Customers recognize the Cyber-Shot HX90V's excellent zoom capabilities and impressive picture quality. Its compact size and ease of use are also frequently praised, along with the helpful flash and additional features. A shorter battery life is the main drawback reported by some users.

Love the compact size and zoom reach. But low light picture quality is very bad.

Camera was an open-box item. Seemed to work ok in the store but once I started using it it kept turning itself on without me touching it which ended up running down the battery. I returned it.

First the good:
- Nice photos considering how small the sensor is. Sony is really working some magic with their jpeg processing in the camera.
- Does some miracles with automatic multiple exposures to tame HDR or low-light situations. Again, some magic happening here.
- Extremely long zoom (but be sure to disable the "digital" zoom as that's only an in-camera crop which you'd be better off doing in your computer's photo editing app).
- Can charge with a standard micro-USB cable (and even the same charger I use for my phone, tablet, etc.). But you still want to buy extra batteries and an external charger. I find the Wasabi brand has a package with charger and a couple of batteries up on that "jungle" site.(hint, hint, wink, wink. say no more.)
Now the bad:
- Within a few months, the sensor developed a "smear" (almost looked like someone fingerpainted over an area of the photo) that was apparent when reviewing photos in the camera, on-screen on my computer, and when printed. It took -two- trips back to Sony's -only- repair depot for these cameras for them to even see the flaw (even though I sent printed photos!) and then, they returned the camera to me with extreme vignetting in the corner (they munged the repair badly) that was not only on the camera screen & viewfinder prior to taking the shot but showed up in the pictures when reviewed in-camera, on my computer screen and when printed. Another trip back and forth and they said they didn't see -this- problem (again, I sent photos!). Finally, after a series of escalations to Customer Relations including an eMail to the CEO, they sent me a new camera to replace the one their repair depot had destroyed. Unfortunately, there is no other repair depot (except for the one they use for their DSLRs). I guess I should be happy that I got the new camera but the experience with Sony support convinced me they care more for "process" than "customer satisfaction". And that's the sign of an end-stage company.
- In an effort to make this camera really tiny, Sony left off a decent grip so the wrist strap is a necessity as you -will- drop it otherwise.
- The popup viewfinder is a bit of a pain but I knew that going in. If you don't need the viewfinder and can live with a large LCD screen on the rear of the camera, there are other, cheaper models.
- There is a "delicate" feeling about this camera that is off-putting. Maybe if they had made it about 20% larger some of the parts and construction techniques would yield a more rugged feel. It still would have been pocketable.
We still have the camera and my wife likes it for our travels but would I, for example, spend $1000 on a new Sony A6300 after this? Nope. Don't trust 'em. Glad I have the extended warranty so, if it fails again out of warranty, I'll either get it fixed or BestBuy will refund my original purchase price.

Was very impressed with the knowledge of the clerk. He showed the features of the cameras I was interested in and helped with which camera would be best for me. The easiness and features of the camera, Sony, was the one I purchased. Overall a great experience at Best Buy.

The camera is a semi-pro dig cam priced towards the higher end. So i feel like its better to put some more money and buy a sony mirrorless or a better model of this sort.

I love this camera for it's zoom capability. The pictures I took didn't look as sharp as it appeared on the viewfinder but I think it just needs some adjusting.

Just got back from an extended trip to Southeast Asia where this was the only camera I carried. Very happy with the results. Great pictures, easy to use and so small I could conveniently carry it everywhere. View finder is invaluable. Only complaint is long lag time for taking multiple shots.

I was looking for a small all around camera to fit in my pocket (does Not) and with a viewfinder to replace the Sony underwater. Cheap camera not worth the money for us, and photos are not that clear especially when shot with zoom.

I bought this in October 2015, and it never worked right. It would not turn on and off and was very difficult to get it to work at all. I missed taking pictures of my son getting his black belt, no pics of his graduation except on my phone, and could not take it on a trip to Mexico because I had to send it in to Geek Squad. They had it for a month and claimed to have fixed it, but now two weeks later, on the eve of our summer vacation, it can't read the photo card and still has trouble turning on. DO NOT BUY THIS. I am sad that I don't have sharp clear photos of these important events and now all I have is my phone to take on our family vacation. AVOID!!!! I am planning to return this. It is a real lemon.

This camera continues the great HX line with new features (electronic viewfinder, settings ring around the lens, slightly flexible flash, new shot menu) and similar image quality, but a couple of odd choices/missteps (harder to delete multiple images at once, loss of burst photo grouping, reduction in image size for vertical panoramas). Between those choices, and the features lost (slight reduction in megapixels, loss of hotshoe to make room for EVF), might be worth trying the HX50 as well to see which you prefer.
Also, keep in mind that any camera in this segment is giving up low light performance for having a long range and small size. It will struggle in fading light and be basically unusable in really low light without a flash.

Hi oldfashioned, we're sorry to hear that the camera didn't meet your expectations. You can adjust the Monitor brightness to see the subject clearer in bright daylight. The help guide is available at http://helpguide.sony.net/dsc/1510/v1/en/index.html, so you can learn more about what the camera can do. Thanks_Mitch
