Personally I think this is one of the best sound bars for the money. You can use your remote to customize the sound for movies, news music, sports and so on. It works great for my father’s hearing problems and for my favorite movies and channels.

A "Sound" Sound System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an older Sony Soundbar when LCD TV’s first came out and loved the sound it produced for the price point. And the old one did not have a separate subwoofer. Last year I was able to upgrade to another with a subwoofer and the set up was listed for about $200 more MSRP than the Sony HT-G700. Let’s see if it compares… Because I had my prior set up pretty much the way I like it, I installed the subwoofer at the same place as my existing one. Then replaced the soundbar with the Sony and plugged into the HDMI-arc ports. As expected, the process was pretty seamless as I powered the system on and automatically paired the subwoofer with the soundbar. I was interested in experiencing the immersive AE (Audio Enhancement) to see if that brought anything to the table. However in my usage in a weeks time viewing various movies and television shows to Anime, I could tell the sounds were channeling at different points of the room, but it was really a cute effect. Now how does it sound overall? Being my prior setup was about 330 watts overall power with the Sony’s 400 watt overall power, I didn’t expect the Sony to blow away my older unit but I was expecting similar sounds. The voices were clear and the separate sounds were clear. However, when putting them all together with the subwoofer, the overall sound was not as I had hoped for and expected. Not to say it’s bad, but to me the sounds overall were kind of cold and tinny at times. I adjusted the bass to see if I could warm up the tones. It worked for the most part, but it just wasn’t what I was expecting. The bass does rattle the furniture, but it doesn’t sound as warm as I want it. In viewing a few movies, I attempted to use the immersive AE through the entire movie and it does it’s job well. The bass was there, the voices were clear and the sound dialogs matched the screen there is no lag to speak of. Then I watched a Play for 2 hours and again, the sound was on par, and sounded good. Did it fill out the wide room with sound? Yes for the most part, it is super loud. The volume level goes from 0 to over 50 and that is odd to me where a lot of my devices cap out at 40. With music, I experienced the similar issue. It can be loud for sure, but the overall warmth of the music fell short to me. I am not an audiofile, but I like a certain bass to treble ratio and adjusted the system here didn’t yield the same results for me. Playing music via bluetooth. After the usual bluetooth pairing it paired as it should. I played various tracks from contemporary to classic rock and pop. All sounded nice and loud as I expected. The connection to bluetooth was quick. However there is no integration with Spotify if you use that as your music player. I had to connect through bluetooth first then play Spotify, with other devices, the device shows up under the Spotify menu and all you need to do is hit the unit to connect. It’s little things that makes us happy. Something a little more consistant would be nice I guess but I digress. For the price, it’s a great deal. The sound is there but the rich tones falls short for me. I really wanted to like the unit and hoped that I would replace my older system with this, but I cannot. It looks great, and very compact. I paired the Sony soundbar with a 65 inch TV and it matched the largeness of the sound. Overall would I recommend it? Yes for the budget minded. Like I stated, the unit does what it states and will work with TV’s in a smaller room with a max size of a TV of 50 or 55 inches. What do I love? The simple plug and play installation. The look is classic. It’s super compact. And love the options you can have with the different soundstage you can make for yourself. What would I change? Maybe the amount of soundstages to me didn’t work out to what I wanted out of the Sony. The sound I was able to use and listen to was good, but not as rich as my older setup with a lower wattage. Like I said, I am no audiofile, but I do like what I hear, this just fell short a tad. Maybe the subwoofer needed to be bigger? Bottom line I needed a richer tone overall, but that is just me. Others may be ok with the set up. I need a little more “oomf” in my sound system.

Packs a punch for smaller spaces!

Our living room is about 15'x15'. We have to turn the volume up fairly high (35-45) to hear theater quality booms and surrounding sounds. But its great when watching big action movies with explosions, or loud music. I recommend it if you're not going for large multiple piece systems at a budget.

Little annoying that anyone else's soundbar will not work with a Sony TV except with an optical cord. However, the soundbar is as good as any other soundbar I've ever owned and a lot less problematic than some.
