Its good but the real big sound doesn't kick in until the volume is turned way up. Should have more bass boost at lower volumes.

Sound does amplify upwards making sure you can hear every sound around you. Dolby Atmos is a shining star here. There is a little bit to unpack here but I'll try to get through everything that I really like and what made me rethink this soundbar. This model is the Sony HT-G700 and I've been pleased with it so far with some features I feel that's missing for a soundbar of this price. Unpacking the soundbar was easy, HDMI and power cables come with the soundbar and sub. The soundbar itself is light enough to hold for easier installation. The design of the HT-G700 leaves a lot left to be desired but it's a soundbar that has a nice clean look for elegance to the room. No freakish design here but nothing that stands out either. Instructions are easy to set up with eARC/ARC attached, Everything is pretty straight forward. I had everything ready to go within mins. On the back of the soundbar, there is HDMI in / HDMI out / Optical in. First thing first; The soundbar and sub sound just beautiful when watching atmos content. I've never been so delighted by rich sound and bass from a speaker before. This thing actually to me performs just as good if not better as a "$1,400" 5.1 soundbars out there. Sony giving really good quality sound at a much lower cost and that's always a win to me. Bass shakes the room and giving my living room a theater-like experience with no issues with that. Bass is just the cream of the crop and has a long wireless distance to the soundbar. LED lights on the soundbar are bright enough for you to see if you sit far away from the TV and also could be turned off. You can clearly see where the volume is. I also, appreciate the touch buttons on the soundbar itself and honestly, a feature you won't care about until its gone...No touch buttons on the Soundtouch 300 (first model) was a total pain. The remote to the HT-G700 have just what you need to access the soundbar features including the "immersive mode" and a voice mode that amps the sound of voices from movies. there are other modes such as Auto Sound, Standard Surround, Cinema, Music, Night, and Voice modes. But let's talk about two of these features I'm sure you would love to know about. The immersive mode is where the sound vertically goes upward while the main speakers fire at you. There are no speakers that pop up like Dolby Atmos speakers of yesteryear, which in some ways disappointing but understandable. Still, the sound work just fine shooting around you where you are. This also turns stereo into and upscale it to 7.1 sound. Voice amplify mode shoot up the sound of the voices of people on movies or TV shows. This is the mode I have the most trouble with so far. Sometimes it works perfectly when I'm watching things and other times...the sound is unbalanced with different content I turn to where voice is important such as the news. The volume seems to be going up and down or "Autotuning" something even with the "Auto sound" set to off. The good news here is you can turn it off and for whatever reason sounds better when to use an HDMI source other than a Comcast cable box. Whatever strange normality with the "voice" amplifying I'll never know because... There is no app to update this soundbar which is a huge letdown, It doesn't even connect to Sony's own Music Center app which is a HUGE missed opportunity (and a missed opportunity for connecting Sony's own party mode speakers.) This could be a plus to some who don't want internet activity through a soundbar and I understand that but with so many companies coming out with great soundbars they also have an app that lets you control greater features. Maybe that's just how voice mode works but the other modes for me were just fine with the content that it was tailored for. Bluetooth sound is awesome from a phone, tablet, or PC on this speaker! Overall with the price and performance, Sony gave to this soundbar exceeds my expectations. Goes miles above some companies already at a higher price point. It sounds amazing with clean bass and sound but features are lacking here that I wish Sony spent time on. In the end, Playing God of War for PlayStation 4 on these speakers gave so much weight to each strike and the strong bass of the hits won me over with the HT-G700. Atmos content was mindblowing so Sony I would say made a fantastic product. If you looking to jump into Atmos sound this is a good first start.
