Great speaker with good bass, mids,and highs. The unit sounds better when the top is opened into table mode. The tweeters are embedded near the corners of each table opening. They face downwards when closed, but they sound better when it's opened because the tweeters face upwards. A slight annoyance is when I open or close the right table flap, the music will pause for about a second or two, then resume playback. I never have this issue when opening or closing the left flap. I'm not sure if this is be design, or it's only occurring with my unit. I did not see any reference to this in the user manual. The speaker can be used plugged into a power outlet, or you can charge it and use the builtin rechargeable battery, getting up to about 13 hours of playback. If you have a tripod, the speaker as an opening under the speaker that will allow you to place it on a tripod. You can play audio using Bluetooth, USB, or FM Tuner. If the USB port is not being used to play music from a USB device, it can then be used to charge other electronics. The user manual is very thorough and easy to understand. Great speaker which I'm impressed with.

The Sony GTK-PG10 is a very nice portable/outdoor speaker system. This system is capable of AC and battery powered use (batteries are included) for up to 13 hours of time. The system includes multiple modes of operation – Bluetooth, FM Receiver, USB, Audio In, and Microphone mode. The sound output is solid in all modes. The system retails for $249.00 which might be a bit pricey despite the excellent features of the system, it would be awesome if priced at $199.00. Overall, the feature and capabilities warrant 5-stars but the price for me pulls it back a bit. The rest of this review will be done in 3 parts – features, usage impressions, and pros/cons. General Features: The features of this speaker system are excellent. This system consists of two tweeters (stereo) and a woofer (mono) rated at 7 watts per channel. The system does provide very loud sound when the volume is turned up. As stated, the system is capable of both AC power and battery power. The battery is rated at 13 hours of Bluetooth connected time; however, the manual does note that with the speakers turned up all the way the battery life will be reduced to approximately 5 hours. Physically the system weighs just under 15 pounds and is capable of being mounted on a tripod. The tweeter sections of the system fold for portability and when extended can project the sound out further for outdoor use. Also, when extended the system has 4 cup holders and a small table section that can support your “picnic” which can make these nice for picnicking and tailgating. Audio Features: The system’s modes of operation are Bluetooth, USB, Tuner (FM), Audio, and Microphone mode. In each of the modes, the sound is of excellent quality and volume. Each mode is useful. A couple of modes do however have their quirks. In USB mode the USB device must be formatted in FAT16 or FAT 32 for the system to read – this is less and less likely with the size of USB devices these days. The other mode with a quirk is the microphone mode, where a ¼” Stereo plug is required to connect the microphone to the system. This is also a less and less common item. One can certainly obtain an adapter to use the more common 3.5mm plugs. App Features: The system can connect to and be controlled from Android and iPhone devices using the Sony Music Center application and/or the Sony Fiestable application – which is oriented at the Karaoke/dance party possibilities with the system. With the Sony Music Center application, one can control each of the audio modes, stream music from your phone, control the music on a USB device, or turn the FM tuner. With FM mode it also allows for station presets to be used. Usage Impressions: The system is a very nice speaker system. The Bluetooth nature of the system makes is very flexible. Much of my testing was done via a Bluetooth enabled projector (also portable) that pairs very nicely with this system. Between the projector and the speaker system, one could have a nice tailgating setup. Pros: Sound, portability, operating modes, App control. Cons: Price, FAT16 or FAT32 only USB devices, ¼” Microphone jack.

This speaker has the nice Sony quality in its build and sound. It comes up short in volume especially when used in somewhat noisy environments.

On removing this unit from the box you immediately get the impression the Sony PG10 is a well-made and sturdy speaker. After playing with it for a few hours, you realize your first impression was correct. The speaker box itself is made of MDF and not plastic like most are these days. To me, using wood improves the sound quality and resonating abilities of the cabinet. The multitude of inputs is a nice addition (note, there is no 3.5 mm input), and the rechargeable battery comes in handy when using this speaker away from a ready source of power. I have used the USB to charge my phone while playing music over Bluetooth which was an added bonus. (I have no desire to use the PA/karaoke features so those are non-starters with me personally, as is the tripod mount.) You will definitely want to download the Music Center app to unlock the full potential of this machine as many of the settings and adjustments aren't available using the hard controls on the front of the unit. I already had the app for other Sony speakers I own, and adding the PG10 was a snap. The first thing I did after setting it up in the app was get rid of the EQ preset Sony ships the PG10 with. I found the sound quality was less than stellar using the stock settings, but after a quick tweak using the app, the sound quality came up to what I expect from Sony. Volume levels are impressive and there is only very mild distortion at maximum volumes. Battery life will obviously suffer if you push it that hard, but at reasonable levels you could easily use the PG10 for an extended party. Now for a couple of gripes that keep me from giving the PG10 a full 5 stars. When you first power up the unit, the demo mode is on by default and there is no clear indication of how to shut it off. I found that extremely irritating and spent several minutes looking through the spartan users manual to figure out how to shut it off. (I'll save you some time, press and hold the "mic echo" button for 3 seconds or more.) Although marketed as an "outdoor" and "portable" speaker, I'm not sure I totally agree with either of those statements. MDF, being a pressed wood product, likely won't take too well to moisture. While the sound stage and throw is certainly strong enough to use outside, I'd be fearful of getting it too close to the pool, hot tub, or clumsy children or friends. The shallow handles and relatively heavy cabinet (14+ lbs.) require two hands to move this thing around, which to me isn't ideal for a party on-the-go.The fold-out "wings" which spread the sound and make the top into a table is a neat feature. I did notice the cupholders aren't sufficiently large to hold larger based beverage containers and higher-end stainless steel can coozies. Finally, and this is probably my biggest beef with this speaker, Sony chose not to include Party Chain functionality in the PG10. Really?!? I have several other Sony speakers that I use this function with and love it. Why Sony left it out of this unit is a complete mystery.

Radio, Karaoke machine minus the word display, voice command speaker, DJ speaker with mic plugged in, small table for a couple of drinks, excellent speaker sound for your playlists. You can really get creative with this. You can turn it to highest volume and have hardly any distortion. With the top closed the tweeters are only heard through the front of the speaker, and with the “wings” opened it disperses the music up and out so that you can have a more 360 degree sound. Great that this speaker has an AM/FM radio. If you ever lose power, you can still listen to the radio! Battery life is about 13 hours at a regular volume and about 9 if you want to blast it. You can also charge your phone off of this, but it will use up some of the battery life. If you like karaoke, you will like this also. It has a ¼ inch mic jack, so you can just plug in that microphone and sing your heart out to your favorite tunes. This has a pole mount at the bottom of the speaker so you can place it on a speaker stand. With the top of this speaker opened (there are latches on the back side to release the locked “wings”) each side has a cup holder. It says that the top is splash proof, but I would still be careful as the speaker itself is not waterproof. I am leaving the DO NOT SIT ON TOP sticker on the folded out “wings” because it looks like a fairly comfortable place to sit if there are no chairs around. It does not hold a lot of weight and the stickers are on there for a reason. It is lighter than it looks. It looks like it would be fairly heavy, but it is not. There is a LCD display on the front panel and also buttons with all the regular functions like, volume, skip track, play/pause, tuner for the radio and pairing the Bluetooth. Because of the exceptional sound with this speaker, the radio sounds way better than any radio I have listened to before. I really like that you can just use it as a regular portable radio and if you lose electricity you still have contact with the outside world to know what is going on in your area. Download the Sony Music Center app with tons of different fun things to do. You will also want to download the Fiestable app. Karaoke makes this even more fun than your average speaker. There is even a Karaoke equalizer for the mic. There are voice commands you can use through the Fiestable app such as mic levels up and down. You can use motion control by moving your phone side to side to control the volume up or down. Being a DJ at your party can be a lot of fun with this. Plug in your mic to the speaker and say “Let’s Party” and it will give you a drum roll to add a little humor. I absolutely LOVE this speaker because it is soooo much more than just a speaker and worth every penny. Once you tweak the sound to your taste it is exceptional. You have an Extra Bass button that really brings in the bass. I highly recommend this Party-Animal speaker.

Definitely love this radio. Could be louder for louder work environments but works great for home use in the gym.

The battery life was great. Was able to charge my phone when it went low. ( I was using it to stream music) I was the backup dj.

This speaker is gonna be great for parties and bbq's this summer! Tested it out with bluetooth from my iPhone and FM stations via the single-rabbit-ear antenna. Sounds great and LOUD! Really cool that you can flip the top open for a little table that includes 4 beer (or any drink) holders. Flipping the top open also changes the sound projection of 2 tweeters which I prefer the sound a bit more when open. So far I think the Sony apps for the iPhone are only so-so. But I mainly just play music through iTunes via the Bluetooth connection. Fun to play around with mode buttons as well to change the song vocals ranging from "Chipmunks" to "Barry White". :) Battery latest about 11 hours for me on first pass. Probably varies with the volume level. Has additional jacks for mic input (karaoke time!) and USB which will also charge your iPhone if you need a little juice. I can see this being a really popular speaker this spring and summer. I'd definitely recommend it!
