes...but i can isolate the brightness and deal with it, yes. Here it just ruins the entire screen. There was on the unit I received very noticeable vertical banding that was present on landscapes and during sports games. The XR chip to me, just isn't worth the hype...I am returning this for a 91j which at time of writing is $1300 cheaper. If Best Buy sold this/discounted it to $2600 I would consider keeping it. Also at time of writing Sony released the patch that enabled VRR for this model and the 900h, but I haven't tested that functionality.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry to hear that we were not able to meet your expectations with the X-Anti Reflection, XR chip and banding issues with the X95J TV. If you are seeing vertical banding on the screen, this TV achieves high picture quality and a wide viewing angle due to its optical design. This phenomenon occurs as a result, but it's not a malfunction. The image of the TV screen won't be affected. Due to the characteristics of the LCD panel and the design of the X95J model series, it's easy to see the phenomenon on a monochrome still-picture. When the TV is installed with the top tilted back, this phenomenon is also easier to see. If it is installed and placed normally, the degree to which this phenomenon is noticed may be reduced. Lowering the contrast setting in the user menu may also make it less noticeable. The X95J model has not received the VRR update yet but please keep auto updates enabled for future updates when this is available in the future.

I purchased this tv on Monday and it shipped to the store on Wednesday. I picked it up with a cargo van & Geek Squad came out on Friday to mount it & hook everything else up. I would like to say that this tv is phenomenal. I did all the tests for it…DSE, Blooming, Motion Blur, and Dead Pixels as well. Blooming was slim to none on certain scenes. You would have to be really looking for it. There is no motion blur & zero dead pixels on this particular panel. Now can’t say for all panels just the I got. I can honestly say that this tv was well worth the wait. It’s not better than OLED but it sure is close. And to the Geek Squad members Phil & Joe. You guys were awesome in putting everything together & answering my questions. Wish I could give 10 stars. If you got the means & the funds I say go ahead & get this TV! It’s well worth the long wait!!

Hands down!!! I’ve had our 85” Sony X95j for about a week now and it has far exceeded our expectations! With a few picture setting tweaks to dial picture contrast and black levels, color, brightness, motion, and picture clarity in, it’s a phenomenal led tv! Let me tell you this tv is beautiful!! Everytime i watch a movie im blown away by the blacks and full richness of the colors. I highly recommend this tv you wont be dissapointed. Similar to previous reviews, the anti-reflection actually feels more intensified than a standard TV with pronounced streaks across the TV - so for that reason I wouldn’t specifically recommend this TV. Personally feel I should have saved the money and bought a different model.

Dirty grid pattern. Bad Panel?

It has a dirty grid pattern that is quite noticeable in areas of uniform color like skies, walls, etc. I can't unsee it and although I've spent time on forums and tweaked all the settings I can, it is not improving. Once on the forums, I realized that I am not the only one and it may be a crapshoot exchanging for one that does not have the issue.

TV Automatically Turns Off

We plugged it in then turned it on. It took about 15 seconds for a splash screen to be displayed. The TV then automatically shuts off. A red blinking light is then displayed below the monitor. We had to return it as a defective product. We were not only disappointed but surprised that this would occur for such an expensive TV. We lost faith in the Sony brand.

Close but not perfect, some issues

I think the X95J is one of if not the best 4k LED tv in 2021. I first started off with the Sony A80J but that panel had a couple dead pixels and the screen dims when gaming and you can't disable that OLED feature so I tried the LG G1 next but I had 2 bad panels ina row so I decided to try the X95J and it was a little bit of a let down in the QC department. My only real complaint in the QC is the banding. There's horizontal and vertical banding that you can see in content and gaming in light scenes. It's faint but I notice it and it bothers me. It may not bother other. At least this panel did not see any defective pixels. The tv is really bright, too bright for my room. If you have a bright room or just like bright tvs this one will do the trick, it's bright. Black levels are good though not OLED level of blacks. Watch a movie in the daytime or with the lights on st night and then black will look black. But watch a movie in the dark at night and you can tell the blacks are slightly lifted. This tv does suffer from aARC dropouts. A few times while steaming a movie the audio dropped out. I had to back it up a few frames and then play it from there and the audio came back. It happens 2 to 3 times during a 2 hour movie. Other than the QC issues and eARC dropouts I'd say this is a 4 star tv. But if you're a gamer, go LG OLED. Lastly it's too expensive, I picked it up on sale for $3400 but am exhanging it. At $4000 this tv is too expensive for what you get. The QN90A is even cheaper and that tv has more OLED like black levels. I'd say the X95J 85 inch should be about $3200 at most for what you get. This tv will be exchanged for an 83 inch LG C1. I just think as good as this tv can be, OLED tvs are just so much better.

Dark spots/dots can be caused by dead pixels, foreign material (such as dust, insects, spiders) trapped inside the panel, or physical damage.
High-precision technology is used to manufacture LCD and OLED displays to maintain a high standard of operation. However, with all LCD/OLED screens, regardless of manufacturer, there may be a small number of dots that do not change color. This is normal operation for LCD and OLED screens for all manufacturers. Most defects are only noticeable when an all-white or all-black picture is displayed and shouldn't be noticeable under normal operation.
