But even at regular price it still is tough to beat. I bought an LG for my new house an 86" and had it taken back and swapped out for this. What a difference and what a much better TV the sony is. I also have a 65" samsung and the sony speakers are the best in the biz, the interface is quick and smooth with no lag at all, the backlighting is amazing with the best blacks I've seen the viewing angles are amazing and the clarity and resolution has given me the nicest TV of anyone I know. Seriously...buy this tv.

Obviously it is going to be much better($$$) but the quality is noticed immediately. The only knock on it is that the quality of streaming (Netflix, Hulu, etc) is MUCH better when I play them from my Xbox, than from the native apps. I figured the native apps would play them best, but the Xbox played everything better. Dolby digital only activated on the Xbox version of Netflix. Make sure to change the HDMI settings to “Enhanced”. Took me a month to realize I was gaming on 720p (still looked good) but now it looks amazing! And with HDMI 2.1 support, it’s future proof. Highly recommend.

The picture is amazing, I have it connected to a Sony AV 4K receiver and really appreciate the simplicity of have all Sony equipment. We the TV mounted about 5 foot above the floor and have a 5.2 surround sound set up and it's like being at the movies. We couldn't be more pleased with the picture quality. Additionally, the price dropped by about $300 a few days after the TV was delivered and we were able to get the reduced price. It took several attempts and time on the phone with the customer service but I was finally able to connect with someone who understood.

The 900H is the best one yet as far as picture and features. I have done extensive research on 85 inch TVs before buying. In my opinion the picture quality and lighting display is sub-par on the 800H and with the 950H I did not see a noticeable difference in quality of the images and specs. 900H was the perfect value for the quality. Having airplay built in is by far the best new feature on the H series. I’m a loyal Sony customer when it comes to TVs- in the same price range I don’t think that Samsung or LG compare. Definitely worth considering!

The picture is bright, sharp, and looks amazing close up or far away. I actually sit 20 ft from it most of the time and still feel fully immersed in whatever I am watching. Local dimming blooms a bit in certain situations, such as bright credits on a dark screen, when using the default Medium setting. However turning this up to High solves the problem. It should be noted that this not a change it once and forget about setting. It needs to be adjusted for HDMI, internal apps, etc.

With a few minor tweaks of calibration settings this tv is in my opinion just about perfect of a picture as you can get without going oled and obviously spending much more money. It is way brighter than I expected. I actually have the brightness setting down very low and still have friends commenting on how bright the tv is right when the walk in the room. The only issue I am having is the operating system not syncing my 2020 model denon avr. I have seen others commenting on the same problem with it not meshing well with denon receivers. Overall love the tv.

Because I have an older 65" Sony and a 55" Samsung. The older Samsung had a better Smart feature than the older Sony. Luckily when I finally decided to go with the Samsung it wasn't available. So I did further research and was very satisfied with what I read about the Sony. Now that I have it at home and I am using it I can tell you the Smart features are perfect and have been improved and the fact that it has configured everything else to work with it has made it very easy to use. I am very happy with my choice.

Great picture, firmware is glitchy,no tech support

It was between Sony, LG, and Samsung. LG did NOT get the best technical reviews especially with their attempt at full array backlighting. Samsung has excellent reviews, but the price is substantially higher (almost $1,000). I scored this 85 inch TV with full array backlighting for $1969 which is an awesome price for what it is. The picture is very impressive due to the FALD backlighting and the contrast rivals OLED. The firmware, however, is glitchy. It has stopped streaming 3 times already. One time required me to factory reset it. It freezes at times, etc. It is also a challenge to get it to work properly with the Sony surround sound receiver. The most frustrating part is that tech support is almost impossible to contact in order to iron out these issues.

Great TV! Really needs the eARC upgrade

The only reason why I don't give it 5 stars is that it doesn't have that eARC/VRR/ALLM/HDMI 2.1 update yet. At least eARC would make interaction with other devices much better. It's pretty buggy at the moment, and controlling everything with a single remote is hard. I'm using harmony to do this, and it's been hard to set everything up the right way. My setup is an AVR + the TV + harmony There are 2 weird bugs that I've come across 1) When using ARC, sometimes the video signal from HDMI devices sends sounds but NO VIDEO. The fix has been to unplug the TV and plug it back in. This is rare, but has happened a couple times. 2) Hulu App + Harmony doesn't work. Not sure why, and it's annoying... But video quality is great and once the sofware is updated I expect things to be much better.

Great TV. However...

However, after only 3 months it cometely stopped working. Did all the trouble shooting as stated in the manual. Nothing. It didnt turn on at all. Yes, I do have the tv connected to a monster surge protector. I even unplugged it when I left the house. So I know the failure was not caused by faulty power. I didnt get the extended warranty. Fortunately the TV does have a ONE year parts & labor warranty. I called Sony'a customer service, directly for service. To make a long story short. Between the Sony rep not getting my info right when I first called. To calling Sony back a week later. Then having to wait for the local Sony repair location to get the parts. It took 3 weeks to get the TV repaired. Turns out it was the CPU that failed. How do I know. After the tech did the diagnostics. They told me. In addition when the tech took out the replacement CPU unit. The heatsink on the new unit was completely redesigned vs. the old one. Which I thought was interesting. Since the repair was completed. There have not been any problems with this TV. I hope not have any more in the future. (knock on wood) Yes. The TV has an incredible picture. When my wife & I saw it at the store. She stated, she really couldnt see the difference between it, the Samsung & LG. But I could. Finally, in my eyes, Sony has made a flat panel TV that now produces an image worthy of their legendary XBR tube TVs. Those XBRs had no equal back in thier day. (I even sold them for a time.) When it was delivered and installed. I went thru the onscreen setup. Which was fairly straight forward. Plus it told me as we went along when to connect my devices. I have Sony 4K Bluray player & Roku Ultra 4k box. For sound, I connected it my old Yamaha DSP-A1 via optical audio output. For "regular" audio used the aux output to connect it my Vizio sound bar. First movie I put on was PoC: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Needless to say my wifes jaw hit the ground. She couldnt believe just how incredible the picture was. Even she said it looked better at home than in the store. My family and I love this TV. Its literally movie night, every night at home now. (I think there was an old tv ad that said something like this.) If you have not had any problems with this TV consider yourself fortunate. If you have, at least Sony put a 1 year P & L warr. on this unit. If you got the extended warr. Great for you! That this TV failed after only three months and the three week wait to get it fixed. Is the PRIMARY reason for my 3 star review.
