The Ultimate Hybrid Camera

The Sony Alpha 7 IV (A7M4) is, without a doubt, one of the best cameras available today. Striking the perfect balance between photo and video capabilities, it stands out as an incredibly versatile and intelligent choice at a reasonable price.
One of its key strengths is its ability to excel in both photography and videography. Unlike many cameras that compromise on one aspect, the A7M4 delivers stunning image quality while also offering impressive 4K video recording. While it does apply a 1.5x crop in 4K 60p mode, especially when compared to the FX3, this is hardly a deal-breaker. In fact, for portrait and subject-focused shots, the slight crop can enhance framing and composition, providing beautiful, natural skin tones with built-in processing that make subjects look even better on screen.
On the photography side, the 33MP sensor delivers sharp, high-resolution images with excellent dynamic range. Whether capturing landscapes, portraits, or street photography, the A7M4 produces consistent and professional results. The advanced autofocus system with real-time tracking ensures precise and reliable focus, making it a dream for both stills and video work.
For those working in content creation or production, the A7M4 is a must-have tool. It offers dual functionality without requiring multiple camera systems, making it an ideal choice for filmmakers, photographers, and hybrid shooters alike. The ergonomic design, improved menu system, and customizable controls also make it a joy to use in professional workflows.
If you’re looking for one camera that does it all, the Sony Alpha 7 IV is the ultimate choice. It’s an essential piece of gear for anyone in production, delivering versatility, reliability, and outstanding image quality all in a single package.

This camera feels undeniably premium from the moment you pick it up. The build quality is solid and reassuring, with a finish that looks and feels high-end. The controls and buttons are well-placed, and the menu system is intuitive and easy to navigate even for beginners. Finding settings and making adjustments is quick and hassle-free, which makes shooting more enjoyable and less distracting.
One of my favorite features is the adjustable screen. It adds so much convenience when taking photos from tricky angles, whether you’re shooting low to the ground, above a crowd, or capturing selfies. It tilts and rotates smoothly, making framing shots a breeze in almost any situation.

Upgrading from an A7III. Using it for real estate photography. Love the upgraded menu system and resolution. Photos are sharper and love having more megapixels, which helps with cropping. Quieter shutter, larger viewfinder. The flip out screen is awesome and comes in handy when shooting vertical. My only cons are battery life. Definitely took a hit in that department. Other than that the camera is perfect and I plan to put it to work for years to come

The Sony A7 IV is a beast! I’ve used it for weddings, sports, and portraits, and the image quality is stunning. The 4K 60fps, 10-bit 4:2:2 video gives me plenty of flexibility in post. Autofocus is super fast and reliable. It’s worth every penny—highly recommended for professionals and serious creators!

Absolutely an amazing camera! I am a wedding photographer / Videographer. My a7siii is my primary for video, and this a7iv is my primary for photo. Great color science and resolution for photo, and also great for video. 4k 60 is cropped in this camera, but it still looks great, and does well in low light. I highly recommend this camera! Especially for people who shoot both photo and video.

Sony a7 IV Review – A Year In
I’ve been using the Sony a7 IV for almost a year now, and I can honestly say it handles just about anything I throw at it. I do both videography and photography professionally, and I love that this camera can manage both with ease. The colors and image quality are always super crisp, no matter the setting.
One of my favorite features is the full-size HDMI port. It makes plugging in my external monitor quick and hassle-free, which is huge when I’m working on video shoots.
Of course, once you add a lens, especially larger ones, the setup can get heavy after long hours of use. But the results are absolutely worth it.
Overall, I really love this camera. It’s been incredibly reliable, and I can tell it’s going to last me a long time. If you’re looking for a hybrid camera that delivers on both photo and video, the a7 IV is a solid choice. If you're looking for a camera that can handle it all this is it.

The menu is different but has the same info and then some, stil haven't gotten to all of the functionality yet BUT loving it so far, the lock on tracking is soooo much better than my a7riii and the low light capabilities are still amazing. The shutter button feel is a favorite (as silly as that sounds if you get it you know what I mean) I realllllly want the a7v but didn’t want to wait any more as the release keeps getting pushed back. Adding a shot from one of my first sessions with it.

I am really just getting started with photography. I had purchased a Sony ZV-E10 and liked it. I added a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 lens so i could start shooting my son’s hockey and lacrosse. I was not happy with the photos I was getting. In talking to friends they told me that the ZV-E10 was limiting me. So as the next lacrosse season heated up this year I purchased this A7 IV. After shooting a number or tournaments now with it I can say with confidence that it made an unbelievable difference. Even the small things like having a viewfinder made it possible to shoot outside in sunlight. The ZV-E10 only has the monitor which was washed out in direct sunlight making it almost impossible to frame a shot. Also, the speed of being able to take a burst of shots with the A7 IV has allowed me to catch some awesome frozen moments in time. I received countless compliments from fellow parents for the photos I shared. As hockey season starts up I am looking forward to see what this thing can do.

I've had the A7iii for 4 years and finally upgraded. This camera is amazing. Shooting 10 bit for video and also a powerhouse for photography. I love the extra dynamic range I am getting. The colors do look better on this camera. Auto focus seems very responsive and all of my lenses have worked flawlessly on it so far. The menu system is updated and takes a while to get used to. Overall, it's a great camera so far. I can't wait to shoot with it more.

Ridiculously versatile camera! Easy to customize buttons and menus make adjusting in the fly incredibly easy. Love the versatility of the dual memory card slots even though the one is a less popular type of memory. When paired with the 24-70 2.8 GM I was able to take some of my best photos and videos to date! The firmware update process is a little arduous but not the worst. Battery lasts a good while but I’ve had to swap to a spare on longer shoots.

First and foremost, the a7 IV's 33-megapixel full-frame sensor delivers stunning image quality with exceptional detail, dynamic range, and low-light performance. I get compliments on my work all the time. The picture below doesn't do justice because it won't let me upload it in high resolution.

Exactly what I was looking for in a hybrid camera with the features of much higher priced models. Have been using it for everything from Astrophotography to portrait work and it's been a pretty painless experience.

This camera tops all that we've had, my partner came from a mirrorless Canon and I came from a Nikon DSLR, this has us not looking back. Yes- we both got the same camera as this is so multifunctional it serves all of our needs. Pair it with various G to GM lenses, this camera tops at the price point.

I’ve been using this camera for about a month now, and I’ve encountered a couple of issues. The most significant one is that the viewfinder doesn’t turn on. I found a workaround by closing the screen and moving the lenses, which seems to resolve the problem. Another issue is that the camera turns off when I’m outside. I’m not sure if it’s due to overheating, but I doubt it since I don’t use the camera for more than 10 minutes at a time. However, these issues don’t usually occur, but I’m concerned that they might happen during a work shoot. Despite these problems, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using this camera.
I understand why this camera is highly recommended. It takes great pictures and video, and everything is straightforward. If you’re unsure whether you prefer video or photography, this camera offers a great all-around solution.

HUGE improvement from the A7iii. No noise or focus issues whatsoever. Easy to use, and I love that I can still use SD cards in both slots and that I’m not forced to use a CF card lol. Definitely worth the extra $500-$600 from the A7iii. Highly recommend.
Hello HollyA, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're happy to hear you are enjoying the camera and are happy with your upgrade. The convenience of the two SD card slot is a great feature.
