Decent sound bar

Does feels like sound is enveloping you but only at volume set to 55+. Gave only 4 stars instead of 5 because while watching movies, the volume of voice gets supressed by the background music/noise in the scene making it hard to understand dialogue. This can be easily fixed by increasing volume to 65+. Other than that everything is great.

Posted .Hi Neil, Great! Glad to hear that you are happy with the sound quality of your HTG700! Setting the Voice function to On will make dialogues easily heard by enhancing dialogue range on the HTG700 Soundbar. This can be enabled or disabled by pressing the Voice button on the Sony Remote.

Underwhelming for the price

I bought this, thinking it was a decent mid-tier option. Overall, the soundbar+sub combo is okay, but far from great. The vocals are clear and accurate, but the speakers in the soundbar must be too small, as the subwoofer is EXTREMELY easy to localize, so I think the crossover Sony has is too high. No matter how low I put the subwoofer volume, when watching content, you can easily tell in the room where the sub is placed, which should never happen. Also, to call this soundbar a Dolby Atmos soundbar is a joke, This is normal soundbar - when watching all the demos I use for my 9.1 system in my theater, I cannot hear a single "overhead" effect...even demos specifically designed to show off Dolby Atmos. Overall, I'll keep the soundbar, as the TV speakers are garbage, but this is likely WELL OVERPRICED, given the subwoofer is garbage and it definitely doesn't have DOLBY ATMOS capability that is worth a lick.

We are sorry to hear that the HTG700 did not meet your expectations when it comes to the sound quality and bass. Please try to select different Sound Mode options which are pre-programmed sound effects that are tailored to different kinds of sound sources.
Standard Mode - This will allow you to hear the sound of a TV program clearly.
Cinema - This mode is suitable for watching movies. You feel immersed by the sound that travels behind you and surrounds your entire body
Music - Vividness, and glossiness of the sound are expressed in detail. This mode is suitable for enjoying music in a way that moves you
You can also use AUTO SOUND mode which will change the Sound Mode from Standard, Cinema, and Music based on the content played.

Good Soundbar - Misleading Features

And while it IS significantly better than the TV’s speakers and markets many features, it’s best to keep expectations in check. It does its best to mimic a surround sound feel and YES, Dolby Atmos content does work on it, but you’re really only going to experience the simulated experience when you’re closer in range, and that’s a stretch in itself because while it does have a good range of sound it will NOT beat any 5.1.2 or 7.1.2 true surround/Atmos system. However, for what it is and what it’s worth, it’s still great for a smaller room and it makes a great system until I’m ready to upgrade to a true surround system. If you’re buying it for Dolby Atmos though, it won’t beat other Dolby Atmos offerings without the upward firing speakers you may find in other Atmos sound bars, but it’ll still register/output the content the best it can with vertical range, just might not be as convincing as you’d find in true Atmos systems, but satisfying enough to make the Atmos label. (DISCLAIMER - You WILL run into bugs when pairing to Sony TV’s wirelessly, however with a USB drive you CAN give it a system update from Sony’s website, so it’s really nice to have the ability to update when needed, but even better would be to just have everything worked as advertised out of package.) This is a good middle ground between TV Speakers and a full sound system on a budget in a small space. But if you’re wanting higher-end audio sound, or looking for TRUE Atmos quality feel and senses, I’d recommend exploring all available options to find out what works for you.

You really get a good bang for your buck with this system and I'm glad I didn't get the more expensive one that was demonstrated. The sound is clear and the Subwoofer is powerful and also very clear. We don't blast the sound system but even on low volume, I find myself hearing the sounds coming out of the woofer and thinking it is either thunder or someone at the front door. It's amazing how clear the sound is and how I'm still not use to this superb quality. I'm so glad I got it!

Not the best, but better than 2.1

Better than a 2.1; the center channel makes audio very clear and the immersive AI feature fills a room with very bassy sound. The subwoofer is stronger than my 7.1 setup in the living room.

Good Bang for the buck

The wireless sub works well since I was placing it in the back of the room instead of the front so I don't have any long wires. The HDMI cable hooked up to my TV and they communicate the volume control so that I don't have to use two controllers to change the volume, using my TV remove will automatically change the soundbar volume, they are synced. As long as the quality of sound is good coming from the TV(high quality output), the sound quality that comes out is great, not too much adjustments but gets the job done. For the price point and getting it on sale, I have no complaints.

We bought this to pair with our x950 and the pair are a great match. Does it compare to a full 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos HT setup? No, but that's not what its designed to do. It fills its role very well for the price.
