The sound mode function is disabled when the [AUDIO] - [EFFECT] setting is set to a setting other than [SOUND MODE ON]. You may check this link for more information. (Refer to page 35):

Just to give you an overview, volume levels changes depending on the content you are viewing. Commercials and action scenes have audio levels that are boosted relative to scenes focused on dialogue or scenery. The soundbar can be adjusted to help create a better listening experience via the sound modes on the remote and using the Voice button to enhance vocal dialogue. It crackled and cut out often. Brought it back to receive another one. Let’s hope this works! I will be very disappointed if it doesn’t work.

This can happen if the eARC settings of your BRAVIA™ TV or soundbar have been changed from their default settings. If desired, disable the TV or soundbar eARC settings to improve the delay. Refer to your device for specific settings details.

NOTE: The default setting is Off.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This will be easiest to use if your TV has an HDMI port with ARC (Audio Return Channel). My large but older television lacks this feature, so I have two choices: TOSlink or HDMI interception. TOSLink uses a fiber optics cable (not included) that connects to the glowing red port in the back of your television. This works, but if your TV does not support Dolby surround, then the sound bar won't see it. You will be stuck to standard stereo (as in my case). A better choice is to connect the HDMI source to the HDMI in on the bar, and then connect HDMI out to the TV. This should work for any setup, as well as give the best results. The only problem that I had is that my LG TV remote can also control my LG BluRay player through the HDMI connection. Inserting the sound bar into the mix made this control sometimes work, sometimes not. But a good universal remote can fix this problem. Once connected, it sounds GREAT. There is a voice-enhancing mode that will help clarify dialogue, and the sub woofer provides a nice punch to music and sound effects. Then there is also the Bluetooth connection. The manual claims that it will pair perfectly with a compatible Sony TV (which I don't have). But it also works great with phones, and will easily fill any room with music.

Highly disappointing for a Sony sound bar. We have the Sony HT-NT5 and their flagship HT-ST5000 sound bars. Both are great and thought I could not go wrong with the G700. I exchanged it for the HT-ZF9 and it is much much better. Good sound and good build quality. This is what I expected with the G700 but did not get that. Also the HT-Z9F is only $100 more right now then the G700. Totally worth the minor difference.
