Screen Already Went Bad With Whites
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am quite discouraged with the screen quality after only 1.5 Years. As you can see from the photos, the white pixels are no longer working properly and Sony basically said I am out of the 1 year warranty and it is my problem. You would think that you buy a $2100.00 Television it would last longer than 15 months? I cannot recommend this television. The Model # is XBR-85X900H

We sincerely regret to hear you are having an issue with your X900H. This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have in our product. This issue is under investigation, and we are diligently working to provide a resolution. In the meantime, here are some steps which may temporarily fix the issue.

2. Set the RS232C control to Via serial port.
Note: This setting may affect the power consumption of the TV.

Excellent TV for PS4 and PS5
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV has accurate color, good contrast and black level. HDR also looks great in my dimly lit living room. The built-in TV app with channel guide is very easy to use and you can add channels from other apps like Xumo. I use the built-in tuner with an indoor antenna to pick up local stations, that works great. Viewing 4k HDR is a wonder. Black levels do get raised in HDR though, but not a problem if viewing bright scenes. When playing some PS4 games that have a black loading screen, with white text/icons, there is some blooming. This is one area that could be improved upon with more backlit zones. Otherwise it is not an issue during movies or games. Android TV menus and apps are very responsive. This TV is also getting HDMI 2.1 in a future firmware update, which makes it an excellent TV for the upcoming PS5.

Must Buy TV of 2020/2021.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did ALOT of research on TV's prior to buying our next set. We wanted a large screen (75") that was mostly future proof in terms of everything other than 8K. So it needed HDMI 2.1 (4K/120), VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision and HDR, Dolby Atmos support, eARC, etc. This one was one of the few sets that hit all the marked. The other two we were looking at were the LG CX 77", and the Sony Z9H. Now before I go any further, this set still does not have VRR or ALLM activated as Sony has said they will be coming spring 2021 with a firmware update. But knowing they are coming for my Xbox Series X is reassuring. Alot of people complain with this TV about the lack of these features but it doens't really bother me much. The TV itself looks amazing!!!! The large 85" screen is breathtaking, and I love how it automatically sees the Xbox and puts it into Game Mode. We are loving Dolby Vision and once we get our soundbar, Dolby Atmos will be great Im sure. My only complaint on this TV is the weight. It is just over 100 lbs so mounting it on the wall was difficult and you need to make sure your wall will support it. Luckily we had a blocked section of our wall. This is a MUST BUY TV for 2020 and probably 2021. The value is amazing

Blown Away
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Tv is a bargain at this price. In my opinion this is the best LED Sony has ever made. Very minimal blooming with brightness settings maxed. Color was almost perfect out of the box. Movies in Dolby Vision are beautiful and bright. Android UI is snappy and Netflix Calibrated Mode looks great. Paired perfectly with my Sonos Arc. This tv is future proofed with ATSC 3.0 and 2 HDMI 2.1 inputs. What more can you ask for? Buy with confidence.

Sony got this one right!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've previously owned 85" Sony 800F and 85" Sony 850G. The 800F was a solid tv with good picture quality overall. But its off axis image was bad and it's blacks were only decent due to no local dimming. 850G had excellent motion handling, good reflection handling, a sharp crisp image and great off axis viewing due to x wide technology. However its black levels were HORRIBLE. No local dimming and blotchy spots on screen due to backllight bleed made it unwatchable in a dark room. Both the 800F and 850G had intense blooming which bled into the horizontal bars on wide aspect movies. Enter the 900H. I love this tv as soon as I powered it on. Excellent picture quality out of the box. It does not have x wide tech which killed the black levels on the 950G and 850G. Here is a list of pros and cons below: Pros Good brightness. Great color accuracy out of the box. Only low levels of blooming when local dimming is on. Excellent shadow detail. Sharp, crisp picture. Reality creation not as aggressive as in previous models. Excellent motion handling with sports and gaming. Cons Blacks are greyish when local dimming is off. Minimal color shift and washout when viewed 30-45 degrees off axis. Overall, this tv is a great improvement from the F series and G series. I highly recommend it.

Great 85” TV for the price
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this TV in an 85” to complete my home theater. I went back and forth between a projector and the 85” TVs and after much deliberation, I decided that the brightness and functionality of a TV would be superior since the size is fairly close to a projector. After deciding this, I narrowed my search and price range between the Samsung q70 and Sony x900h. The LG and A few others weren’t in the running due to in person view of the picture quality. I also viewed and researched the x950h and q80/90 Samsung models for comparison. The price point and features of this model, especially on sale, checks most of the boxes that you will want and need with a home theater setup. Spending the extra $1000-1500 on the higher end models seemed like a waste since a mid-level model such as the x900h had so many of the same features and within 98% of the picture quality of the other models. It does fairly well handling motion and gets decently bright for its size. Depending on your streaming or input, this will greatly determine the quality of picture, but with the 4K blu ray and streaming in UHD on Netflix/Hbo max etc, you won’t be disappointed. It does fairly well upscaling lower quality inputs, but you can’t expect the world due to its size. I chose the x900h for its size, clarity, features, and price point over the q70 and higher end models and am happy with my purchase. Sony had a good reputation and it’s picture quality is second to none. On a side note, it is very heavy at just over 100 pounds, so be sure to get a solid wall mount!

||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the x900F...had an issue with that one and it was replaced through the Best Buy extended warranty for free. Magnolia team came and remounted the new replacement...out of the box and on the wall. Default settings look AMAZING!! Can't believe how much improvement from just two models ago this TV is. Picture is INCREDIBLE!! Amazing blacks, mind blowing color, MUCH faster processor than the 900G. Has HDMI 2.1 for 4K 120FPS next-gen gaming...this thing is just jaw droppingly beautiful!!

Great tv for the price
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this TV for about 2 weeks now. I love it so far. Out of the box setting are decent. I messed with the settings for a few days till I got it where I wanted it. This tv is able to get very bright imo. It doesn't have the anti glare layer like the 950H but it does get bright enough in a lit room not to notice the lights to much in most scenes. In a dark room with local dimming on high, the blacks are great for an LED. Minimal blooming even with brightness turned all the way up. Turn the brightness down a couple clicks and the blooming almost goes away completely. Angled viewing is decent. I have no issues sitting at my dinning table watching TV at about 30* Colors are good on this TV. The Qled tvs might be just a bit better. I looked at the Q80T before getting this one but it's quite a bit more money. Onboard menu and apps are smooth, no lagging that I can see. Speakers are not bad on this either. I have a Klipsch system so I won't be needing to use them. I'm not much of a gamer so can't speak on input lag or anything like that. I'm curious to see what rtings.com has to say about this TV when they finally review it. All in all for what I got for the price, I'm very happy with it. If you get the 85", make sure you have help to mount it. It's a beast.

Want to give 5 but there is a DD+/ARC issue
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this TV mid August. Immediately on startup, there was a white noise hissing heard over my speaker channels. I paid no attention since I hadn't "setup" the TV yet. Fast forward to post setup. Everything is plugged into my AVR (Yamaha RX A 3070) a beast of a receiver powering a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos setup, and from there a single output over a 4K Sky Audioquest 8' HDMI cable to the ARC (future eARC) port on the TV. Here's the bad. There is a conflict only when using DD+ mode (which also carries the Atmos code) that causes the AVR and TV to drop the handshake and resort to a white noise that is heard over the speakers. It cannot be reset until you power off the TV and Receiver. It works then until it doesn't. This ONLY happens from within internal Apps played over the ARC. Any external devices hooked up to the receiver and playing over the ARC deliver the video/audio fine. I am running the latest firmware on my reeiver and it worked perfectly with my XBR 900E. I have contacted Sony but they are at a loss through their tech support and are still researching my case number. I thought it may have been the TV's fault, and I returned my previous TV to Best Buy and purchased the same 900H model. Hooked it up and the same issue occured. Now here is the maybe good news...There is a firmware coming which will address the current ARC 2.0 and turn it into an eARC 2.1 in addition to other HDMI ports. Also, is the promise of 4k/120Hz support. I'm hoping the firmware fixes the DD+/ARC issue as I have exhausted my research on what can be done without software changes. This being said, I would still highly recommend the TV for it's picture quality. It is simply astounding when set up correctly. The black levels are near OLED quality in my home theater. In the meantime, I am getting an nVidia Shield TV Pro to handle my Atmos/DTS/DD+ issues and forego the built in Android interface for now. One other small negative is the silver thin bezel...I prefer a black matte bezel like my 900E has....but that's a small nitpick...in a dark room, you really can't see it So buyer beware of these small issues, but overall, I still recommend this TV - you're buying it for picture quality after all, and it delivers that in spades! I may bump this up to a 5 star if the ARC/eARC DD+ issue gets addressed.

So close, but not perfect.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good tv, has a great picture and hdmi 2.1 but not all 2.1 features are currently available. I think this TV is a good value unless you have your heart set on Variable refresh rate... which is supposed to be supported via an upcoming firmware. I'm not crazy about the fact that the firmware update is something that I am still waiting to receive. If all hdmi 2.1 features are important to you then I would recommend you wait for the 2021 x900g series. My only real complaint is how reflective I found the screen to be, which can be really distracting in dark scenes. I bought this TV during black friday sales and found great value for what I got versus what I paid. I typically have liked the colors associated with Samsung, but my last two tv purchases have been from Sony and I am very pleased. I was torn between this and the samsung q80t. These two sets are very comparable but the pricing on the q80t was significantly higher for the size I was looking to purchase. This tv can get very bright, it has very nice color's out of the box and it handles 4k @ 120 for my ps5 and xbox series x. It has two hdmi that support hdmi 2.1 eArc and 4k @ 120 and a promised firmware update that will allow for variable refresh rate.

Better than the SONY 950 Series!!!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best TV available by SONY! The 900 Series is far superior to the 950 series, and saves you close to a $1,000 in comparison. If you like gaming, exceptional BIG SCREEN detail and definition, tremendous sound and versatility - GET THE 85" X900H Series LED 4K UHD Smart Android TV. Blacker blacks. Ultra fast refresh rates. The so called 'upgraded' version to this is the 950 Series, but ONLY the 900 Series has HDMI2 inputs, which is what you will want with your PS5. The 950 Series does NOT offer HDMI2. All the 950 Series basically gives you, for an extra $1,000, is a better side-viewing picture, which is not worth it. You're getting an 85" tv, which is going to dominate your wall - you aren't going to be watching much which ISN'T straight-on-viewing. Go with the 900 Series for the better picture and the HDMI2 inputs for the gaming peripherals.

85" Sony TV makes a mancave.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the TV installed now for nearly a month. I have the TV hooked up to an AppleTv 5th generation and a PS4 all through a Pioneer receiver via a surround sound system. I have zero complaints about the quality of the picture and the ease with which this works with my existing sound system. The unit itself is hefty and I recommend using a minimum of three strong bodies if mounting on a wall. You may be able to get by with two if setting up using the stands. These are 60" apart in case you plan to use stands. I have watched the entire NFL playoff lineup and it truly places you in the action. We are beginning to enjoy movies on this unit as well. This is our third Sony TV purchase for our home and all our units are working without issue.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing tv!! I got the 85 inch version on sale for close to $1900. I’ve used it for tons of movies and PS4 gaming. Very very bright picture, and the settings allow you to set up the picture exactly as you want depending on how dark you want your blacks and how bright you want your whites and how vivid you want you colors. Also does Dolby Vision, HDR, and SDR. Works fine with standard 4K HDMI cables, BUT the picture is noticeably crisper and brighter with a higher end HDMI cable. I switched to a 48 Gbps cable, and I have no regrets about spending the extra cash. This is an expensive tv, so don’t go too cheap on the cable. Setup was a breeze also. User interface is wonderful. Highly recommend!!

Corners cut in connectivity and remote control.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Be prepared to be disappointed in two aspects of this TV. The first is the Sonys' minimalist view of how this TV will be connected - especially to more "vintage" home theater receivers that are not centered around HDMI connectivity but the RCA connector world. There is no RCA audio out ports. There is as would be expected, HDMI with ARC ports and optical output ports. The headphone out port in the back of the TV is the only thing that saves you from having to implement an optical connection or to obtain an HDMI to an analog converter box. Luckily you can use a miniature 3.5mm stereo to 2x RCA female connectors if you have older RCA inputs on your receiver. Clunky at best.Cheap though less than $6.00 not $20-30 for optical cable or a converter box. Second - what is up with this cheesy cheap non-backlit remote? For this kind of money, a decent remote should have been included. Note that they do not show either the connections on the back of the TV or the remote in the images. There is a reason. As far as the actual operation of the TV - the android interface does not thrill either. Still prefer the Amazon FireStick 4K interface and easy side loading of apps as compared to the Sony. The picture is quite nice and everything we had hoped for. Good thing we have a good home theater receiver and speakers - Yamaha receiver with Polk 5.1 speaker setup with subwoofer - because the sound from just the TV is hardly worth it. What can you expect from such a thin TV?
