    Pocket voice recorders must be convenient and easy to use. Sony has most of that covered in this unit, except for one major issue: If you wait more than ten minutes between recording voice notations, the unit shuts down and takes several seconds to power up when you turn it on. My unit, which I purchased yesterday, powered up immediately when it was brand new. Today it has only 25 short voice notations on it. It now takes 10 SECONDS to power up. I've had earlier Sony VRs and they didn't have this issue. They were just flat out READY to record at all times, unless I specifically powered the unit completely down. But anyone who makes multiple voice notations, like observations or quick notes on the fly, or under busy, hectic conditions is not going to be happy waiting for this unit to power up to leave a quick notation. Yes, you could record lectures or interviews or whatever long-form thing you like, and you'd be happy with this device. My case is entirely different. Almost all of my voice notations took less time to record than the unit now takes to power up. That's neither convenient nor easy to use. I will be returning my unit to Best Buy.
