1st time ever, Sony Disappointed me
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems to lack quality of sound I had in my older Sony Sound Bar System. Background noise kills voice like watching a car auction and noise from background kills announcers voice. Same for football games. I actually turn it off during these events an go back to my internal Sony TV speakers. I should have never spent the $600 on it. A bust!

I expected it to sound better than it did
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Sony bar to be an upgrade over a stand-alone Sonos Beam for a 18x18 living room. Boy, what a letdown! In the middle of a movie on HBO I switched back to the Beam and there is an undeniable richer sound with the Beam even without a sub. I really expected the Sony bar to sound better. The Sony sub even set at 12 which is max was inferior to the sound from the Beam. I really wanted the Sony to be better.

Disappointing sound, returning
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have the model this is replacing, the XT-9000F in one room, so I thought this would be a no brainer. I was very disappointed in the sound quality. To me and my family, it all sounds muddled with virtually no high end, like a medium quality bluetooth speaker.
No, I would not recommend this to a friendBrand response from SonyListens
Posted .Hi DavidG123, thank you for purchasing the HT-G700. We apologize that it did not meet your expectations. Before you decide to return it, we’d like you to try adjusting the sound settings to see if it will improve your listening experience. Aside from the various sound modes and subwoofer gain adjustments, please ensure the G700 is mounted closer to your ear level to allow the detail of your content to be heard. If the soundbar cannot be mounted to your ear level, try seeing if you can angle the soundbar to fire upwards towards your ears. You may find that you will hear more detail. If your G700 is on an entertainment stand, placing the soundbar closer to the edge of the surface that it is mounted on will also allow you to have a better experience as well.

Didn't like the sound and the boom
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this sound bar bc we were told the center speaker can be adjusted to quiet down background noise for these old ears of ours. But that didn't seem to be the case. Maybe we just couldn't get the settings right. Bc the tv we purchased this with sounded better than this did, we returned this.

Very Disappointing for the price.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high hopes for this, as I was upgrading from an older sony soundbar that is about 5yrs old now. To cut to the point, this unit felt like a downgrade. The dialogue on Dolby Digital is very low, not many adjustments. No Wifi, or Ethernet. It only sounded decent when the volume is jacked up alot more than you really should have it at. This soundbar was $300 more that what I paid for my old one. Honestly it had the performance of a $300 system not $600. I ended up returning it and getting a different brand that seems to work great so far. Seems Sony quality and value have dropped alot lately.

I hope you consider our Sony products in the future. Thank you for sharing your feedback.

Overall awful
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to get a new Sony soundbar to add to an older model I have from them. It took me forever to get any sound to play even tho it was all hooked up as the manual said and no display on the tv. The Bluetooth connection was wonky. I took it back and stuck with my older model

Posted .Hi Hotdoggn, we're sorry to hear that you had returned your SONY unit. The soundbar does not have an onscreen menu, but rather the OLED display on the front is for your user interface. If you are connected via HDMI from the soundbar's ARC port to your TV's ARC port, you should get audio on the "TV" input.
As for Bluetooth connections, you can place the G700 into pairing mode by pressing and holding the BT button on the top of the soundbar. The "Pairing" prompt should appear on the soundbar's display. Search for the soundbar via your device and pair them. The G700 has Bluetooth 5.0 so its range is improved, but being closer to the bar will help ensure success in pairing.
We hope you can give us another chance. Sony takes into consideration all feedback to improve the performance and quality of our products and services. We're always looking to make Sony better. ~Earl

Very good, not great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The build quality of the bar is first class and the sub-woofer is decent. I liked the remote which lets you switch directly to various modes … Standard, Cinema, Music, Voice, Night, Immersive, and Auto. It automatically found the wireless sub and connected, and was easy to pair with a phone or other Bluetooth device. You’ll want to use an ARC enabled HDMI connection to your TV for best results. Since I have a Sony TV and 4K player, it was flawless in using Bravia sync for HDMI control of all devices. Just turn on the DVD player, and the TV and soundbar come on ready to play. The G700 does have eARC capability which is the new and improved system that allows non-compressed Dolby and DTS audio to be sent from the TV to the bar over HDMI. As far as sound, and that’s what it’s all about, my results were varied. When playing a 4K Blueray with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, it was fairly impressive and begs you to push the sound level up. The electronic magic worked, and those three speakers in the bar made for an “immersive” sound. Not quite like having discrete rear and up-firing speakers, but it was impressive and closer than you might expect to multiple speakers. However, with streaming sources, it was a mixed bag. Sometimes there was a lack of spatial definition which muddled the sound and made dialog hard to hear. Sometimes the center channel seemed harsh and overdriven, and often there was no discernable rear channel sound. I did find that it generally sounded better if you keep the “immersive” feature enabled. To be fair, TV sound and streamed network shows often don’t have the best soundtracks. It did make me wish the menu system offered a way to adjust balance and equalization. The sound level is separately adjustable for the sub-woofer, but I still wanted a bit more punch. Perhaps I expected too much from a 3.1 system using electronic wizardry to simulate up to 7.2 Dolby Atmos sound. The sound from this system just isn’t a true Atmos experience. I found the G700 to be very good but not great. It offers a way to get some three-dimensional experience with a very compact system and at a price less than more complicated, multiple speaker systems. If you’re coming from listening through TV speakers or an older soundbar, it will blow you away.
