Great with Good Internet.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works well, easy to use throughout house and places with good Internet. But if you have a slower plan or a lot of items on your wifi it suffers. Comfortable to use and great picture (when you have good connection).

Sony PlayStation Portal — Six Months Later
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal delivers exactly what it promises: a premium way to stream PS5 games around the house. The large, vibrant display looks fantastic, and the controls feel just like the DualSense—no compromises there. Build quality is excellent, and it’s obvious Sony designed this as a top-tier accessory. It doesn’t run games on its own. For me, that’s fine—95% of the time I’m gaming at home anyway. I have fiber internet and just the standard AT&T router, and I’m able to play anywhere in my house with little to no issues. The experience is smooth most of the time, though you will notice some lag. Competitive shooters and battle royales don’t really work here, but single-player titles and slower-paced games feel great. Even Destiny 2 is playable, though not ideal. The value is what makes the Portal stand out. It’s far cheaper than a handheld PC or gaming console, and for most of what I like to play, it works really well. As a busy parent, it’s given me more chances to actually enjoy my PS5 library without fighting over the TV. The PlayStation Portal isn’t for every situation, but if you understand its limits and have solid internet, it’s an excellent way to extend your console.

A Sleek and Convenient way to enjoy your PS5!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have access to a fast, reliable internet connection, then the PlayStation Portal will work awesome for you. I love the Midnight Black finish and the ability to not hog the main tv at night, but still enjoy my Playstation. I have been quite impressed and the battery life is better than i expected.

Great portable PS5 at home
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to connect to our PS5 and works exactly as intended. I don’t mind that we can’t take it out of the house because it’s meant to be used when our toddler wants to watch something else on the TV. Screen quality is good, no latency issues with the controls and the battery actually goes on for a while. Would definitely recommend.

My PlayStation in My Hands!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Sony Portable Remote Player, and I must say, it has exceeded all my expectations. Within minutes, I was able to connect the Portable Remote Player to my PlayStation console, and the seamless integration was impressive. The device's sleek design and lightweight build make it perfect for on-the-go gaming, allowing me to enjoy my favorite games anywhere and anytime. The performance of the Sony Portable Remote Player is outstanding. The high-resolution screen delivers crisp and vibrant visuals, making every game look stunning. The controls are responsive and intuitive, providing a console-like experience in a portable format. Whether I'm playing fast-paced action games or immersive RPGs, the Remote Player handles everything flawlessly. One of the standout features is the remote play functionality. This allows me to access my PlayStation console and play games remotely, even when I'm away from home. It's incredibly convenient and has transformed the way I game. I can now enjoy my PlayStation library without being tied to my living room. Battery life is another area where the Sony Portable Remote Player shines. The device offers hours of uninterrupted gameplay, and the quick charging capabilities ensure that I'm never without my gaming fix for long. Its okay
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't get me wrong portability is there. But in terms of graphics the quality does take a dive and it's pretty noticeable. Of course I'm not expecting the same quality you would get from a 4k or higher standard TV but you just can't unsee it. Another thing to keep in mind this is useless without a PS5 nearby. Don't expect to play this for cloud gaming because it doesn't have that capability. Unless it is added in the future. But the build quality is great, lightweight and obviously portable. If you want to play on the go then this is not it. Get a steam deck, ROG, MSI or Lenovo handheld for that.

The Real review
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is basically a glorified PS5 sidekick, a sleek 8” screen slapped between two DualSense halves. It streams games from your PS5 over Wi-Fi like a loyal digital butler, complete with haptics and adaptive triggers. Battery life? Solid. Setup? Stupidly easy. But don’t expect miracles: no Bluetooth (because reasons), no cloud gaming (yet), and forget about Netflix or anything fun outside gaming. It’s Wi-Fi 5 only—like it time-traveled from 2018—and needs your PS5 like a clingy ex. Still, it sold nearly 2 million units because, let’s face it, gaming in bed is adult responsibilities. If you’ve ever wished you could play God of War while pretending to listen to your partner talk about their day, this is your moment.

Excellent product
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Far superior experience than backbone which has vastly inferior controller functionality and whose screen is only as large your phone. Portal has a nice large screen, excellent size, ps style controls with smooth controller integration across both sides of the screen, and good battery life. Does require wifi to work although it need not be on the same network. In essence, think of this as the portable version of your Playstation, giving your ps5 similar functionality as a switch/2.

Perfect On-the-Go Companion for PlayStation Fans
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're a PlayStation enthusiast looking for a way to keep the game going even when you're away from your console, the PlayStation Portal is an absolute must-have. It's seriously fun to use, bringing your PS5 games to life wherever you are with a crisp screen that hits the sweet spot—not too big, not too small, just perfect for handheld gaming. Battery life is impressive too—it holds a charge for hours, which means you can dive deep into your favorite games without worrying about constantly plugging in. And with the addition of cloud play, it’s become an even better value. Whether you’re lounging in bed, hanging out in another room, or on the move with solid Wi-Fi, this thing just works. If you’re already in the PlayStation ecosystem and want a seamless way to enjoy your games outside of the living room, the PlayStation Portal is a no-brainer. It’s easily one of the most fun and practical accessories Sony has released in a while. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this when I bought it but after a few weeks with it I'm glad that I did.

Play on when away!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fits well in my hands, lightweight, good grip, very nice display and graphics, same size of a PS4 controller just cut in half. Add a skin for greater grip and control. Plays really well at home on the internal wifi, plays well when away on a hotel wifi, just don't try to use a phone hot spot unless you don't mind lags in the video and a *massive* drain on your data plan. I tested on my phone with a 10GB data sharing plan and in 10 minutes had half a gig of data used, so the math means 200 minutes, which is about one night's worth of play. Really good value compared to other portable platforms, charges quickly and holds the charge well. Whatever you have on your home console is what you're able to play, even digitally downloaded games.

Love it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally bought this because I have some games I like to play handheld, as they are easier to see. I love Stardew Valley, but I always feel like I'm squinting at the TV, and this makes it more enjoyable. I was a little worried about hand pain, as I do have hand and wrist issues, but it's surprisingly comfortable to hold and not too heavy. So I have no problem playing for hours at a time. You do need to have your PS5 on in order to use remote play, but they do offer an option of cloud gaming with one of the higher PS Plus subscriptions, so you technically wouldn't even need a PS5 at all if you decided to go for that option. Battery life could be improved, IMO. You get maybe 5 or 6 hours of play on one charge, which could be annoying if you're travelling. Overall, though, it's great.

Honest Opinion on the PS Portal
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is not another console like the old PSP or PS Vita. This device is a PS Remote Play Controller with a screen. The app you download on your phone, the PS Remote Play app, to use your phone as a controller, this is the workaround. With that being said, the quality of the device feels so incredibly nice and touch screen can look so very sharp. I use the word “can” because this device’s screen quality is very reliant on your wifi and/or your hotspots. You also must be on the same connection as your primary console in order for this to be used as your controller. You cannot play at Location B with X Wifi connection, while your console is at Location A with Z Wifi Connection. Once connected, your PS5 will turn on, along with your monitor or tv (if your setup is configured that way). You will be able to see your picture on the PS Portal’s screen, and the screen your main console is connected to. Again, the PS Portal is not another console. Its a Sony made backbone controller. Furthermore, and to reiterate, the device feels so nice in the hands. Now, it may be a bit awkward to grasp, but just like any new or different controller, you will adjust to it just fine. Its a small and surprisingly heavy device. The weight isnt an issue, just surely more than youd expect. PS5 adaptive triggers remain and buttons feel very well made. No stickiness or stick drift has been seen or noticed. The Sound Quality is also quite nice, and the volume button above the screen itself is out of way, easy to spot, and easy to reach. Of course, directional sounds may be harder to notice, so I highly recommend to get this device if you plan to stay at home and want to play Single Player games. Multiplayer games are possible, but if youre competitive, it just may not be the best option. There is a way to connect your headphones to it, so even if you are competitive and desire that directional sound, you wont be at a total loss. Overall, I have been happy with my PS Portal. I do not regret my purchase. The price range may be offputting, however the device itself is a strong and sturdy one. Respectfully, you are not missing out on much if you do not own it, but it is nice and convenient to have if you want to play in one spot but your primary console is in another room.

Better than I thought but not perfect
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works surprisingly well. With a 100mb/s connection at a hotel, I had very little issue streaming from the cloud (via ps+) and (when it worked) my ps5 at home. Battery life leaves a bit to be desired, but it's not terrible. I had issues with it initiating the connection to my ps5 at times, but this again was at a random hotel. Everything worked fine at home where my connection speed is up to 1gb/s. The black one looks so good too.

Great Product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does what it says, convenient to use PS5 all over the house, controls are great, screen is great. Just buy one already. You won’t regret it.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This PS Portal is easily my favorite gift. With balancing work life, relationships, school, and homelife, it’s given me the convenience to play my games more in the moments that I wouldn’t have before. Most of the time when I’ve found myself having the downtime to play my PS5, it’s been while my fiancé and I are in bed and she’s either aimlessly scrolling her tiktoks or watching her tv shows. We both work full-time and go to school, so of course we want to be in the same space even if we’re doing our own thing to de-compress in our own ways. This has given me the ease of being able to lay up with her and play my games simultaneously, while she rotates like a hot dog in a gas station, switching between the tv and her phone. No more having to get everything set up on the tv or her feeling like she’s not getting attention, because i’m using the tv. In her words, this is a gift to her too since it benefits her so much. Haha, all jokes aside, I highly recommend. Also to add, anyone who claims it’s laggy or has poor connection, needs to get better wifi. I have 500mbps and no issues. Only thing I would say that could make the Portal better would be to have the ability to play any game online with a wifi connection, while away from your console. It’s possible to play from the cloud, but you have to have the highest PlayStation subscription, and even then so, you can only play games that are current in the store for that subscription, which pretty well defeats the purpose for me. Overall though, I give it a 10/10.

Great Pick-Up Experience, Handy for PS5 Owners
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the PlayStation Portal through the Best Buy app—it was quick and easy. The app guided me smoothly through checkout, and I had my device within minutes. Store staff were welcoming, courteous, and ready with my order—big thumbs up to them. ⸻ Why You Might Love It • It feels well-built and comfortable to hold. • Using Remote Play, I could easily play PS5 games away from the TV when it was free. • Thanks to a recent update, I can also stream select PS5 games through the cloud using my PS Plus Premium subscription—no need to turn on my console. ⸻ What You Should Know • It’s entirely reliant on decent internet. At home, it works great. But on slower or public connections, the picture gets fuzzy and gameplay can stutter . • You won’t find any built-in games, apps, or offline play—just PS5 streaming, whether from your own console or Sony’s cloud. • You need a PS5 (or the cloud feature, which also needs a subscription) and solid Wi‑Fi to make the most of it. ⸻ Bottom Line Choose the Portal if you own a PS5, enjoy playing away from the TV, and have reliable internet. It’s well-made, easy to pick up at Best Buy, and now offers cloud streaming too. Just be aware—it’s not a portable gaming console on its own, and it won’t work well without good connectivity. Rating: 3.5/5 — Smart hardware and great service, but internet and ecosystem dependencies hold it back.
