    Still needs some work

Sounds great when playing back itunes, mp3 and wav files. However, some wma files play back with a clicking noise at the beginning. The same files sound perfect when played directly on my computer. These are songs from different cds and I've even tried this on different computers so it's definitely a problem with the Sony S-air cast software. I've tried various wma settings and some settings seem to be better than others but I think I can still hear some clicking. Lossless WMA sounds the worst. My computer is a quad core 2.4Ghz with 3GB memory running Vista Home Pro with all the latest patches so I don't think it's an OS or performance problem. Bottom line is don't use WMA until Sony fixes this problem. I keep checking the Sony site for software updates but none so far. Just like most of similar devices, the front panel display has too few characters and cuts off the end of most album names which makes it difficult to choose the right one. A work-around is to change album names to something shorter. The purpose and use of some of the buttons on the reciever and remote is anything but self evident. It takes a lot of playing to discover how they work. The user's guide on the supplied cd needs more information.

So glad I tried Sony Altus

I couldn't be happier with the product. I purchased the transmitter/receiver that you plug into an existing stereo system. Also purchased an extra receiver for another existing stereo and a socket speaker. My laptop is on the second floor. I use the socket speaker in bedroom, one receiver on first level and one receiver in the basement bar. Reception has been great. Sound quality is great. I can run all speakers simultaniously for whole-house audio. Not sure why others had issues. I didn't bother to install the software. Just plugged everything in. I run iTunes on laptop and use my iPod Touch Remote functionality to change songs so I don't know how the remotes that come with the system work.

    Could be better

Devices linked after following Quick Setup, but no sound would play over home audio system using Windows XP and Media Player 11. First support person (chat) told me to "try it on a different computer". Second support person (phone) told me that there were compatibility issues with Windows MP 11, that it would not work, that I would have to contact Microsoft, and that they recommended I use another player like iTunes. Unit worked with iTunes8, but the remote is functionless with iTunes9. Finally discovered on my own this evening that in addition to making sure your audio device is set to AIR-PC10T, you just have to go into Tools>Options>Devices>Speakers on WMP11, and change the Properties setting from your audio card to the Sony AIR PC10T device. Finally, device and remote are both working. Most frustrating experience thanks to absolutely deplorable tech support.

You don't have to install the sony software for this thing to work. I think that might have messed up earlier reviewers. I installed on a laptop and roamed throughout my entire house without losing connectivity to the receiver unit. This was on a sony laptop running windows 7 home. I bring the unit on family trips for a source of portable tunes. I'm not sure if you can pair one transmitter with multiple receivers but it sounds like you can.

    Easy to Use, Cool System

Just installed this in a matter of minutes to my klipsch home theater and can say I am pretty satisfied with the sound I am getting, especially for a wireless device. It is able to play ALL sounds out of my computer. Also bought an additional Sony Altus wireless speaker and put it in the bathroom. Although the additional speaker does not have great volume, it serves the purpose. My only complaint about this system is that it does not have an optical out for better sound quality through my home theater system. Pretty cool device overall.

Excellent product. The sound quality is as good as connecting the speakers directly wirelessly to the source. Very good thing is you can hook the receiver to any RCA input speaker and not just to expensive Sony speakers.

It took about 10 minutes and I was able to access all my Itunes music and play it on my stereo. I had tried to use a wireless unit from a different company and I was never able to get it to function. The Sony was also a good value as I purchased it on sale.

I have one of these for my small two-story home. I got it to work okay once but the transmission was intermittent at best. The last time I tried to use it the device and my PC were right next to each other and it didn't work at all. It now sits in my attic unused.

    Not worth the $$

I bought it to set up multiroom wireless audio with my SONY Home Theater and also because it was on sale @ $99 (orig. price $199). I am not a complete novice in hooking up home theater system, but I still find it more complicated that expected to make this unit work. Worse is the package doesn't even include a speaker so I had to find a spare speaker and pair of speaker wires to connect it. The sound was so-so, enough for my need at least. But with the already halved price, it still stands a little pricey while basic components like speaker(s) lack and it's only transmitting in RF signal. I ended up returning it after 10 minutes of usage.

Sounds like a tin can and compatability issues

Took much longer than it should have to set up. Once setup, found that it is not compatible with Rhapsody and has difficulty finding WMA. Playlists are difficult to setup and the remote doesn't let you change lists midstream. The remote doesn't display enough characters. Volume can't be turned up much. I have my computer at 100% and each speaker set to 100% and the sound would quickly be lost in a small group of 10 people's chatter. Remote is not compatible with Pandora, so if a sucky song comes on, I have to go upstairs to the computer to skip it. Very disappointed with this product so far and it will likely go back to the store and won't think twice about it. Because of the problems and the expensive price, it is not worth keeping.

    Not Ready for Prime Time

I want to play my digital music stored on my PC hard drive through my Sony surround receiver and RCA bookshelf speakers but the sound quality is not that great and I keep getting audio dropouts with the ALT A33PC. I thought since this does not use my existing wireless network that I would not have this type problem. With my extensive audio library the “advanced remote” mode is unworkable because of the shear number of music tracks to sort through. The hardware and software was easy enough to setup but I am unable to monitor audio on my computer speakers when the ALT A33PC is in use. Windows 7 users must download the software and driver from the Sony Style web site.
