Impressive Simulated Surround but Not Worth the $$
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this soundbar to use with the Sony X950H TV I recently purchased and as much as I wanted to like this soundbar, I was not impressed. The build quality of this sounbar is excellent with metal speaker grills on both the soundbar itself as well as the subwoofer. As for the remote, it is built well and offers a lot of buttons to customize the sound settings. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of customization that is available on this soundbar. Unfortunately, I ended up returning this soundbar because while the simulated surround sounded pretty good, I found myself constantly adjusting the volume because the dialog was substantially muted compared to all the other sounds. No matter what setting I chose I would have to turn the volume up to hear the voices but then turn it down during the action scenes. Secondly the bass was somewhat lacking even at it's highest setting and left a lot to be desired. It's worth noting I did upgrade the sounder's firmware using the USB port in effort to improve the sound output with no avail. For the price I expected much more out of this soundbar. In the end, I ended up returning this sounbar for LG's SN8YG.

The G700 has a variety of sound modes to help enhance your viewing experience. We recommend using the Cinema mode for your TV content. If your subwoofer isn’t adjacent to a wall in the corner, we recommend placing the subwoofer there to improve your bass performance. Please keep in mind that if the input sources contain very little bass sound components (i.e., a TV broadcast), the sound from the subwoofer may be difficult to hear. We took note of your feedback as it will help improve our product. We hope that you consider Sony again for your future purchases. -Carl

The overall volume may also vary depending on the source content. Make sure to try multiple sources. Check if night mode is disabled. Night mode function outputs the sound at low volume with minimum loss of fidelity and clarity of dialogue. Press the NIGHT button on the supplied remote to set the function on or off.

Thanks for taking the time to review your experience with your HT-G700. While we're glad you like its impressive performance, it's unfortunate to know you've been running into difficulty with the BRAVIA Sync function on your soundbar and new Bravia TV. When BRAVIA Sync is set up, you will be able to turn off a connected device with the TV or set a device connected via HDMI cable to be operated with the TV’s remote control. Basic commands supported include: Power On/Off (Device auto power off and TV auto power on), Volume control, Device menu control, Basic playback functions.
Please see page 31 of the instruction manual below for more information on using the Control for HDMI Function.

Very Poor on Mounting with HDMI Cords in the back of the sound bar, you cannot get a flush connection with the mounting screws and the bard ends up pointing downward, I had to engineer my own solution so I didn't see cords and it was flush against the wall. So much focus on Audio and dropped the ball on Mechanical

It creates a far wider front soundstage than you’d think possible, and overhead effects are very nice. The only knock I have on this sound bar is that I wish there were more HDMI inputs on the bar itself. My TV is a year old and doesn’t support EARC, so I have to pick between HD audio from my 4K blu-ray player, Apple TV, and soon to be PS5. That being said this unit having even 1 HDMI in is a win because units like the new Arc bar do not have any, so a user like me with an older TV would not be able to take advantage of HD sound, as I understand it.
