Upgraded from last year's G model and there are a few improvements that are noticeably better. Apps and menu navigation are much faster. Colors and brightness are flawless. HDR/Dolby Vision is blinding. Netflix is superior to any other streaming source.
I was VERY disappointed with this new model's remote. Last year was this cool brushed metal remote with substantial weight to it. This year they are back to cheap and flimsy plastic that feels like a kids toy. I'd pay to buy the metal remote just to have it back in my hand.
Also disappointed with lack of HDMI 2.1 support considering PS5 is a month away.

I’m coming from a 75 inch Samsung QLED from 2017. This Sony is good for most uses. This TV has thicker bezels so in my opinion doesn’t look as nice and clean on the wall. It gets plenty bright. Picture is good especially in 4K. I find my basic cable with Comcast just looks ok compared to my old Samsung. Operating system seems to run well. My biggest two complaints are the lack of hdmi 2.1 and the picture ratio seems off in standard HD. I have tried to adjust and it either doesn’t fill the whole screen or looks too zoomed in. I don’t remember that ever being an issue with my Samsung when watching regular HD cable.

Hello NikM,
Thank you so much for your review.
While we are pleased you are satisfied with the exceptional picture quality, Android operating system, and stylish bezel design of our X950H, we are sorry if it doesn't have some features you are looking for and if you are encountering picture issues when watching standard HD videos.
For HDMI 2.1, the X950H will support up to 18 Gbps transfer rate for 4K HDR and Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) to allow for Hi-res Audio including Dolby Atmos and DTSX which is considered an HDMI 2.1 feature.

The size the size the size....Wow. Picture quality is pretty good right out of the box. I can definitely say that it could and probably should have a professional calibration to get everything out of it that it has to offer. With 4K content it’s exceptional. 720 content pretty good. Sports broadcast through U-verse at 720 has some ghosting however that is more of a U-verse problem than a tv problem. This tv replaced a 75 inch Sony 900e that went out after 3 years. Hopefully this one doesn’t suffer from the same problem. I purchased Best Buy warranty on the previous tv and I am glad that I did because I was able to replace that tv with this one and some added money and felt pretty good about it. I did purchase the warranty for this tv as well just to have a piece of mind. Sony should have included hdmi 2.1 on this tv at this price point kinda disappointing.

Hi Jaysun,
Thanks for the feedback. There is much confusion about the HDMI versions and concerns about compatibility. For this reason, we do not promote the HDMI versions incorporated on many of our products. Instead, we advertise the features of a product that are associated with a particular HDMI version. For X950H, the TV will support up to 18Gbps signal for 4K HDR.

The picture is that excellent out of the box. I will be getting it calibrated and can only imagine what it will look like then. The android feature is nice and very quick. I mostly use the tv for sports and gaming and the processor is amazing and I see a lot less tearing in the picture then what I did with my previous tv. The picture lag is also way down and handles everything with ease. Sports have never been better to watch and the anti glare screen is above average as my last tv was also anti glare and I have less on this one. Highly recommend if your looking for an upper mid class 4K tv.

This TV is great for movies. Contrast, colors and details are superb. It lacks HDMI 2.1 features such as variable refresh rate and auto latency mode. But when it comes to watching movies and 99% of current games those features are irrelevant. The X950H is a great panel. I bought the 85 inch version and it makes watching 4K Blu-ray’s an amazing experience. Sound is nothing special, so a sound bar or external speakers are the way to go. All things considered, this is a superb panel.

My first real flat screen was a 65 in LG with a fantastic picture that I purchased back in 2016 . In 2018 I bought a 75 in Sony , which also had great picture , but of course bigger is better . Fast forward December 2019 , Sony 85 inch 850G now in the living room , with what I would say a 15% better picture , with a marked improvement on streaming and much better picture quality when playing 4k movies on my UDP 203 Oppo . Fast forward again to 2 weeks ago . I pulled the trigger on a 65 inch LG OLED , a disappointment as the picture was only as good as my 3 year old 75 inch Sony , so back to Best Buy it went , and was was replaced by the 85 Inch Sony "full array" , but it was the same picture as my 850G . Just let me say here the pictures were great but not an improvement for what I had . Digging really deep into my pockets the 85 inch Sony 950H was the next purchase , and more than I really expected . Streaming was faster and a much better picture , and I can honestly say ( and I didn't think possible ) the quality of 4k movies from the Oppo gave new meaning to the "wow" factor . This TV , as pricey as it is , was worth every penny . I don't watch regular TV shows and not concerned with sound , although the sound from the 950H is great , so I can only vouch for picture quality , and the 950H , knocks it out of the park !! Thank you Sony for a truly visual masterpiece !

The 950H has a spectacular picture, like all Sony TVs and it was with great regret that I had to exchange it for the 900H. The 950H is brighter and has a more advanced processor, which gives it a bit better picture when viewing the new high definition formats like Dolby Vision, but according to Sony it cannot not be upgraded with firmware to the new ASTC 3 broadcast format, which has begun rolling out this year. That format allows TV stations to broadcast in 4K, as well as stream in 4k, along with other features. The 950H also has no HDMI 2.1 ports, so that limits the features of connected devices like Blue Ray players, gaming consoles and sound systems. If you don't care about those things and just want a great picture for from legacy format sources, the 950H can be a great buy in it's final year in production. Be aware that the 900H does not yet receive ASTC 3 either, but because it has HDMI 2.1 capability, it can and will soon be updated with firmware that will enable it, according to Sony. Also be aware that stations are not required to upgrade to ASTC 3 and it is mostly only mostly in large cities up to now. If you live in a rural area, it may be some time before it comes to you, but when it comes, the 950H will not be able to receive that channel.

Hi My2cents
We're glad to hear that you appreciate the picture quality of the X950H. We regret to hear that you exchange it for the X900H. Was the software of your X900H updated(v6.0466)? Firmware update version v6.0466 is now available to improve the general performance of the TV and Adds support for NEXTGEN TV (ATSC 3.0). Please make sure your TV is connected to the internet and the Automatic Software Update setting is set to ON to keep the software updated to the most current version.
The automatic update is released on a staggered schedule so it may take a week or so before it is sent to your TV. If you don’t want to wait for the automatic update, you can download the update from the downloads page for your TV model and manually install it. https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/downloads/00017158

This television has excellent picture quality and sound. It is easy to set up, connect to a wifi network and add cable and sound bar.
The menu allows you to make a number of adjustments to picture and sound quality. Sony gives a number of free channels to watch as well as pay for view apps. My one complaint is that Sony does not have as many apps as a Vizio I own and needs to increase the number of apps it offers across the board.

Good system, but it really stinks that Sony upgraded the cheaper 900h with HDMI 2.1 and left this out to dry. Voice control and apps are snappy. Blacks are closest I’ve seen to my OLED (but I can still see the difference). Oh, and surprise, they cheaped out and put a 100 megabit ethernet port in. I wired my house with CAT6 and was really annoyed to see the wifi was faster than wired. Is it required to have gigabit? No, but it would have been nice. With all the support and upgrades going to the cheaper model, the 900h, I’m very confused as to why Sony would think I’d buy another premium product from them?

This TV is amazing, We went with this size due to the size of our theater room was not able to support projection. With the Distance from seat to screen the 85 gives you a true theater experience. The processing power and apps make this a good buy. Now is just having the 4k content to be able to enjoy what this TV can do..
I showed the Mrs a regular channel and she was like "looks like the other tv" in 1080.. Then I went to youtube 4k and she was like "WOW" and few other words!! Was an big difference in clarity!
Got this on sale but still the most expensive TV we have ever bought. reason for one start off..

This is my third Sony Bravia so I'm obviously happy with the product. I bought a 75 2 years ago and love it. I recently moved to a house with a larger family room and a large loft so the 85 is a perfect addition whilst the 75 moves to the loft. The Android TV functionality works well and set up was easy with my Android phone. The key to this TV vs cheaper models of large TVs is the full array backlighting. It really does make a difference. Tip: Have it delivered. The box is HUGE.
