One serious flaw
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to love the Sony HT G700 Soundbar. Unfortunately, one major design feature makes me dislike it. I’ll give you the big flaw 1st, then tell you what they did right with the soundbar. Whenever you change the volume, there is a second of dead silence. It’s really irritating. The soundbar should change to the new volume right away. There is no reason to have to mute the sound as you are changing volume. It makes it difficult to know just how far up or down to adjust the volume if you have to wait for a second after every single adjustment. My wife wants the soundbar disconnected just because of this. If that doesn’t bother you, here are some of the positives. The soundbar features Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. It has a much nicer sound than my television does. It has 400 watts of total power. You can listen to it softly and you can blast it real loud if you want. It's crisp clear audio regardless. The louder you get, the more you notice the subwoofer with its deep bass. Because the subwoofer is wireless, you can place it anywhere without wires (except for the power cord). 12-step subwoofer adjustment allows you to adjust the bass levels to your liking. The unit has a dedicated center channel for clear vocals and a “voice” button on the remote to make the voice stand out from the rest of the audio. It can be hooked up to the eARC HDMI port found on many modern TVs, making it a breeze to set up with your TV and Bluray player. They also have Immersive Audio Enhancement which is supposed to upscale your regular stereo to simulate 7.1.2 audio. While it is not true surround, there is a noticeable difference when you activate this mode. You can connect to it from a compatible Sony TV via Bluetooth, or use the Bluetooth to attach your favorite iPod or MP3 player. Overall, the soundbar provides great sound in a stylish package. It has a ton of features, but the volume control issue is just too much of a drawback for me to give this a higher rating.

The actual sound bar would have been enough. I think price that we paid was way to much. I think had I done more research I could have found just the sound bar that does the same job for alot less money.

If the system does not work properly, the system may be in demo mode. To cancel demo mode, reset the system. Press and hold (power) and – (volume) on the bar speaker for more than 5 seconds. Refer to page 45 of the manuals below for more information.

Barely acceptable

Dialogue is hard to hear. The different modes don’t seem to do much. I got a good Black Friday price. For that price it is ok. Full price no way.

For the dialogue, setting the Voice function to On will make dialogues easily heard by enhancing dialogue range on the HTG700 Soundbar. This can be enabled or disabled by pressing the Voice button on the Sony Remote.
The HTG700 has a variety of sound modes to help enhance your listening and viewing experience.
Standard Mode - This will allow you to hear the sound of a TV program clearly.
Cinema - This mode is suitable for watching movies. You feel immersed by the sound that travels behind you and surrounds your entire body
Music - Vividness, and glossiness of the sound are expressed in detail. This mode is suitable for enjoying music in a way that moves you
You can also use AUTO SOUND mode which will change the Sound Mode from Standard, Cinema, and Music based on the content played.

The modes are adequate, but do not produce best performance for music, voice, and effects. Setting up was awkward, and the manual instructions are not very easy to understand.
